Those chocolate "fountains" scare me - and I love chocolate!! But not shared where folks can be double-dipping their cake bites.....

RE: Boat + Propane Appliances = Explosion

Having had a sailboat in a marina, and knowing how much EVERYTHING costs - I can't imagine what this kind of cleanup will run, dollar-wise :-( Because if it's like is is around here - not only do you pay for the cleanup - but there's fines for polluting the water, too.
I'm amazed that the owner survived such an incredible blast.

RE: Motion Induced Blindness

I beg of everyone that reads this; please, please look out for us. A fender bender in a car is deadly for a motorcycle.
I've always felt that no matter how RIGHT the motorcycle rider might have been - the moment the bike physically encounters something - the rider loses.
I must say that as a non-rider, the bikes with the modulated headlights are MUCH more visible/attention-grabbing!

RE: What do you do

Tired dogs are usually good dogs, for starters.
If I had a dog who couldn't be "mannerly" while I was gone (this would include fence-fighting with the neighboring RV's occupants, which is what it sounds like YOUR dog did) - that dog would be crated, pure and simple. Replacing the interior of the RV is too darn expensive. And although you can sit there 'til you're blue in the face, teaching your dog to be nice to the neighbors - dogs are smart and know you can't say "no"/punish/whatever while you're gone.
When you have some free time - a good obedience class, not only for the training, but for the socializing around strange people and dogs, might be a BIG help??

RE: Is it really winter?

They referred to the last couple of days of January here in Michigan (with temps in the high-40's) as "June-uary"
While I don't mind the lack of snow shoveling - the missing snow is killing a lot of businesses that depend on the snow-lovers. Our area abounds with snowmobile trails, and the "Snowmo-dollars" have been greatly missed by the local restaurants and bars.

RE: kayaks vs canoes

I think it boils down to how you want to carry the boat(s)?? I see you tow a TT - you could certainly carry a couple of hard kayaks on bedrails (and that's what *I* would do because I'm a paddle-holic). I'm sort of partial to my 12'6" sit-on-top kayak, because it handles lakes/oceans/rivers and it's super-stable. Also can not sink, in a worst-case scenario. Great for fishing/photography, etc. They generally hold a lot of gear, although not as much as a canoe can.
The downside to canoes/hard kayaks: lock them to your rack. They DO get stolen.
But if I was only going to paddle casually - the inflatables would certainly be easier to carry. My only caution with them is: never paddle when/where the wind could blow you offshore. Their higher profile can make them a bit harder to paddle if the wind really picks up.

RE: 15 + mpg with V10 in 29 footer?

The Ford V-10 is great engine but contrary to popular belief the "10" does not refer to the number of cylinders. It is the mileage that you will never, ever, no how, no way, see regardless of what you are driving/pulling. :B
ROFL!!!
We DID see 10 ONCE on our 28' V-10; I attribute that to an extended construction zone that kept us at 50-55 mph.
Ours, with its "square" shoulders and tall roof line (in other words - not particularly aerodynamic), consistently gets 8.5 mpg at 63 mph (or 8 pulling a toad). I can see where a shorter and more rounded profile *might* get 10+, if driven slowly??

RE: How did you get rid of fire ants?

I like our method for dealing with fire ants. Don't visit, go to, or live where the fire ants are and certainly not when they are active. Works perfectly every time and you don't need to buy anything from a store or apply it! Even your dogs will thank you profusely!
LOL!! But we're heading that way pretty soon - I have to REALLY watch my dogs, who think that fire ant mounds are something that needs to be "marked" :-(

RE: No more TP. Get a Bidet.

It's like I said to my elderly Grandma, who was dismayed by needing Depends in her 90's: "You come into the world wearing diapers, and I guess that's how you leave?" Not everyone has the luxury of a squeaky-clean posterior; yet somehow they prevail.... ;-)

RE: Dogs Seized AGAIN from owner of rescue org.

Yesterday a woman in Florida surrendered all her animals that were found starving and sick AND she was set free and not charged because she said she was moving to another state.
THIS blows my mind, considering the extent of the crime. She makes Michael Vick look like a saint - I hope the pet lovers of the world track her, and make sure she NEVER sets up an animal "shelter" again.
I also couldn't help but notice that was a pretty fancy place she lived in - wish they could seize the place and use the sale of it to recoup some of the costs of caring for her animals??

RE: Michigan's new prosperity

There is NO ice on the West Michigan beaches or shoreline or the rivers from about 100 miles north of South Haven to the indiana border and we're in the depth of winter.
None this winter, yet? Sure used to be back in the 50's and 60's.
Must be global warming which, if so, will greatly benefit Michigan in that it will moderate it's freezing winters, reduce it's summer humidity, and decimate it's mosquito hatches. :C
Nah - we're just having a really weird winter this year. The snowmobilers and cross-country skiers are borderline suicidal ;-) Normally, my kitesurfing pals use the ice floes as "launch pads" to get airborne in the spring...LOL!

(Stay in cold country - or leave it, and back to sun and sand).
Try a surf kayak sometime!
We can surf, too - the difference: OUR "oceans" taste OK and there's nothing in them that bites or stings ;-)
I'm getting a surf kayak in a month!

RE: Number of dogs allowed

I've found it never hurts to call and ask: I JUST made a reservation at a place that listed on their website that the price was based on "2 people and 2 pets per site". But upon speaking to the owner and explaining that I had 3 dogs - she said, "Oh - no problem"!
I've also had the "weight restriction" waived - it seems a #70 Aussie weighs less than a #50 pitbull ;-)
