How to Decrease Interior Heat - Awnings or Tinted Windows?

I am considering either window awnings or tinted windows to decrease interior heat in the coach. At 39', there is a lot of window space, none of it tinted. For those who have done this, what are the pros and cons of each method? Thanks. GM

RE: Beware in keys

OP may be lucky the park manager didn't sell the coach. Many storage companies stipulate that if rent is not paid in a specified amount of time, the item(s) stored can be sold to recover expenses. Look at the contract. GM

RE: Bone Head Move of the Day

I ain't never ever done nuthin' stoopit like that. Never ever. Well, not since last Wednesday, if you don't count Friday... ...bought our 2000 Southwind in Dec, 2000, had 2300 miles on it. In March, I drove through a gate to our back pasture, turned too quickly and peeled the back like a sardine can. $10,000 damage. Big-time Oopsie! And then there was the time... GM

RE: Honoring Comanche Veterans

Thank you one and all for your most gracious thoughts and congratulatory posts. It was quite an impressive ceremony. I don't know if it is possible to be both proud and humble at the same time - but I was. Lonnie

RE: Honoring Comanche Veterans

"If, begrudging the outlay of ranks, emoluments, and a hundred pieces of gold, a commander does not know the enemy's situation, it is the height of inhumanity. Such a person is no man's commander, no ruler's counselor, and no master of victory." - Sun-Tzu Quoted by Larry Tart, author of "The Price of Vigilance - Attacks on American Surveillance Flights" Larry is a personal friend, with whom I have shared the sky on many occasions. *** In a few hours, I will leaving for the short drive from my home to the Comanche Nation Tribal complex to join three other combat veterans who will be honored by my tribe. I will be joined by my wife and other members of my family. Also there, perhaps not in body, but definitely in spirit, will be hundreds of my fellow airborne Silent Warrior friends, 214 of whom paid the ultimate price in 25 separate peacetime incidents. In some cases, the aircraft was shot down; in others, we still don't know really what happened. I will share this honor with them. I will also share this honor with those on this forum, and with every other soldier, sailor, marine or airman who put on a uniform and swore to protect and defend our country. Whether he (and now, she) served for thirty days or thirty years makes no difference. I will at some point during this honoring ceremony render a hand salute. Many will not realize that my salute is to all of you. "All gave some; some gave all." Lonnie Torralba Henderson, MSgt, USAF ( Ret) Esa Toyah in Comanche Grey Mountain in English

RE: I am thinking about becoming a teacher--looking for opinions

I'll only address one part of this - your statement about not having enough time to be vested. I retired after 27 years, then spent 16 years under the Oklahoma Teacher's Retirement system. State requirements of course vary, but in Oklahoma, there was the "Rule of 80." (Now the rule of 90). That means that when your age and your years in the system reach 80, you are eligible to retire. For me, that magic number hit at age 62. You may also be able to "buy in" to the system based on your military time. Teaching can be very frustrating, but also very rewarding. Good luck and thanks for your service. GM

RE: Entering Canada from N. Dakota at Portal, ND

Final destination is Vancouver Island. We live in Oklahoma, and have meandered NW from here and taken the ferry from Port Angeles a few times, and from Tsawassan a few times, only hitting the corner of BC in Vancouver. This time, we want to go through Saskatchewan, Alberta and more of BC. gm

RE: Crossing into Canada and saving the Vegetables

Agree with other posters who have said to have a minimum quantity of fruits and veggies going either way. I gave a list of all fresh fruits and veggies we had on board last year when returning to the US. Only thing I had a problem with was raw, unpeeled potatoes. Customs agent said if the potatoes had been peeled, there would have been no problem. On another return, I had one apple on board. When told I could not bring it back into the US, I consumed the evidence on the spot. Saw a couple next to me trying to hide a bunch of raspberries or strawberries, don't remember which. Don't think they got caught, but they were very anxious. Had I been a customs official, their demeanor would have probably prompted me to look a little deeper... ...it ain't wurf it, folks. GM

RE: Entering Canada from N. Dakota at Portal, ND

No set-in-concrete route as yet. We'll be coming from the Minot,ND area heading NW into Saskatchewan, probably pick up the TC-Hwy 1 near Moose Jaw and follow it west, raiding outposts and burning wagons along the way. May even smash in some heads at the Buffalo Jump. GM

RE: Route Advice - Annual Comanche Invasion

We've taken the Tsawassan/Duke Point ferry several times on our way to Salmon Point. Under current route plans, we'll be about two hundred miles out on the day before our planned ferry sailing. That's an easy drive to either park and will give us a good night's rest before catching the ferry. Also, there is arguably the world's best Fish and Chips place in White Rock - gotta take care of my British Bride, ya know. GM
