RE: Gas Wars

Good point on the Gas Buddy price quotes. I keep a small fire-proof safe in my RV with important papers & $200 to $400 in cash. With today's low interest rates & big difference in gas prices, I save more by paying cash than I would with the money in the bank while traveling.

RE: Gas Wars

Just returned to NYS for the summer. Gas in mid-PA was $3.46. Just before the NYS border, still in PA, it was $3.68. Just over the border it was $3.90.
44 cents/gallon difference in 100 miles. X2 on gas buddy!!

RE: Secret of Grilling Chicken

x3 on Super Dave's response. Ever hear of anyone dying of Trichinosis lately? I think not.
The big problem with under cooked pork & chicken used to be under-refrigeration. With today's technology for preserving meats, it's no longer necessary to cook them so long. A little pink doesn't hurt.

RE: RV Service Tech

Saw one in a CG who was doing a lot of recall work. For instance, at the time, Dometic had a recall on certain year fridges. He was authorized by the manufacturer and went around the CG, offering to do the recall on site. Owner didn't have to go to a dealer, paid nothing & the tech got paid by the mfg.
He towed a trailer emblazoned with "Authorized Mobile RV Mechanic" or something like that & picked up a lot of repair business as well. Of course, some CG's don't allow on site repairs, but he never did engine or transmission work.

RE: Roof ac

No problem with the A/C - problem is it runs on electricity. You'll need to run your generator to power it.
Depending on the size of your rig, the dash a/c should suffice.

Calm down. CG's are in the business of renting campsites, not shafting potential customers.

RE: awning cleaning?

Saw a great idea in the CG I'm currently staying. Guys are using the 1 gal. sprayer tank normally used for week killing or grass fertilizing to wash their vehicles & awnings. Mix whatever you want to use with 1 gal. water, spray it on, brush a bit, rinse it off.
Saves filling a bucket & slopping on the soap with a brush & saves on cleaning stuff since there's little waste. Gotta get me one!

RE: WiFi security

OK, so if wifi providers such as CG's, McD's, Staples, clubs, rest stops, restaurants, hot spots, "ignorant" private citizens, etc. and the folks like me who connect to them are so at risk, why don't I hear about calamities by the millions or thousands or hundreds every day?
Methinks the sky is falling.

You need facts, not opinions. Call the SD MV & get the real answer. Might also want to check with MV in NC.

RE: Oatmeal...

Oatmeal for bkfst 99% of the time. Would rather have bacon & eggs, but would also rather live a bit longer.
I cook 1/4 C oatmeal with about 3/4 C water. When done, add 1 banana, 1 TB each of chopped nuts (walnuts & almonds, mixed) and raisins and finally, about 1/2 TB of honey.

RE: fla. campgrounds

Fl is not a huge state, but has probably more coast line than any other?
So, what part of Fl & gulf or ocean?
P/S - I'm at Jetty Park right now. It is beautiful but it is (IMO) expensive. $47/night FHU, no discounts, no weekly rates.

RE: Bugs

Throw a few match heads in your food every day, you won't even notice. The sulfur comes out through your skin and bugs don't like it. We used this in jungles of the world infested with mucho mosquitoes and malaria. You can also not smell this method, other lotions, repellents, etc... can be smelled by humans.
Be real careful when you bite !! :E

RE: Bugs

I've read for years about the "natural" and chemical repellants for mosquitoes & other insects. Interestingly enough, some swear they work, others totally deny it.
Re. the chemical - use the one with the largest Deet concentration. It works.
Re. the "natural" - btw, don't hand lotions, dryer sheets, citronella, etc. contain chemicals? - I'm convinced that different things MIGHT work for different people.
None of these solutions has ever worked for me, but I'm apparently not that attractive a feast for insects. My sister gets bitten by anything and everything that's smaller than a hummingbird and has wings.
So, bottom line, try whatever you think works for you.

RE: Campground fire ring/grill

Look in camping stores for screens or grill tops that you can put over the grill. I'm currently using a screen which is sold as a "splatter" screen. Won't hold up forever, but it's cheap & will be good for a few uses.

RE: Water pump ON .. water shoots out outside source water inlet

There's a valve just inside your "city inlet". Supposed to be a one-way, but yours is allowing water from the pump to flow out. Remove the inlet & you'll see the check valve. Sometimes you can just push on them & get them to work again. But they're simple & easy to replace.
Re. water coming out when you're hooked to city water, just turn off the pump. No need for it to be on - city connection provides the pressure.

RE: Not using your A/C

As far as driving a vehicle with windows open instead of running the A/C - you're wasting gas. Wind resistance drags down the mpg more than running the A/C at speeds over 45.
