RE: 2012 Ford Escape

I have an '09 Escape. Had the fluid set to the recommended level since new, and no issues. I also stop every 2020 miles, start the engine and shift through the gears. I did re-check the levels AFTER Ford techs said it was OK. Had to go back 3 times for them to get it right BUT I wanted it documented that they did it in the event of a failure.

RE: Explorer computer re-flash in Florida? (or in the South}

The neutral tow "kit" is nothing more than an indicator light and some stickers. Ford service also needs to turn on the option in the computer. I bought the kit myself, installed it, then had my local Ford svc. turn on the option for $25 ( Had a pretty good relationship with my local guys)

RE: Our Ford Escape Escapades

Interesting...I had my '09 Escape's fluid level adjusted before I started towing and havent had any issues. I follow the procedure of running the engine and shifting through the gears every time we stop, probably no more than 200 miles.
I will say that I re-checked the fluid level after the dealership said they had done it. It took 3 times to get it right. The tranny needs to be checked while at temperature also. Had I taken their word for it, I may have been a replacement candidate.
I also love the Escape, now at 47K.

RE: any honda vtx motorcycle riders i need help

http://www.vtxoa.com/
This site is for VTX's only. Also if it is on then check the vacuum hose behind the switch if this falls off as mine did no fuel will be delivered to the engine.
Mine did also, drove me nuts! Also, I've read (and noticed)that you should never use the choke much to start, even when cold. If it wont kick after the first crank, pull the choke out very little. cracnk it and as soon as it starts, turn that !@#$#@@! choke off.
If still a problem, that is a great forum to get on. Good luck.

RE: First trip out in almost a year!

Great idea Lou, that thought ran through my mind last nite. Unfortunately, with other things going on, I won't have any time to devote to it.
But thanks alot for bringing it up. We won't be at the MH alot anyway, really only for sleeping. The wedding weekend festivities will have us out all day.

RE: First trip out in almost a year!

Yea we've had minimal problem over the years, and maximum fun on many trips so all I can do is shrug it off :C

First trip out in almost a year!

Finally, after relocating from NJ, buying a house (and all that goes with that) new job, our daughter starting college, we are getting out on a trip this weekend.
We never let the MH sit for any long periods of time, always had something going, but this period of inactivity has taken a toll, and it needs some attention. Found the transfer switch on the shore power side failed. Removed it, now need to replace. 40A fuse and holder for leveling pump fried, probably because of a lazy jack, but that'll be an easy fix. My slide motor had failed previously and had been manually cranking out but the bar that connects to the gearing fell out, so that needs fixing also.
But these problems will not stop us from doing our trip, as we have a wedding to attend, and need to bring our pups along. Basically we'll be dry camping in a KOA, since I have no shore power, no slide, and no jacks :(
May seem like a bad way to start, but we're not letting it ruin our weekend, still planning on a great outing.
See y'all out there!

RE: Lobsters

Ate alot of lobster when we did a Cape Cod trip. There was this little village of shops around Mashpee ? where they sold a lobster roll, $25 but it was enough for 2 people, probably the best I had there.

RE: RR HWH Jack not returning

I was surprised at how persistent they are if they miss you. They hold open the ticket for quite some time and they make multiple calls to you to ensure you do not need any more help.
I have a lazy jack now, need to give them a call myself. I am able to pry it up with a 2x4. The owner before me said he had to open the valve release to get it back up but I havent had to.

RE: RR HWH Jack not returning

I have had excellent support from HWH. If you call they give you a Reference # and a tech will call you back. The tech will then go through a step by step troubleshooting procedure, and based on your tests, will tell you what is wrong and even get the right parts ordered.
BTW I believe that screw is a pressure release.

RE: Use a laptop or netbook for navigating?

,
Make a "hood" for the screen so that it is shaded. Be directly "on axis" for viewing the screen.
Hmm, good idea for my windshield glare problem!

MUST get out on a trip soon!

We've been so busy for the last year, selling our house in NJ, buying a house in NC, job searching, moving (yes did it myself with friends n family) getting settled...etc, havent been out since last Thanksgiving.
Now planning our first trip out from our new home state. Thinking of Charleston, SC or Savannah, GA areas. Cant wait to get out on the road!

RE: Use a laptop or netbook for navigating?

Also using a laptop with MS S&T (though an older version) This works out well for me since the screen is probably 14". I use the voice prompting. Want to get a mini wireless mouse instead of using the onboard mouse.
I built a small table on the engine cover and turn the laptop towards me. I am the primary user since my wife isnt able to view it while running - susceptible to motion sickness.
The only issue I have is at nite. Even though I turn on the "night" screen option, the GPS and direction panes are too bright and put a glare on the windshield directly in my line of site out.
I believe I'm using S&T '06 or '08 (cant remember) Anyone know if its worth upgrading?
