RE: RV length and finding a campsite

I don't do the Cal. thing and I have never had a issue with length. I do no boon docking and use very few State parks.. We were 57' in length when towing with the Freightliner M2, we have since downsize it a Chevy 3500HD DRW's and don't know the exact length. Again I have never had a issue with length... Happy Trails....

RE: Truck puller w/4 wheel drive or 2 wheel drive

Makes very little difference in towing unless your off a hard surface.. I have owned many 4X4's and have only used the 4X4 option twice. The 4X4 option cost more to buy and operate, additional weight will cost more for fuel. Tire wear is another issue... However the resale is much better for 4X4 trucks. I do no boondocking and never go off roading in a Truck that can cost well over $50,000 dollars or more... Its a common sense issue... Its also very hard to find a 2 wheel drive Truck on a dealership lot. Most dealership orders Trucks fully loaded, (more money). In most cases you will have to order.. If you live in Snow country, its a good reason to buy a 4X4 but I don't like cold weather and go South for the winters... Its kinda a macho thing to own a 4X4. The big 3 have some awesome Trucks with the 4X4 option. But again you will have to make that decision based on you likes and dislikes and were your travels will take you.. When I ordered my 2012 Chevy 3500 kinda wish I had went with the 2x2 instead of the 4X4. I have owned a Chevy 4500 and the Freightliner M2 and neither had the 4X4 option and I went any place I wanted to go... Good Luck with your decision... Happy Trails.... P.S. The money saved by not going with a 4X4 option will pay for several tows if needed.... Keep in mind also most all HD Trucks have a limited slip differential and in many cases its all you need to keep moving...

RE: got the truck, picked the 5'ver, now..... the hitch

The best hitch for all heavy 5th wheels is the Trailer Saver, no doubt. However the best static hitch is the B&W turnover ball with the Companion 5th wheels hitch... However the capacity of the Companion is 18,000 lbs. You will have a clean Truck bed in 15 minutes or less and no pucks to deal with the B&W is the best static hitch I have owned. I have owned several other brands, such as Reese, Valley Huskey etc. So I do have hands on experience. I have owned 3 Trailer Savers and can assure you the TS is the best air ride hitch and takes the stress off the 5th wheel frame and also absorbs the shock from concrete dividers etc... Good Luck with you r choice... Happy Trails.....

RE: Fifth wheel hitched to truck

If you have a heavy pin weight like mine (4,200) you might consider put a bottle jack under the the rear hitch to support the weight and take weight off the rear springs. Also I would for sure unhook the IV cable to prevent it from drawing down the Trucks battery. Happy Trails....

RE: Travel trailer loan rates

It depends on your credit rating, if its above 800 you will get a good rate. Ours on the 2010 Mobile Suites 3.74%. The 2012 Chevy 3500HD DRW's 3.74%. Happy Trails.... P.S. There is plenty of Money cheap..... I normally pay cash for my Trucks.. However money is very cheap....

RE: Interesting About Ford

Fact is Ford borrowed money prior to the down turn. And GM and Chysler didn't.

RE: B&W companion ?

I have owned the B&W turnover ball with the Companion and was the best steel hitch I have owned... I also have owned a Reese, Valley/Huskey etc. The B&W by far was the best. Do to the weight of my Mobile Suites I had to go back to a Trailer Saver Air ride 5th wheel hitch.. The B&W as a Gooseneck has a capacity of 30,000 lbs but as a 5h wheel its rating was 18,000. I had to have the extra capacity so I actually called the B&W factory and ask if there was anything they could do at the time to increase the capacity to handle the Mobile Suites and was told not at this time.. I highly recommend the B&W system if it handles your capacity... Good Luck with your choice.. Happy Trails...

RE: Does This Trailer Exist?

OP, if you get enough Truck and want to step up call Kyle Miller at Drv and tell him what you want and it will happen.. But you will have to have a Truck to handle the weight.. We don't have a booth type dinette, however we did have 17 mods ask for and was done by Drv when we ordered our 2010. Out 5th wheel only sleeps two the kids are all grown up. We also have two fireplaces 1 in the living area and 1 in the bedroom. Drv is one of the few who will do major changes, but you have to ask before you can get what you want. Drv will do as much as possible to make you happy... Happy Trails....

RE: How will they get home?

Well some of us have returned, this past Thursday we returned after our 5 months in Florida. We will probably not go West (Colorado) this summer, have been West the last 7 years, but due to cost of fuel... However its possible no one will travel this next winter. Depends on what happens, and we all know what is happening now. Scar times in America..... Happy Trails.... P.S. Very sad for those who are just beginning to travel away from the Cold in the winters in the North....

RE: Will you RV with $8 a gallon gas?

