RE: Sanitizing fresh water system in the 5er

Sounds good to me. I use 3/4 cup bleach but all else the same as you do.

RE: Scoop on internet access? Newbie welcomes advice!

Also search this Forum for `internet access' to read what has already been posted. A deal breaker?

RE: Sea eagle boats

For previous responses search this Forum for `Sea Eagle' but also consider Porta Bote which are much more rugged and easier to row.

RE: Pexi Glass for Rv Screen Door

I'm pretty sure ours is 3/16 inch thick plexiglas from a big box store. I cut it with a jig saw on slow speed. Fast speed will cause the material to melt. Same for drilling holes; slow speed. Some attach the material with velcro; I used round head screws with nylon washers.

RE: No hot water

Now figure out how to run on both propane and electric just not at the same time! Electric is cheaper if you are plugged in.

RE: Cross-Country Trip - What do I need to know?

Carry a copy of The Next Exit or Exit Now for information on what is available at the interstate intersections (fuel, food, etc) and where are the Rest Areas. You might also want to purchase a GPS. Search this Forum for GPS for more info.

RE: No hot water

Does only cold water come out of the faucets or no water at all? Have you tried the electric option to heat the water?

RE: front trailer hitch

I had a receiver fabricated by a qualified welding shop and I told them it had to withstand 800 lbs. thinking I would occasionally use it to spot the trailer which I have never done. We do, however, carry two adult bicycles on a rack installed in this receiver which probably total less than 70 lbs. not counting the inertia when hitting the occasional bump in the highway. So, a 400 lb. bike should be OK IF the receiver is as good as the one I had made. BTW it is bolted to the frame of the Suburban; not welded. On the other hand 400 lbs. is a bunch!

RE: Going to Chicago Cubs game

You can search this Forum in the RV Parks section for `Chicago' and be disappointed. I usually recommend Hollywood Casino, formerly Empress Casino off I-80 east of I-55.

RE: Sliding doors falling off

Yes I had this problem and solved it in a couple of ways. First you have to remove the door(s) to get to the track. 2. try to add more screws along the tracks entire length. Reach as far back as you can. Drywall screws and and a cordless drill make it easier, and, 3. travel with the doors closed so the weight is hanging on the screws you can add more easily, ie. in the opening.

RE: Maine or Michigan

I'd suggest doing a Google search for `______ tourism' and putting in the state of interest instead of the blank. Judge from the experts in their state. If you drive to Michigan you go right by Cedar Point the roller coaster capital of the world. BTW why go to either when there is so much to see/experience closer to your home?

RE: leveling...1 or 2 tires?

We usually level both tires unless circumstances are such that raising one of the tires an inch more than the other better levels the RV. I don't like the lego's because they are more difficult to drive onto and have the entire footprint of the tire supported.

RE: Assist handles for entering/exiting shower?

Off the top: I have installed many of these grab bars for seniors (but never in an RV) and prefer the 18 inch stainless with knurled surface. The plain surface can get slippery. I would install it on the inside of the little partition shown in the photo because if there is one on the outside you will be forever hitting it when using the sink. There should be no interference with the shower curtain but I don't understand what is the fold in/out rod? You could use stainless steel bolts with washers on the outside of the wall and sst locknuts on the inside. If you choose the length of the bolts properly the bolt threads will just extend to the outside of the nuts and not beyond. You could probably get away with two bolts; one at each end. Caulk around the mounting flanges but leave a little gap at the bottom for water to drain out should it somehow get behind the flange. What you will see on the outside are two bolt heads and washers. For an even better appearance you could use stove bolts with a smooth head but then have to figure out how to tighten the nuts.

RE: Downside to quieting the water pump

This is why we rarely hook up to the campground water system but prefer to fill the FW tank. Ours isn't as quiet as yours but is tolerable.

RE: Towel Bars

If you use dry wall anchors like E-Z Ancor (the kind that screw into the wall and the holding screw goes into it) sometimes the wall is so thin the anchor wants to back out or go right thru. The first time you screw in the anchor try some sealant or glue on the threads and let it dry before installing the fixture.

RE: Perspective RV'er needing opinions

Two suggestions: First go to www.rv.org for The RV Consumer Group's review of any RV's you are looking to buy and go to www.rvknowhow.com to read the Kieva's suggestions on how to decide on an RV for its livability.
