RE: time for a new Ford truck, i need help with axle ratios

I would expect the cost of a rebuilt transmission to be close to the cost for the sales tax you will pay on a new truck. With 100k on the engine you should be able to go for at least another 100k miles. If you are not unhappy with the performance of the truck you have then stay with it.
I would do a lot of research to find an independent transmission shop with a solid reputation (cartalk.com or yelp.com are good places to start) to do the work.
The GM Allison transmissions have an external filter that is changed every 25k miles which seems like a good idea for all auto transmissions that are going to experience hard use.
X2
I personally love not having payments....

RE: School me on difference between Rancho's and Bilstein Shocks

I did consider that, but a $100.00 rebate is too good to pass up...

RE: School me on difference between Rancho's and Bilstein Shocks

Thanks for all who replied. I think for ME and my current setup I will go with the Rancho's. There is a nice Rebate until June 30 on the purchase and my truck will only be used for the Lance so ride concerns empty is not a problem.

Wow, alot of info , I appreciate all your experiences. Its still a coin flip. Who will be the one to break the tie?

School me on difference between Rancho's and Bilstein Shocks

Hello All,
I am new to the TC Forum but have been along time class A owner. We just recently purchased a 2010 Lance 850. Nice change from a 33 ft Fleetwood. looking to upgrade my Chevy Truck. Its a mint condition 83 with the camper special package. Glove box sticker says its rated for 3231Lbs.
I have search and read may articles about shocks, still want to hear first hand stories of what you use and why. If you dislike a particular shock please let me know why. remember this will be one of many upgrades but I feel its critical being a single wheel truck.

RE: cleaning holding tanks -how do youi

Here is a good tip an "Old RV" guy told me . before your trip to the dumping place, Drop a 10LB(or more)bag of ice down the Toilet. As you drive and the ice is melting, the hard cubes help breakup most deposits. buy the time you start dumping all the ice is melted.
It DOES work, Trust me ....

RE: 454 still getting hot now what?

What NO one is telling you is you are overheating because of a restriction in the exhaust system. This wil cause ALL of your symtom's including the no power. It's ususally the Muffler , but it can be the catalytic convertor.
Try removing the muffler and then road test. If cured you found your problem. If that doesnt work you will need to separate the exaust further up toward the engine. The convertor looks like a flat muffler and is located right off the y-pipe near the engine.
Let me know how you make out... Good luck
PS: forget about the TBI not flowing enough fuel , I have a 1994 Southwind with the same engine is you and it pulls an enclosed trailer up and down hills all day long. Does not overheat and has good power. Fix you exhaust problem before going crazy on a fuel problem.
