RE: Camping World of St. Augustine

Gotta add this regarding the St Augustine CW.
In November I bought a 2008 Winnie DP that was on consignment. It had to be one of the worst experiences I've been through buying anything.
Homes, cars, trucks you name it, this was the toughest
The problem was the sales manager some little weird guy named Allan. The way he spoke to his sales staff would lead one to believe he had to be the toughest guy in the world. You'd want to smack him after listening to him for a minute. My sales guy was fantastic and truly put the deal together ande kept it moving in spite of the sales manager.
I understand that the sales manager is no longer employed at the St. Augustine. So, it would seem that things have improved.
I'd look and purchase there again if they had the RV I wanted.

RE: CW and RM7710

After a bunch of reading on this and other forums I decided to purchase a RM7710. After talking with a girl at CW I ordered the unit and a 2 year extended service contract. When the unit arrived no coupon for lifetime updates as was stated in the ad. Also no documentation of a extended service contract. Calling CW service # results in as many different explanations as people you talk to. One person gave me the name and number of the warranty company. I purchased this thing as a package. I don't feel I should be spending a bunch of time chaseing pieces down and I'm not going to.
I've not registeredd this unit or charged the battery as yet. I'm fully prepared to send it back if I can't get what was on my invoice.
Thanks for your time.Ok, what is an RM 7710.....?
A RM 7710 or Rand McNally model 7710 is supposedly the latest and greatest GPS for RV's. It allows you to set height of your RV and a ton of other RV related applications.

RE: Rand Mcnally 7710 GPS

Haulinas,
The units come up to date with the software. Right now they are offering free lifetime updates with the purchase of a 7710. The manufacture has a 1 year warranty on the unit. If you should have any problems on the road you could stop in any Camping World to handle the warranty. Options are available to extend your warranty at the time of purchase. Hope this helps.

How does CW handle warranty claims if the unit fails?

Rand Mcnally 7710 GPS

Do the units that CW is selling have the New updates installed? Also if one were to purchase RM from CW what is the return policy if it fails? Don't want to be in the midst of a 4 month trip and have to deal with the maker should problems arise.

RE: Even Brake Remote Died

I'm on my second replacement. Actually I'm on my third unit counting the original in 2 years. I guess that they feel it is the best way to go as it is hard to diagnose over the phone. They should replace it n/c as there does seem to be a problem with them.

RE: Tire Pressure

Weigh your coach first. Weigh each corner individually. You may have 800+ pounds more on one side of a axle than the other. Anyway go to your tire maker to determine the correct pressure. Use the highest pressure indicated for the two or four on the same axle.
Oh, imo weighing your coach and determining the correct tire pressure is extremely important regarding heat build up, handling tire wear and most importantly stopping ability.

RE: Extended warranty / Service contract??

I don't know anything about Performance Care, but since everyone else appears so ready to tell you what to do, I figure I'll try to suggest a more realistic approach.
If a major breakdown will cause you financial hardship, to the point where to might not be able to fix your rig, you should consider an extended warranty. What could be worse than paying on your RV loan each month, while it sits in your driveway, un-usable? That being said, just be aware that EW's are insuarance policies and nothing makes money for a seller like insurance policies do. You PROBABLY won't recoup you money, but that's no different than with any other insurance policy.
SO, the point is that YOU alone need to make this decision, based on YOUR situation. Read any policy carefully to be 100% sure on what is covered and what is not! THAT is the most critical advice. We decided to buy in when we got our Executive in August. This was our first DP and even though it appears to have been babied for all of it's 8 years, nobody really knows. After the 2 year EW term expires, we will have a much better handle on the coach and whether or not to renew. All we know is that a major engine or tranny failure in this rig could easily run into 5 figures. WE chose to take the insurance.
BTW - We have XTRA-RIDE Platinum coverage.
I agree with you. A insurance policy is like 4 wheel drive, useless until you need it. If I should eat up a turbo and the parts tumble throughout the engine I'd much rather not pay for it out of my pocket.
I'm looking for info on any insurance company that folks have used, Performance Care in particular.

RE: How to prevent toad battery drain

I put a knife switch on my toad battery positive post. When I hook the toad to m/h I just pull knife switch until I want to start toad. I use a wire from the m/h battery to an aux. switch to power the toad brake. Works fine. Simple to install, cheap material cost, easy to install and no dead toad battery to worry about. Materials available at Walmart..
I have a question - if the toad brake is powered by the m/h battery, will the brakes work if the toad breaks away from the motorhome?
I use a Even Brake supplemental brake system. There is a mechanism that mounted to the front of the toad and hooks to the RV by cable that will, when pulled, in case of a break away activate the brakes in the toad.
The wire that is run from the rv to the toad battery will recharge the toad battery as you drive along. The voltage drain is not a lot. Your system is run from the toad battery.

RE: To Align Or Not To Align?

I'm aware of the function of the shocks. As I said "imo", were it me I'd align it. Further if the shocks have been on there to the point that they have worn not blown then are components that have worn as well. The spec's may very well be out.
Perhaps, if, after the op has chewed up his front tires he may be able to make a more informed choice.
I'd still do the alignment, short money insurance imo. But that's just me.

RE: To Align Or Not To Align?

If your shocks are junk and the front end is drooping then new shocks may raise it a bit. If that is the case then a alignment is in order imo.
