RE: Beaver Model Compaisons

The Marquis and Patriots normally had 500-525hp engines, the Contessa's had 400-425HP. Most, but not all, had Cats. (I have a 2007 Contessa with a 400hp Cummins ISL). The Roadmaster chassis gives a great ride.

RE: AAA Road Service in AK?

Lots of us had AAA or AARP road service UNTIL we had to call them for RV service. Now we all have either Good Sam or Coachnet.

RE: Backflow preventer with black tank flush

I put a bronze "90" on my black tank inlet, with a simple shutoff valve attached. I leave them attached all the time, and turn the valve off after flushing. I obviously only hook the green hose up when flushing the tank. As stated earlier, the shutoff allows me to control the flow of H2) at the tank and not the faucet while flushing the tank. The "90" lets everything clear the bay door.

RE: Question about awning

That's actually a very nice piece of Redneck engineering. The only problem is that they left the bolt too long on the top end. It probably only needs to be about 1/4 to 1/2 inch above the captive nut when tight to have enough threads to loosen it and let the awning unroll. SAR Tracker is correct, the loop is where you put the "L" rod to tighten or loosen the clamp.

RE: Just Priced New Tires ! OUCH!

I just priced Goodyear 295/80x22.5's. I need to replace all 8 on my coach. The price per tire was $814 before tax. The dealer price for Michelins, (from my brother-in-law, who is a Michelin dealer), was $659/tire before tax. The out-the-door price for 8 Goodyears was $7300.00. I bought my Michelins thru the Monaco International Program for a much better price and am waiting for them to get delivered and installed. Prices for tires are going up lots faster than infaltion rates because of the price of oil. 295's are about $50/tire more than 275's.

AdventureTrek Tour

Has anyone on this forum taken on of the South/Central American tours? I am seriously considering one in 2013 and am trying to find ammunition to convince the DW that it would be: 1. safe; 2 fun: and 3 safe. I know we wouold have to buy a smaller rig for the trip, but it seems like it would be worth the effort.

RE: side cameras

I have them on my coach and seldom use them. The picture is often hard to see because of glare, and is somewhat distorted. I find the smaller concave (wide angle) mirrors much more useful for removing "blind-spots"

RE: Noise from air compressor

You definately have a leak in the air leveling system. I had the same problem on my Contessa and it took several tries to locate all of the little leaks. Use a spray bottle of soapy water and spray each fitting until you find the bubbles. The fittings are probably a type of press fit where the plastic hose just slides into the fitting. I found that I could usually remove the hose by pushing in on the outer ring of the fitting, trim the hose a little and re-inset. One common place for leaks is around the pressure switch on the pressure side of the compressor. Not a fun job!

RE: Almost tire time

the 305/70 R 22.5 is 39.1" in diameter and 12.3 inches wide. The 295/80/22.5 is 41.3 x 11.8. Load ranges should be the same. I am shopping for new tires right now. Be prepared for a shock. For 8 Goodyear 295/80 22.5's the bottom line is $7300.00.
Sully, the load rating is 7800# single.

RE: Besides the cost of the MH, it is going to cost me....

A lot depends on how much work you can DIY. I just set up a new toad (Saturn Vue). the baseplate and wiring loom cost me about $ 400. I already had the Blue OX. I estimate the brake system will cost about $500. I will need to replace all 8 tires next summer, and that will be at least $3500. I change my own oil and filters for about $150 per year. But you will have unexpected repairs, for instance, my washer just died and a new one cost me $700. I would budget $1000/year for repairs and replacements.

RE: best route to fortwilderness

Coming down I-95, there is a nice campground at exit 33 in SC, Point South, another KOA, at exit 84 in GA, Richmond Hill, The one in SC is about 6 hours from Disney, the one in GA is about 5 hours out. I would continue on I-95 to I-4 and Disney. If you take the I-10, 301 route, get on the Turnpike (toll) to Orlando. I don't recommend that route because of tolls and traffic.

RE: Cummins Coolant Issue and Question

I would take it directly to a Cummins repair facility and have them check it out. Based on losing one "freeze" plug, I would probably have the remaining plugs replaced, flush and refill with approved coolant and change the filter, if so equipped. It's very unusual for a freeze plug to fail, there must be some reason and that might have weakened the others also.

RE: Sleep number mattress improvement

I have to newer mdel airbags in the sleep number in our stick house and they work fine. DW's side is on 50 and mine on 80. I don't know which ones we have in the motorcoach, but we don't have any problem with rolling down the hill.
