RE: Cool Mods

I can load the trailer in ways that easily add or subtract about 150 lbs from the tongue weight, which tells you how much beer and other unnecesary *stuff* we carry with us. :B
Beer is never unnecessary! :)

RE: Dexter EZ Flex question

I'm no expert but I don't think they would cause your springs to fail. What's wrong with the springs, is there cracked leafs or?

Here's Joe's pictures, keep in mind these are off a 2012 trailer:

I spoke to a Dexter engineer the other day, he told me the company they get the rubber from changed the compound or something, Dexter didn't know about it till people started having these problems. He told me the newer ones seemed to be better but they're getting some made with a new rubber later this month, he's going to run them through some tests and if they look good he'll send me another new set, I haven't put in the ones they sent me 2 weeks ago yet.

RE: Dexter EZ Flex question

rN, I'll PM you the name of the woman I dealt with after work.
With me the 1st set had problems after a few months of sitting in the yard, the 2nd set I noticed less than a year after putting them on so maybe they're going with the "1 yr warranty" or something?
I think the "Chinese rubber" theory makes sense, pretty sure I saw MADE IN CHINA on them somewhere, will look tonight.
Hmmmm, can't seem to send a PM, WTH?

RE: Dexter EZ Flex question

That's a good idea. I wonder how many people with the chronic failures have heavy trailers? Fred's 5th looks pretty big too.
Our has a GVW of 10,000 pounds, the kit is made for trailers with axles up to 6,000 pounds each so that would be the same kit used for a 4000 pound or a 12,000 pound one trailer, big difference.
I thought it was funny they told me I should be Armor-All'ing them though...

RE: Dexter EZ Flex question

Yes, yours definitely needs to be replaced, overly compressed and full of cracks.
Your tires will be closer together than they should be (still say you shouldn't need a ball joint press to remove a bolt though!) ;)

Really? I took the weight off and tapped the bolt with a hammer & punch.

RE: Dexter EZ Flex question

That's good to hear, my first ones were really compressed and were cracking even before they had 1 mile on them, just sitting in the yard for a couple months.

RE: Dexter EZ Flex question

You don't need any special ball joint press to put them in, I didn't use them, could get by with a couple hydraulic bottle jacks and blocks of wood to support the frame..
Plus, assuming he already has the EZ-Flex system and is just changing out the center equalizers it's really not that big a job.

RE: Dexter EZ Flex question

If you have them and they're cracking and your trailer is still underwarranty you should take it to the dealer IMO.
Takes an afternoon for me to do a pair.

lol
I just hope this is the LAST set I put on... ;)
Will be doing that when I take care of the infamous Lippert frame cracks about the hangers, that's a whole other story...
