RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

If you wish to hug a Valkyrie, go to the Honda Motorcycle shop and they should let you Hug one.:B:B:B:B:B
I'd rather adopt a German Shepherd and name her Brunhilde...and hug her.

Shadow, that's the thing about any drug: anyone's reaction to it may be different. It is why they have the long disclaimers on commercials, and why it is always prudent to keep in touch with your doctor when you are on a prescription medication and report any and all adverse reactions.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

For those who aren't into opera and classical music, "The Ride of the Valkyries" is one of the best known of Wagner's compositions, from Die Walküre (The Valkyrie), the 2nd of the 4 operas that comprise the epic "Ring of the Nibelung" cycle, one of my favorite classical works of all time. The story, based on German and Norse mythology about the Rheingold, the hero Siegfried and the coming of Ragnarok (Twilight of the Gods), includes a love story between Siegfried and the valkyrie Brunhilde, which was hilariously lampooned in the Warner Brothers cartoon "What's Opera, Doc" with Elmer Fudd as Siegfried and Bugs Bunny as Brunhilde.
But enough about classical music, back to the thread...This morning, while I was on the computer, Lily gagged up a little of her breakfast. Before I could turn around and clean up the mess, Molly did it for me...my protector, caregiver and cleanup crew, all in one.

RE: LP Detector problem

I have one empty canister and one unused. The empty one was in the compartment because I was planning on taking it to the propane recycler when I visit Bryce during my next trip. My local trash collector told me that I could not throw it in the garbage. The canisters are from Worthington.

That is great news! Here's hoping (and praying) that the Commissioners "see the light" this time around. Good Luck!

RE: LP Detector problem

The dealer checked for propane leaks. I doubt it's a propane leak anyway, since the detector always resets as soon as I press the button and doesn't go off again. If there is still gas around, it should sound again 5 minutes later. In 6 days of camping this season, with a considerable amount of furnace use, the detector went off twice.

RE: LP Detector problem

I know about the sensitivity to dog farts, but I have not smelled anything when the detector goes off, and my German Shepherd could clear the RV. I still don't know why the thing is going off like a smoke detector, and not like what the owner's manual says. This is a pretty common model, so I was hoping someone else might have had a similar problem, or has heard a "real" alarm on this detector.
Looking at big whitey's post, I don't have any gas cans, but I do have a couple of small disposable propane cylinders (1 lb) for my barbecue grill in an outside storage compartment. Any chance they could be connected? No indication of leakage.

LP Detector problem

My RV has a combo detector (Safe-T-Alert Model 70-742 LP/CO detector). This weekend, it went off once each night, both late at night. The HWH was turned off, the heater was on but not operating, no other propane appliances were in use. Each time, it gave off a continuous sequence of beeps (beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-etc), the red LED flashed, and each time I hit the reset button, it stopped, went to "green", and did not repeat. This has happened before (last September), my dealer checked it out and couldn't find anything wrong. The oddest thing, the alarm sequence is not listed at all in the owner's manual. An LP leak should be a continuous tone, a CO leak should be 4 beeps, then a 5-second pause. Low battery, malfunction and end-of-life alerts are also different from what I've been getting. The detector is a little over a year old. Each time it's happened, I've been connected to shore power, and I know the batteries are good. Strangest thing, though, the last time it happened (last night), one of the dogs was laying right next to it, close enough to breathe right into the detector.
Either the detector is faulty, or my dogs have been pranking me...

RE: Steps won't come out

If the battery was on disconnect, your inside light wouldn't work either. It's possible you might have a low battery, a couple of blown fuses, a bad or loose connection in your switch bank, or there may be separate problems. Open up the switch bank and check the continuity across each switch with a DVM, and check that all the wires are tightly connected on each switch. If these look OK, check for 12V at the step itself, and don't forget to check the voltage on your battery. You could also check the outside light in case it is just a bad bulb.

RE: Camper started 7,600 acre Colorado fire

I'm trying to figure out how a "small backpacking stove" could cause a brush/forest fire. What the heck was he doing with it???
As dry as it has been here, it only takes a single spark to start a massive fire, particularly in a heavily forested area like this. A careless moment, a tossed cigarette, a small flame can spread quickly through the trees, and the rugged terrain makes it hard to fight. Fortunately, we are getting some good rain today, so that will help the firefighters.
There is a fire ban in effect due to the dry conditions, although it is not clear if this kind of stove is included. In any case, the camper, knowing the conditions, should have been more careful, or even avoided using the stove.

RE: Is this a scam

Definitely a scam, and a common one at that. It's almost funny in that these scammers usually don't even bother to change the story that much. Of course, they only have to find one sucker every so often. They're like snakes: they only have to eat once in a while, swallow their victim whole, then spend the next few days digesting their meal.

RE: Campground Oops

A few years ago, there was an article in a journal that concluded that so-called "normal" behavior was purely a statistical artifact; that, in principle, we are all "abnormal". This, in retrospect, seems a bit obvious since, about 40 years ago, one of my favorite groups, the funny and insightful Firesign Theater, said it: "We are all bozos on this bus". :B

RE: Class A Diesel or Gas?

As you can see, opinions on this topic differ widely, and depend on the poster's individual needs and likes, as well as their particular perspective. For me, a gasser has always met my own needs very well, but that does not mean that a gasser is best for you. Sit down with your family, discuss your needs and desires, as well as your budget and plans, look at features, specifications and floor plans online, then go out and look at several makes and models of both types, new and used, take some test drives and talk it over. If you see something you like, and it meets most of your criteria, just go for it, whether it's gas or diesel. That's how I got my first RV, and I enjoyed it for 19 years.
