RE: Bed liner and 5th wheel hitch

Get all the holes for the hitch rails cut BEFORE the lining is sprayed in.
That way all those raw cut edges get protected and won't rust as quickly.
(You may need to drill the holes 1/8" bigger for clearance)

RE: Satellite Service?

Dish Network's Pay-As-You service would be another option if you don't want to dump your home cable completely.

RE: Decent Locks?

These are what I use on my ramp door. They are keyed the same and I think if you buy additional, you can also have them keyed the same for a small fee.

RE: Campground within 4 hours or so of San Diego

Another vote for Santee Lakes and Lake Skinner. Both great places. There are also a few Thousand Trails Campgrounds in the area that now allow public. Pio Pico in Jamul, Wilderness Lakes in Murrieta, and Soladad Canyon north of LA. I believe their nightly rates are competitive. You actually have a wide range of choices within a 4 hour window of San Diego. You could make it all the way up to Santa Barbara if you wanted to. Good luck.

RE: Airbags for DRW help eliminate CA highway bouncing??

I have airbags on the truck in my sig. I usually run with 30 - 35 pounds of air and yes, they take a lot of the bounce out hitting some of the smaller dips and holes in our great hiways but man I tell you, it feels like the whole back end of the truck just fell off hitting some of the larger potholes. You pretty much have to find the sweet spot between how much bounce and/or how stiff a ride you want but for me, the airbags do help.

RE: Toy Haulers: I'm tired of tires

Wow. Not the thread I was expecting when I read the title.
I just happen to own a toy hauler but pledge no allegience to any particular forum. I usually hit the newest topics tab and take in whatever is going on in all forums. If I have something relevant to contribute, I will and if not, well then I won't. And if the title of the thread doesn't peak my interest, I skip it all together. I realize the mods don't have the luxury of skipping threads posted in the forums they are moderating so in this case, I think it might be time for a vacation.

RE: How to select a Toy Hauler - Forest River XLR AMP395

Can't anwer all your questions but as other have said, 2500 won't be enough truck for a 43' hauler. Also 43' will be too large for a lot of the state and federal parks but doable in most private. If you buy into TT, look for resale on eBay or consider zone passes. Full memberships directly from them are over priced.

RE: Recommdation of C 23 - 25 foot with 12+ mpg

My sister and her husband just recently picked up a Forest River Solera with the Mercedes Diesel V6. Averaged 15 mpg. on their maiden voyage which included crossing the Cascade Mountains in the Northwest. This is what they tell me anyway.

RE: TV converter question

According to the manufacturers website, it has one coaxial input.

I see a coaxial OUTput, but not an input... What did I miss?
Woops. Read it too fast. My bad. Never heard of a coax out on a TV though ....

RE: Bunk bed rails for young kids

In my prior rig, I went with a piece of 1 x 4 sanded and smoothed, stained to match the rest of the woodwork in the coach, then mounted with 8" L brackets if I remember right screwing down to the deck under the matress. It was sturdy enough that the kids could use it as a grab bar to climb up into the bunk. I think I spent maybe $10 for each bunk.

RE: directv question

You can buy satellite and tripod kits with everything you need on e-bay from $50 to $150 depending on if you want HD or not. To me, trying to take the Sat. off the house isn't worth it.

RE: Surprises discovered during YOUR PDI ????

Our PDI was also positive. Only minor issues found, all fixed on the spot. Nothing ever said about issues found during dealer prep. Two weeks later, got a call saying our parts were in. What parts I ask, I didn't order any parts. The guy said during prep, they found the living room TV was scratched and there a defect in the dinette table so they ordered us new ones. I went back out to the camper to see what he was talking about and sure enough, scratch and defect. Needed a magnifying glass to see them though. Glad they caught cuz I wouldn't have.

RE: Inbedded Modum - How to Find Out?

If it turns out your laptop does not have a modem built in, you can buy an external USB based fax modem at Staples/Office Depot for about $75. Might be able to find on-line for less.

RE: campgrounds need to recycle

For all you "California Bashers", recycling is profitable and is done on a large scale here.
I will beg to differ on this one. I live in San Diego County and we have a similar recycling program with the different bins and we do use them. But, the cost of recycling is built into our monthly fees. If I remember right, there is even a line item for it on the bill. If recycling was so profitble, why aren't our fees going down? In my kneck of the woods, we even had a so called state of the art recylcing center run by the county. After approx. five years of running in the red, they shut it down. Still sits empty today.
For the record, I am all for recycling but also understand it may not be feasible in all situations.

RE: Directv

We have the whole house DVR setup at home and carry part of it with us in the RV.
The setup is as follows:
Antenna (one fixed on the roof at home, another one mounted on a tripod for the RV).
Both antennas have the SWM (single wire multiplexor) with one RG6 coax going to the power inserter (one in the basement at home, also one in the RV basement).
From the power inserter, RG-6 to a splitter (again, one in the basement at home, and one in the RV basement).
From the splitter, one RG-6 cable to each TV location (4 at home, 2 in the RV).
At each TV location, either an HD DVR or an HD receiver (you need at least one DVR to have the whole house/whole RV capability). The RG-6 cable at each DVR/receiver location goes into a special splitter that has an RG6 going into the antenna connection on the back of the DVR or receiver, plus a Cat 5 (internet) cable that connects to the Internet connection on the back of the DVR or receiver (note: the newest DVRs and receivers have the splitter built in internally so only need just the R6 connection).
You can schedule recordings at each DVR, for only that DVR to record. You can replay recorded shows from any DVR at any receiver or DVR. The recorded shows menu integrates all of the recorded shows in one list for replay selection.
I believe that you have to have the SWM setup for the whole house DVR capability.
X2 on this setup. The only thing I will add is that the switches and splitters between the sat. dish and recievers must be SWM approved. Regular one's don't work, at least not for me.

RE: Photo of 2 sewer hoses ( and why I took it )

Go to the Jackson Rancheria in Jackson California. When you pull in, you get assigned your spot, then you pull up to the dump station and THEY have ATTENDANTS that empty your holding tanks BEFORE you go to your spot....Dennis
Last time I was there they also gave me their black tank chemicals to use rather than my own.
It's my understanding that Racheria is on their own septic system. They have you dump first (into city sewer?) to get rid of any chemicals that might contaminate their system and then use their chemicals only while in the park to keep the system contaminate free.