For the record in 2008 President Bush was hit with $147.00 + a barrel for oil... in less than 3 months the cost of a barrel was $60.00 dollars a barrel. What did he do? He open permits to drill in many areas. Drilling in the USA on federal lands are at a very low point. The only State North Dakota is producing most of the oil because its on private land. Just yesterday the number of barrels in just North Dakota, went into the trillions.... America has the largest Oil reserves in the World... But you have to drill for oil, and stop buying from Arab countries... There is a lot of things the President can do but you have to want to. Also gas was a $1.86 a gallon in Jan 2009 when the new President took office... today its $3.79. This oil cost will destroy a very bad economy... America runs on oil. Fill up the Chevy 3500HD today, cost $258.00 at $4.09 a gal.. and it wasn't empty... 80 gal capacity. The most I have every paid for Diesel for a Chevy 3500HD. Yes we have canceled our trip to Colorado and surrounding area first time in 8 years.... And didn't reserve our site for the winter of 2012 in Florida. We left Florida today after 5 months. Florida will hurt next winter if fuel keeps going up... Its unbelievable how many snow birds in Florida each winter..... Happy Trails.....

RE: Will you RV with $8 a gallon gas?

Big Oil Companies don't set Oil prices. Oil is a Commodity and is sold on the World market... The US Government makes the most profit off oil. Happy Trails....

RE: Walmart and Big Rigs

Every Wal-Mart has a Truck route... In high winds I always look for Big Trucks and hope they are loaded heavy. I have parked in between Big Trucks several times. Normally I look for a Truck Stop... High winds are very dangerous to high profile vehicles... Happy Trails... P.S. To many run away shopping carts in Wal-Mart parking lots....

RE: Will you RV with $8 a gallon gas?

I really don't have a clue as to how much RVing we will do at $8.00 a gallon. It really want matter about the $8.00 a gal. It will be the cost of every associated with Oil and many don't understand almost everything made or grown by man there is Oil involved... Really not sure what we will do at $4.00 + dollars a gal. The extra cost of fuel hasn't gotten down the chain yet. In less than a month we will begin to see what the hight cost of energy will cost, surcharge on fuel by trucking companies.... As for fuel mileage, it want improve as long as the Government is involved in telling the Truck builders what they have to put on the engine. Without the junk emisions systems the fuel mileage would increase.. All Diesel engines are being choke down by the emissions. With the technology we have the fuel mileage could be increased.... But the EPA has know idea in building engines...... I doubt a dozen people in the EPA has ever driven a Diesel powered Truck..... Oil cost will cripple America even more. Happy Trails.... Again how can anyone say what they will do.... at $8.00 a gal... My Truck only holds 80 gals.... cost $640.00 at $8.00 and thats not counting what the cost of food, clothing etc... and everything else involving the use of Oil ....

RE: Fifthwheel converter for gooseneck

I have owed several steel 5th wheel hitches. Without a doubt the B&W turn over ball with the Companion 5th wheel hitch is the best steel 5th wheel hitch I have owned... The other 5th wheel hitches were Valley/Huskey, and Reese. I prefer the Trailer Saver over a steel hitch. But thats my choice, and my Mobile Suites loves the Air ride... Good Luck with your choice.... Happy Trails.. P.S. Over the years I have seen many Gooseneck adapters being used under all types of 5th wheels, to include the Mobile Suites...

RE: Dually or Single Rear Wheel for towing

Pin weight is the key between what truck you will need. If you have a light weight RV you can use a light weight Truck.. Its a choice do you want to stay inside your weight ratings or be over weight ??? Its a choice.. I have been Blessed to have owned both light Trucks and heavy Trucks. I just down sized from a Freighliner M2 and had no issues with parking, except parking garages. But in most cases there is a oversize parking area.. I admit the turning radius was much better with the Freightliner vs Chevy 3500HD DRW's. I haven't had any issues with parking any DRW Truck I have owned. Our Mobile Suites is just to much trailer for anything less than a DRW's Truck... There is much more comfort pulling the Suites with a DRW Truck. Common sense will tell anyone the answer to heavy 5th wheel is a DRW Truck.. And yes I know people are towing with SRW's every day. And if you do the research you will find most towing heavy 5th wheels with SRW's are over on pin weight or over gross. Again its a decision... I do believe "You can have to much Trailer but never two much Truck... I hope your decision is correct and your happy with your decision... Happy Trails... P.S. I have owned a 2011 and now the 2012 Chevy 3500 DRW's and can say the 2011's and newer ride the best of any prior GM 3500's I have owned.... I owned a 2005, 2007, 2008 all GM 3500HD with DRW's.... Great Truck....

RE: Will you RV with $8 a gallon gas?

Fact is no one can say for sure what they will be doing or going at $8.00 a gal. That means everything consumed by us will also be at a much higher price.. People realize everything used has something to do with Oil. Nothing made hasn't had something to do with Oil. Thats why we must go after America's Oil. Green energy is a fluke.. Sane people know America runs on Oil. America has more Oil than any Country... But then again people's decisions by those who make these decision no one actually know what will happen.... Happy Trails...

RE: lippert level up system

Our Lippert level up system 6 hydraulic jacks on our Mobile Suiters 18,500 lb and the Lippert can and will raise all 4 wheels and tires off the ground.. Have used it several times over the years to remove tires and rotate. I highly recommend the Lippert system.... Happy Trails....
