RE: Incredible Osprey Video (short)

They are amazing creatures. The last fish probably weighed as much as the bird.

RE: Our infant world...

I agree with most here that there would be world wide chaos, at least for a while. Most industries would come to a stand still. Commerce, government, and communications would bring the economy to it's knees....at least for a while. I was raised in the '50s and '60s so I know we can do without today's technology but everything now is driven by technology. It would be ugly for sure. I often marvel at the wonderful advancements that have been made in the last 50 years, but in spite of that, I sometimes long for a simpler life.

RE: Do you guys take wood with you to the campsite?

I've got a large stack of oak that was taken a couple of years ago from my son's property about 100 miles from here. I usually take it camping but feel guilty because I know I'm breaking the rules. We never go out of state. Isn't there a way to treat wood to kill insects? I thought about storing logs in large plastic bags and throwing in an insect bomb.

RE: General Motors issue

I understand your frustration, and maybe as a goodwill jester they should make an exception but most car parts warranties have specific time/mileage limitations. You are clearly beyond the warranty. It's a little like trying to catch a 12 o'clock flight at 12:30....it's gone.

RE: NFL Playoffs

Niners beat themselves. Williams #10 needs to be handed his walking papers. Alex Smith made two good plays the whole game. That was it. 0-9 for third down conversions? Seriously Alex? Giants deserved that win
Well put....I agree. Weak 49er offense for sure but I think Williams can take credit for this loss. They scored on both of his blunders.

RE: Have you quit Christmas gifts ?

I think this is a lousy idea. There is so much pleasure giving little kids gifts at Christmas. It's something that they always look forward to and will always remember. However I do think that some people might go overboard with gift giving.

RE: Is 10 MPG Good?

Sounds about right to me. My old 454 Suburban pulling my 27' TT probably is worse than that but I don't even check. When it gets a little low,I just fill it and not worry about it.

RE: Dealer Allowing Test Drives of Sold MH

I'm a sales manager in the retail car business and we sell very expensive European cars. When a special ordered vehicle arrives it is marked as sold and locked up in our storage facility until it is picked up. We don't allow anyone to even sit in it and NEVER allow someone to test drive it. RV dealers should practice the same policy.
Without your permission, this would be very unprofessional and certainly disrespectful. Plus, the dealer is really exposing himself to potential liabilities should anything happen as a result of this careless policy.

RE: Transmission fluid in the gas tank?

From what I remember from my "backyard mechanics days", the gasoline in the carb is leaking down into the cylinder head overnight. An earlier poster suggested a carb kit. I totally agree with that fix. Transmission fluids or other additives will not help. Good Luck..
I agree, ATF in the fuel will not solve the problem. The carburetor is probably leaking down overnight and it takes a lot of cranking for the fuel pump to refill the carb bowl.

RE: How to stay safe at night

Like others have said, be aware of your surroundings and don't stop there if it doesn't look safe. Many of you might oppose this but when I'm on a road trip...I'm armed.

For the money, this looks fine.
I bought one of these and it worked great. I got it at Home Depot. The legs fold up and it has a zippered carrying bag.

He is a beautiful dog. I've had 3 Goldens in past years and loved all of them. They are amazing creatures, possibly the best family dog and companion of all the breeds.

RE: Might need a new rig - deisel this time?

Diesels are attractive for loads that require a 3/4 ton or bigger; however, I'm not convinced that they are less money in the long run. Depends on how much one tows and lots of other factors.
I agree that the overall cost of paying a premium for the diesel and the added cost of fuel might not offer the best savings in the long run, however you do a lot of towing so it still might be better for you. To me the real benefit is the added power and performance of the diesel. I only tow a couple of thousand miles a year and sure wish I had a diesel over my Suburban.

Dead Boliy generator battery

This weekend I took out my Boliy Pro 3600 SEI that I bought last summer and ran it several hours while camping this weekend. It ran great but the electric starter battery was dead (I thought from sitting unused for several months) and wouldn't recharge even after running the generator over 2 hours. Just "clicks". Any suggestions on how to recharge or test this battery? Maybe it's just a bad battery. In the past, just running it for awhile recharged it but not this time.
There used to be a Boliy dealer that offered advise on these generators on this site occasionally....hope he's still around.

RE: The latest internet scam.....LOL.

Play along with him. Give him a bogus business name with the address and phone# of your local police department. You could even tell him that your name is Vance Roberts (Chief of Police in Three Rivers).
