RE: Lewis & Clark trail

We have not tried to follow the L&C Trail, but have visited a number L&C sites on various trips west. We bought a copy of Along the Trail with Lewis and Clark and found it a very valuable reference. I also read Undaunted Courage by Stephen Ambrose, a very interesting read.
X2 on the recommendation to visit the L&C Interpretive Center in Great Falls. Go to the adjacent Giant Spring when you are there. There is an Interpretive Center in Washburn ND and a reconstruction of Fort Mandan nearby. The Interpretive Center in Nebraska City NB was good too. A couple of years ago we stopped in Lolo MT at the site of the L&C Traveler's Rest campsite. Recent archeological evidence disclosed their actual campsite.
We plan to visit Pompey's pillar and Spirit Mound on this year's trip.

RE: Slideout Topper replacement help

I replaced the fabric on the slide topper for our 2003 Minnie 24F a couple of years ago. Pictures and write up are in this thread.

RE: How level?

I calculated the max allowed for our wheelbase based on the Norcold specs. Turned out to be 7 inches front to back and side to side. That's too much slope for us to be comfortable living inside. We find we are comfortable being no more than 3 inches out of level so that's our limit. Good for the fridge too.

RE: siphon 360 vent cover

I have the 360 Siphon on both grey and black vents. Works better than the rotating vents that were on there previously.

RE: red max replacement

I used ZEP Wet Look Floor Finish and it came out great. Four coats required less than 1/2 gallon for our 24ft class C.

RE: Gen.

Had a similar issue with our Onan 4kw gen a couple of years ago. Turned out to be the fuel pump. If your gen has a prime function on the switch at the gen, try to prime it after the gen quits. If you don't hear the pump buzzing after a few seconds replace the pump.

Gotta ask - a HOBO rating means??
We visited Bryce a couple of years ago. Definitely a 5 (assuming a 5 is the top rating).

RE: Lake Fishing from your campsite- PA/VA area

Lake Jean in Ricketts Glen State Park has fishing. A number of the campsites are adjacent to the lake.

Ours get a bit cloudy after a few years, so I just replace it. A real handy gadget for keeping an eye on the tailgaters who are drafting us.

RE: Need Advice Maxxair fans or just covers?

I replaced the Maxxaire vent cover over the original little bathroom fan with a Turbomax Fan. Easy install as the vent cover brackets that were already there fit the TurboMax. Now we have a bidirectional 3-speed fan that is all but inaudible on the low speed. Moves lots of air on low speed, so we seldom use the higher speeds. One of our best upgrades.

RE: Cyclone Sewer Vent for Roof

We had the rotating type vents for a few years until the shaft got bent. Replaced with the 360 Siphon, which IMO works much better and has no moving parts.

RE: 2004 Winnie 24F class C questions

We have a 2003 Minnie 24F. Bought it new in October 2003. We have enjoyed it for 70,000 miles of travel. Only chassis problem was a failed ABS controller, that was replaced at no cost by Ford under warranty. Other than new tires, that is the only time it has been in the shop.
We have had a couple of water leaks. The worst was in the cabover. The leak source was the sidewall to floor joint on the passenger side where the sidewall appears to have been cut wrong and the metal trim strip barely covered the joint. Suggest you remove the mattress and check the cabover floor for soft spots, especially forward of the metal beam in the floor. We also had a small leak from the center brake light as the wiring hole was almost as large as the height of the light and the gasket didn't seal properly.
Other than that, everything still works and we have had a great time with it. Heading out for a trip to UT, CO and WY later this week.
Surging of the generator sounds like a gummed up carburetor.

RE: Montana 89 to 2

We drove route 89 from Yellowstone all the way up to St. Mary on the east side of Glacier back in early June 2010. All good road and very scenic. There is one pass in the Little Belt mountains north of White Sulphur Springs, but no steep grades or switchbacks. Route 2 from Browning over to the west side of Glacier is also an easy drive.

RE: plastic rear window magnifier

Never had one fall off the window. I just clean the window, wet the window and magnifier and apply to the inside, then work the air bubbles out. They do get a bit milky after a few years, so I'm now on the third one.
Stupid question - you are applying the SMOOTH side of the magnifier to the INSIDE of the window, right?

RE: traveling to yellowstone, east entrance from cody on hwy 14.

We left Yellowstone via the east entrance to Cody back in 2007. The had just finished repaving the road surface and hadn't yet painted the lines on the road in the pic below. A very enjoyable drive all the way to Cody.

RE: Red max pro#3

Not really on point, but does one have to remove the sloppy caulking oozing around windows and doors, or just clean and cover with the RMP after doing all the above. If the caulk must be removed, how?
I didn't remove any caulk before applying the finish, just cleaned it up (the dirty white Dicor). I used the ZEP Wet Look Floor Finish, as the RMP wasn't available from either Lowes or Home Depot. My caulk is now shiny, just like the fiberglass and black metal window frames.

RE: best route from spring grove, pa to eastham, ma

For many years we drove several times/year from NJ to visit Mom & Dad in Marstons Mills on the Cape. We always went north to the Tappan Zee Bridge then I95 across CT to I195 at Providence to route 25, the Sagamore Bridge over the canal and route 6 on the Cape. There were times when the traffic was bad on I95 west of New Haven and just before Providence, but there were other times we just sailed on through. Last time we did this was in 2006.
Looking at Streets & Trips, from Spring Grove I would head up to I78 to I287 in NJ to the Tappan Zee.
No suggestions on where to stay enroute as we always drove straight through.

RE: VA 2 DC. I95 vs 301?

We took I95 north from Williansburg to NJ back in 2005 and got stuck in a very bad traffic jam going around DC. Since then we have used 17 from Yorktown to 301 twice. 301 is mostly a divided highway through nice farm country. Easy drive with little traffic except for some areas of malls and traffic lights east of DC.
