RE: Texas Folks need your suggestions

Thanks everyone. We have made reservations for Denton - Destiny RV campground. I will let you know how it is. Thanks for all the suggestions for Palo Duro, Caprock, Lawton, etc. We have been to all of them several times and love them. We have been to most places in Oklahoma also. Jan. we were at Roman Nose it rained but we had a nice time. Red Rock is one of our favorites. We decided to head to TX this time and do city stuff for a change. End of June we are headed east of OK city some place to camp for a few days. With hubby still working we have to take advantage of weekend trips. While we are in TX we are going to check out a few of the places mentioned for next time. Thanks again for all your suggestions. Deb

Texas Folks need your suggestions

Live in Altus,OK SW corner of OK. we like camping at Lewisville Lake Campground. It's only easy 3 hrs from Altus. We are looking for a campground like Lewisville Lake for Memorial Weekend arriving on Fri-Monday. Lewisville is booked. We enjoy all the things to do in the area. Can you suggest a place that is around 3-6 hrs away. We don't have children and now travel with a small dog. Don't have a boat. Lewisville we usually enjoy the restaurants and we have done some site seeing in Dallas area. We are open for suggestions. We have been spoiled by Lewisville (Hickory Creek campground).

RE: What are States known for?

Southern Living Magazine highlights the different states and food specialities. I usually look to see where we are headed and read up on restaurants and areas. You can stock the rv with basics then if your by the shore buy fish from the local fish market. Oklahoma you will see a lot of chicken fried steak and BBQ places. The southern states lots of great cajun, New Mexico great mexican foods not your tipical taco bell mexican food. We like to eat at the local restaurants not the usual chains. Debbie

RE: Eastern Texas

Thanks for all the suggestions, lots to choose from. We decided to try Lewisville Lake Hickory Creek campground. It was only a 3 1/2 hour nice drive. We had a nice view of the lake with no close neighbors, quiet. We had beautiful weather all weekend. We went to Frisco on Thursday. Visited the Ikea Store and ate at In and Out my favorite from where I grew up in CA. On Friday I took my husband to where Kennedy was killed and the book depository. We also visited the Farmers market downtown Dallas and bought some fruit and veggies. Sat. we went to the Traders Village in Ft. Worth. I would pass on it not what I thought it was going to be. We ate out at a couple more great restaurants in Lewisville. Arrived home on Sunday in the early afternoon. Perfect for a few days off. We checked some of the other campgrounds and they seemed more for snowbirds, prices were in the $35,$45 and up. more then we wanted to pay for what we were doing. Lewisville Lake campground the people were very friendly and helpful if you needed to know where a place was. The park was very clean with lots of trees and a beautiful lake, close buy for things to do, our campsite was $18.

RE: Eastern Texas

About an hour NORTH of Dallas is Lake Murray (just south of Ardmore Oklahoma). turner Falls area is about 15 minutes away from Lake Murray and there are LOTS of great campsites at Elephant Rock campground or several other campgrounds on the lake. Drive through animal preserve just a few minutes away also. Golf at Lake Murray State Park along with Livery stables, marina with rentals etc. Thanks we stayed at Elephant Rock over Columbus Day Weekend. Beautiful lake and we had a nice site. Wish we knew about the animal preserve. We had a nice time. We checked out the area and went to Gainsville and had a nice lunch at the German restaurant in Munster,TX. We just haven't been on the eastern side of Texas thought we would check it out. Thanks Deb

Eastern Texas

We have four days off for Veterans Day. Looking for an area to visit. We live in SW OK. Dallas is about 3 1/2 hrs. We were considering Northeast TX. We have been around Gainsville area. We were thinking more east of Dallas. We aren't familar with the eastern side of the state. We will be leaving on Wed. around 1:00, and will drive about 4 hrs. and over nite it if we have to. Then can drive in on Thursday. Sunday we can drive 8 hrs. home if we have to. Our second option we were thinking about was heading to Ft. Worth area and the Ft. Worth Swap meet. Wasn't sure if that was anything to go to. Or things to do there. It's just the two of us no kids or animals. We have a 33 ft. Fifth. Thanks Deb

RE: Ribs - Bake at home, freeze, thaw and grill at camp?

Thank you for the help! Will freezing the cooked ribs and then thawing them affect taste or texture? On the 4th of July we slow cooked ribs in the oven then put them on the BBQ. We had lots of leftovers so we froze them. On the 5th I broke my leg so I want dinner to be easy. Today we pulled out the ribs let them thaw in the refrigerator. Then we put them in the microwave for a few minutes and half way then we spread BBQ sauce on them and heated them the rest of the way. They tasted just like we took them off the grill. With the temps at 108 even Barbecuing is hot. You could even heat then up on the grill if you are camping. We do it all the time. Deb

RE: Easy Fruit Salad

This sounds great. I just went to a baby shower and the girl used a bag of frozen fruit, and added a can of peach pie filling, plus bananas. I usually don't like the taste of just frozen fruit, but the peach filling made it taste like it was fresh. Never would have thought to use pie filling. I have another friend who uses peach pie filling when she makes baked beans. I also grew up in Southern Calif. with fresh fruit grown all around me. Free avocado's now I pay $1.23 ea for them. Oranges .99 ea. Those days are gone. Now I live in a little town in OK. and we are in a drought this year where produce is taking a big hard hit. Most of our produce is from Mexico at our little market not local farmers. Camping we always have canned fruit stocked in RV. Then we usually buy at a road side stand where we are camping. Thanks again for this easy recipe. Making it tonight.
