RE: Texas Folks need your suggestions

So instead of going to Texas(forgive me Texans) have you been to Roman Nose State Park,Watonga,OK or Red Rocks State Park in Hinton, OK? Last Spring/Summer we spent a few days at each of them. They don't take reservations I know but...Roman Nose has a couple fishing lakes and Red Rocks has a lovely stream flowing through it and it is in a very lush canyon formerly a wagon train watering hole. We went to the museum in Hinton and learned so much about the Southern Route used by Wagon Trains called the California Trail. You can still see the ruts caused by the wagons dragging their wheels coming down the canyon!
Palo Duro is a good idea too!

RE: They Should Charge Extra For This!

We too live under a airport flight path! I realized how much I missed the 'noise' of the AFB planes as well as the Albuquerque International Airport planes on 9/11! It was eerie without the sound. Then when the Air Force planes started flying it was a relief! I will NEVER complain about the noise! I love hearing all of them. The DH and I sit outside in the afternoons watching them and try to guess what they are without looking!
Enjoy! We do!
God Bless America! And the people who serve!

RE: Dreaming of retirement

Go to your Library and do a search on RV. I found lots of books with bunches of information albeit most of the books are pretty dated the information is pretty much still the same.
There is also this website
RV Bookstore.
I learned SO much from this forum and you will too!

RE: Introducing myself.

Hi again,
You said you were frustrated with Google. Have you tried RVtrader or this forums RV sales? That might narrow it down to a more managable size. It might help you narrow your search. Just a suggestion.
Good Luck.

RE: Catwalk to Chaco to Durango or reverse

Oh I am SO jealous! That is the train that is the first of the Durango Bluegrass Meltdown Weekend! Hope you are going to take in the Meltdown? What a great event! This will be the first year in about 12 that we haven't gone. We love the festival! Great national, regional and local acts! And...plenty of jamming if you are a musician.Have a great time!
The CatWalk is quite a distance from Durango, about 378 miles but...worth it, as is Silver City which is just down the road from that. I'm sure that you will get a lot of feedback about Chaco. Lived in NM 53 years and never have been to Chaco and hear the roads are vicious and washboard like. Other secondary roads in NM aren't bad but Streets and Trips routes Durango to Glenwood out to 191 in AZ and down then back in NM for the CatWalk.
Again, have fun!

RE: Can't we all just get along

I pulled up on this accident along with alot of traffic, just shortly after it happened, even before emergency vehicles.(There were already alot of people stopped to help) I immediately was on the defensive for the RV'r thinking that someone must have pulled in front of the RV'r and he had had to make a quick move that caused him to roll the rig. Would never have thought that the RV'r was a road rager! We spend so much on our rigs why would anyone endanger them? It's beyond me!

RE: Amarillo, TX

We stayed at the Amarillo Ranch RV park while in Amarillo. It is about 1 mile west of the Big Texan Steak house. They have an indoor pool and very friendly work campers, or at least they did in April and July when we were there. It's a good days drive from Amarillo to Albuquerque. The RV Park Reviews for Albuquerque will give you a good feel for parks here. I like the High Desert because it's no frills, inexpensive, clean, neat and I know the manager, who works hard to keep the park clean and friendly. But there are several in town that are nice too.

RE: Our Tow Vehicle Dilemma...

So depending on the distance you all will be traveling you could search Autotrader.com. I was searching in the Islip area and there are a couple of Pickup trucks under well $10,000.00,and under 100,000 miles. These would pretty much guarantee towing power for you TT. Towing safely is the goal. With the max capacity of either of your vehicles right at the limits of the weight of your TT empty it seems that any additon of food, clothes, fresh water etc not to mention bodies is precarious to say the least. The weight police I'm sure will weigh in on this "pun intended" but again there is definitely a concern for safety.
But, all in all best wishes to you and the family on your camping trips.

RE: Lexington and Louisville, KY area

Well we visited them all to complete the Bourbon trail but if I had to choose I would choose Maker's Mark and then while up around Louisville Buffalo Trace(which is NOT on the Bourbon Trail) They were all fun but taste wise those are the best two (and.. I am not a bourbon fan).
Woodford Reserve is a very classy place and the do have good Bourbon Balls for tasting. It's pretty far out in the country near Versailles.

RE: Our first big trip, would love feedback..!

Looks like a great plan, except why do 363 miles in one day? Are you going to be dealing with mountainous terrain? If so that will mean a really long day because you can't always do 55-65 MPH at 55MPH that's a 6+ hour day with kiddo's, just sayin'. If you cut it to 250-260 then the next day is a short day!
Our rule now, of course we're retired, is 250 miles a day a little more or less.
Otherwise looks like a great time! Wish I could go with you! ;)
