RE: Generator - furnace ECM question

The furnace makes enough noise when it comes on. I sure wouldn't want the generator starting every time. It would probably be hard on the starter, as well. I know you can set it up so the generator will start when the battery needs charging.

RE: reese tow rating 3500lbs

I had the connection between the frame and hitch beefed up so I could tow my F-150. Cost me around $300, but it is really stout now.

RE: Winter camping.

We miss winter camping now that we have moved to Texas. Our Bigfoot handles it well as long as we have plenty of propane.

RE: Braided Dual tire inflators to allow TPMS

Sagecoachdriver,
Unless you are constantly on the road, the tires will die of old age before you wear them out. I don't see much value in rotating the tires. The Borg stems are a quality product and I wouldn't be without them. I have heard too many horror stories related to the braided valve stems.

RE: SHORT QUEEN BED

After wrestling with the issue for a while, we bought a Trav-A-Sak from Camping World. It just lays on top and has sheets inside that are held in place by velcro. It is very comfortable and so easy to make.

RE: Winter trip

We used to make a regular snow camping trip in the Jemez mountains of New Mexico. I always felt we had good traction on the snow covered roads due to the weight of the vehicle. It's definitely the way to go.

RE: Folding tow dolly tongue

I did it on a boat trailer so that I could get it in my garage. The tongue was very heavy duty and installation was not difficult. Routing the wires was the most difficult part of the job.

RE: Towing Question

We had to beef up the trailer hitch to tow our F150. It looked to me like the factory extension would not handle it. Square tubes from the Ford frame to each side of the hitch do the job nicely.

RE: Dish Network Ant for RV'ing advise needed

I bought a used VuQube to replace my old Dish 500 because I was having the problems you describe. Works like a charm. Takes about 2 minutes for the dish to home in on the satellites.

RE: no sales tax for RV purchase?

We all should pay our fair share in taxes. Here in Texas we have no state income tax, but the property taxes on our homes is quite high. It seems no matter where we have lived, the overall tax burden was similar.
That said, registering a vehicle in one state to avoid taxes while you actually live in another is criminal, in my opinion. Picking a state to live in where the tax burden for your situation makes sense if everything else is equal.

RE: generator

You sure could, but I don't think I would want to run the generator and use that gas just for the purpose of watching a DVD. You could get an inverter to power the TV and DVD player from the batteries or get a portable player.

RE: Winegard Carryout 1518 OR VuCube2000?

I found a used VuQube a couple of months ago and find it very easy to use as long as you have a clear view of the southern sky. There are no dip switches to set, just follow the directions. It comes with the AC adapter so you just plug it in and go. Switches between my two dish satellites seamlessly.

RE: Beefing Up Chassis on Jayco 31

I went to a local hitch shop and had them reinforce my hitch with 2 pieces of square tubing that run from the original ford frame to each side of the hitch. Have towed my 4900 lb F-150 with no problem.

RE: Inefficient A/C

Is your AC ducted or does the cold air just come out at the bottom of the unit? Ours will freeze up when it has to work very hard unless I have the chill grill open, which allows the air to come out the bottom of the unit. I suspect there is a restriction inside the ducts. Once it starts to run intermittently (in the evening), I shut the grill which forces the cool air through the ducts.
