RE: Can you bear to part with your "man toys"?

Hey, guys. Tools aren't exclusively man toys. A lot of us women have and love them. Giving up some of them when I start fulltiming is going to be like giving up children.
I agree - my 12" Sears bandsaw has been with me through thick and thin!! It's probably 35 yrs old...... the Ryobi radial arm saw is only slightly newer.
Judging by the ever-growing pile of tires in the corner of our garage - I think Hubby can't part with them if there's a shred of rubber left??

RE: What is your favorite pass in Colorado?

I like Trail Ridge Rd in Rocky Mtn Nat'l Park - it's BEST when accessed by Fall River trail (certainly NOT RV-friendly!!)

RE: Teenager At Home and RVing

We've raised 6 boys. Camping becomes a challenge for families as the kids get older. As I always told my kids the Bill of Rights did not extend to our address, it was a dictatorship! LOL
Seriously our rule was unless you were gainfully employed that required you worked on a weekend you came with us no if's ands or buts.
The world is a much different place unfortunately and there are too many nuts out there and the worry of what could happen at night would keep me awake. No matter how mature your daughter is and I believe you know your girl, the things that can go wrong are just too many and the society we live in means if her friends are with her and something does you will be responsible for that also and probably sued.
As the boys grew older and work became a priority they had 2 choices, grandma or the other parents house (we are a blended family).
Good luck whatever you decide. As others have said and like my own kids have told me camping (even when forced) produced some of their sweetest family memories.
Lauren
We must have gone to the same "parenting school" because your thoughts echo my own. We left our daughters (plural) when they were a little older (16 and 18)/had drivers licenses and held serious jobs they were required to be at on weekends. That was also before the days of cell phones and instant online communication. Also had wonderful next-door neighbors (both police officers) who watched over them, too.
Watch the movie "Taken"....(Liam Neeson's daughter gets abducted while overseas)

RE: Proposed USDA rule change internet puppy sales

I wondered about the breeders, but if four is the minimum number of breeding animals it should only impact the larger breeding operations. If I read this right, it's not new regulation (the law has been on the books since 1966) it's just updating and applying it to modern situations. Due to new technology and sales that never were able to happen this way before the internet there have been loopholes exploited by some individuals.
Hopefully - this removes the perceived line between "breeder" and "puppy mill"?? The perceived line being that breeders breed good dogs while puppy mills don't. But there's a HUGE warehouse operation in MO for Aussies that blows my mind - I think they have over a hundred dogs for sale last time I looked?? Maybe those dogs are all clean and healthy - still doesn't make the place a purveyor of nicely-socialized dogs.....

RE: How long for poop to break down?

Why does it need to "break down"? - your tanks are a holding facility - NOT a septic tank. Personally, I'd rather dump at the campground, even if things are still "whole" - than go driving down the road with a full black tank, trying to make like a macerator.....

RE: Why is my dog eating cat poop?

Our dogs don't seem to care what species (cat, fox, skunk, dog, rabbit, groundhog, duck, sheep, cow, vulture, deer, etc), it's all good to them.
Doggie hors d'oeuvres.... mine have a special fondness for goose - and I don't mean "pate"

I agree with capndan - you ARE using your right leg more. After my L hip was resurfaced, I developed bursitis in my right knee because it was working harder for the first few weeks

RE: Just for fun, boxer's morning ritual

That's hilarious!!! But smart - a scratch and massage at the same time?? Some dogs are just natural-born comedians. Ike, my Aussie - will grab the leg of my legs and clamp it shut with his jaws as I'm trying to slide my leg into them.... then he just looks up at me with "Ha ha - gotcha!" written all over his face :-)

RE: Easy-to-digest calories??

Well, for breakfast this morning, Ike had "Peaches 'n Cream oatmeal" with dog food mixed in. I worried about the fruit flavor - but he ate it right up! I thought about plain oatmeal - but wanted to get a little sugar into him, too. Easy to fix, nice and warm...brings out the full "bouquet" of the dog food (blecchhhh). Next week I'll take him back to the Vet to get weighed, and see how we do?

RE: Quiet Campground for July 4th - Dog fearful of fireworks

Stay away from places with lakes!!
We live on a large lake - the fireworks will start on June 29th - and with any luck will taper down around the 8th. Of course, some folks will get to their cottages on the 13th and realize they didn't shoot off the entire arsenal - so there will be MORE fireworks the following weekend....
Fortunately, my dogs aren't afraid of them - two actually go out on the boat with the family to watch the main display.

RE: Easy-to-digest calories??

Thanks, everyone!!!!!!!!
His appetite is as good as it always has been - he's a "nibbler". That's why I started giving him "special dinners" at night - which he bolts down impressively. It's basically 2 cups of food with something yummy mixed in, like cheese or meat bits from the table. Maybe I'll mix in some cereal - or start giving him "special breakfasts", too? "Ikey - would you like some Frosted Rice Krispies with your dog food this morning??" I'd like to think the fat content of the dog food would slow down the glycemic response to the cereal??

I'll bet it would sell on ebay - even though it's not "in fashion" - there are always folks looking for retro stuff - or costume/wardrobe people from the movies or theater looking fer "period" clothing

Easy-to-digest calories??

Ike. my 13 yr old Aussie - is still losing weight. He's down to 62 lbs - after being a lean 72# his entire life. My vet just put him on Pancreazyme (sp?) before his big dinner at night, theoretically to see if it will help him utilize his food better? He has food available 24/7, I just fix him a "special" dinner at night (with dinner scraps) to encourage him to eat more.
He sleeps a lot, as most old dogs do - but he still gets silly and plays (briefly) with the other dogs or threatens to "herd" me. Can still jump in the car for a ride. My point being that I'm not ready to let him go - not yet. He still seems to be having fun.
But I was wondering - are some calories easier to utilize than others? Right now, he's eating a "high performance" food that's quite high in fat and protein. But if carb calories digest easier - I'd feed him glazed donuts slathered in peanut butter if it put a few pounds back on him (just partially joking).
Any ideas??
