RE: Indian Creek RV Resort - Fort Myers

I happen to be in NFM now and am considering moving to the area. There are 100s of parks in the FM/CC/NFM area with a wide range of lot rental fees or you can go the co-op route and own the lot. Take your time looking, there are some great deals on used units out there. For the $60K+ Indian Creek wants for a small new unit you can get really nice 1500 sq. ft. double wides in other parks that are just as nice and have money left over.

RE: Good AGM batteries to start off with?

Optima Batteries or get the Sears Platinum, same exact battery at 2/3 the cost.

RE: getting newer truck. GM LBZ or LMM?

The thing you can get with a tuner is the turbo brake. Since the LBZ and early LMMs do not have an exhaust brake, this will work for one. Many consider EFI Live and Idaho Rob tunes as the best. http://www.duramaxforum.com/forum/

RE: Large solar panel???

What about the 3% or so cabling losses? That would put the voltage at 13.53v. How do we bulk charge at 13.95v much less 13.53v?Come on, at least do the math right! 18V * (1 - 0.005 * (70-25)) = 13.95V The PWM system is still looking good! It certainly not going to be much of a difference. In fact, the pwm system is using almost all power available from the panel. The system is operating at maximum efficiency. Hi all, "The listed power of a solar cell is the power measured under ideal laboratory conditions, which prescribe a temperature of 25 °C (77 °F). However, on a typical hot summer day, it is not uncommon for a solar cell to reach a temperature of 70 °C (158 °F). A general rule of thumb is that the efficiency of a solar cell decreases with 0.5% for every 1 °C (1.8 °F) above 25 °C (77 °F). This means that on a hot summer day, the efficiency of a solar cell could drop as much as 25%." From: Solarpower2day A rise in temperature may reduce Vmp to: Panel A: Vmp = 18V * 75% = 13.5 V Panel B: Vmp = 36V * 75% = 27 V I submit that the higher voltage panel is more likely to do a lot more charging than the 18 volt.

RE: ONLY One Construction Delay on I-75

I took the east loop with no problems. Guess I got lucky.

RE: Upgrade for 2011 3500HD In Dash Navigation

Get a portable unit. In dash hardware is too expensive and costs too much to update. Got a Garmin for less then $200 with lifetime traffic and map updates. GM wants $300 for an updated DVD.

RE: Contaminated diesel ?

The GM fuel filter has a water separator. It also has a WIF (water in filter) sensor in it. If too much water is in the filter you will get a warning on your dash information display.

RE: ONLY One Construction Delay on I-75

Just drove that way today but took the 275 bypass. Garmin was throwing me 30 min. delays on I75 so I went around it. Bypass was an easy drive. Only problems from MI were some slowdowns in Dayton. Currently in Georgetown KY KY DOT says work to be done Dec. 1.

RE: Debit Card and ATM Fees at Bank of America

While I think Credit Unions are great for many people and I have no love for BoA but there are advantages to large banks. I found out Monday that my CC number was compromised. BoA instantly noticed the fraudulent charges, flagged the account and emailed/texted me. I went on line, looked at the charges and noted them as fraudulent. They deactivated that card, declined the charges and I will have a new CC today. I just wonder if a Credit Union would have noticed the fraudulent charges so quickly and been able to react with a new card as fast? If it would have happened 3 days later I would have left for my winter trip down south. In that case they could have reissued the CC at any BoA branch, how would a CU handle that if you are on the road?

RE: Just curious...why would they do this???

I know, I know, we are supposed to ignore such things, but I have to ask; "the 2 DP's on either side of me are running their ginnys" What's a "ginny"?Shhhhh... don't tell anyone, they are bootleggers!

RE: lippert frames.

Do these manufacturers not spec the frames that Lippert builds for them? I know that Crossroads specs the frames from Lippert. I had what I considered too much pin box movement. It is on a coach that was using a new style of frame. When I took it back for them to look at it I seen the blueprints from Crossroads and the Lippert rep commented that the frame rail boxes had thicker walls (4 gauge) then is normally used. They made a few modifications to the frame and added extra gussets and welds. A month later I did a plant tour of Crossroads and the changes they did to mine were already incorporated into the new frames being used. Also, the spring shackles on my coach are not the normal strips of metal that we see have seen breakage on but are thick plates that are welded to the frame.

RE: MPPT Solar Controllers

A single high wattage high voltage panel is normally less expensive then two 17v panels of the same wattage. This cost difference can easily cover the cost of the MTTP controller.

RE: Information Discussion for Gate Guards

I'm not a gate guard but have seen such things in contract work as I worked a bit for a builder that used contractors. It's not like you are an employee and being fired. You will just be told your services are no longer needed.

RE: MPPT Solar Controllers

If the FETS were in parallel wouldn't that lower the losses? In some motor controllers I've worked with if they need higher current carrying capacity they add a FET daughter board parellel with the MB FETS that basically doubles the current capacity and halves the resistance. Always thought it would be fun to get a small motor controller and hookup a microprocessor to it to control the charge. Wouldn't be cheap, maybe $150 max, but you could program in the exact charge control that you want to use.

RE: Dish System Set Up

Disconnect the dish from the receiver. Run a check switch and then then save that information when it finds no sats. This clears any information stored in the receiver. Connect the dish and rerun the check switch again. If I switch from WA to EA I have to do this on my 211K receiver. We used to have to do this too when we used a receiver from the house - different parameters there. Now we have a dedicated receiver for the 5er, so no more issues.I do too but sometimes the trees force me to switch arcs.

RE: 99 gallon aux diesel tank for my truck

4 x a day at 300 miles per tank is 1200 miles. At an average of 50MPH that is 24 hours of drive time. Glad I only drive 300 miles per day :)

I'd like to know how this great bargain generator will work charging my very expensive trojan batteries, lolVery well as long as your converter/charger is 60 amps or less.

RE: if in Arizona or Nevada do I need to winterize

I was in Phoenix last winter and we had a few nights in the low 20s and snow. My outside hose froze but didn't break. But there was a lot of damage to homes in the area. Two years ago in the RGV and again a few nights of temps in the low 20s. Frozen hose but no damage. Almost any place can have freak weather.
