RE: Thank you Komfort ( Dutchmen )

We love our Dutchmen Komfort. We probably have about 7000 miles pulling so far. Really haven't had any significant problems.
I'd buy it again!

I am currently a DirecTV subscriber. In the past I have taken one of my SD receivers when we are out in the RV. As we will be hosting a Forest Service campground for about 3.5 months this summer we need to reconsider our satellite service. I have a great tripod system that I want to continue to use. I am not interested in a carry out antenna nor one mounted on the top of the fifth wheel. I will be in a highly forested area so the roof top won't work and don't really want to invest in a carry out.
I have been reading about the Dish Network's Hopper and Joey system, but have a couple of questions.
1. What antenna/lnb do I need for the Hopper and Joey? Dish 500 Pro?
Winegard's Hopper antenna list.
I take it this will work?

2. Can someone explain the how the wiring works? I have read it is a one wire system and if so there has to be a splitter somewhere. If so what kind of splitter?
Does anyone know if the Denver Network channels are still broadcast on a CONUS satellite? In the past I was a Dish Network subscriber and at that time the Denver Networks were CONUS.
Thanks

RE: Share your favorite primative Colorado Campground

We're planning to go back to Silverjack at least once this summer, hope it doesn't get too crowded now.
The only time I have ever seen Silverjack full is 4th of July weekend. Avoid that and you will have lots of elbow room.
Look me up up in the loop 2 host site if you make it up.

RE: Share your favorite primative Colorado Campground

Not a lot of sharing going on here!(LOL) OK leave your 'favorite" spot out, but how about telling us about some "nice" spot you know of in Colorado.
Wow! A rattler at that elevation! I've been going there most every summer for 40 years and have never seen a rattler. I have rarely seen snakes at all. Lot's of other wildlife though. Last summer when we were up there the camp host told us that a moose was spotted. Haven't one of those either. Heres hoping!

Share your favorite primative Colorado Campground

How about sharing your favorite Colorado primitive campgroud.
Here is mine:
Silverjack campground - Silverjack is located near Ridgeway, Colorado in the SW part of the state. I will tell you how to find it below, but first a description of the campground and area.
Silverjack is located in the Uncompahgre National Forest. It is situated in a thick aspen grove. When I say thick - I mean thick. Some campsites are so dense you can't really see the scenery around you. The road leading to Silverjack is gravel, but usually well maintained. I have seen the road pretty washboardy in past years, but in recent years it seems to be maintained much better. This past summer it was in great shape. When you pull into the campsite the road turns to asphalt. All of the sites are also asphalt and there are both pull through and back in sites.
The best things about the campground - It is isolated (about 21 miles off of the main highway) so few people know of it and fewer still are willing to get that far off of the highway - It is one of the more scenic areas of Colorado. Aside from the beauty of the Aspen grove itself the campground overlooks Silver Jack Reservoir and is surrounded by rugged rock outcroppings. The area is dense with aspen and blue spruce - Recreational opportunities abound. Several hiking trails with varying levels of difficulty are in the area including a trail which will take you to the top of 14,000 foot Uncompahgre Peak. Fishing for rainbow is generally good in the reservoir and in nearby Beaver Lake - And did I mention very few people!!!! I don't have anything against people - I just like a little ellbow room when I go camping. There are 60 sites at Silver Jack - I have never seen it full!!! By the way facilities include water, vault toilets, and trash containers. Black bears frequent the area so be sure to take the proper precautions to avoid unwelcome contact with them.
Last year the daily rate were raised - I beleive to $14.00 per night. Not a lot of money, but a bit steep for primitive camping. Ther are other camping options in the area. I mentioned Beaver Lake which is also a campground. I beleive it has about 12 site, is a bit more primitive, and isn't as RV friendly. Same facilities as Silver Jack. Also for the adventurous there are several pull off areas in which camping is permitted. The Cimarron river feeds Silver Jack Reservoir. Actually 3 forks of the river feed it. Roads follow the forks. The best pull off sites are along the middle fork and are actually quite good with some vault toilets in the area. No trash pickup so plan on carrying it out. I would not go to far down this road with a motorhome, fiver, or travel trailer, but once you have unhooked I would suggest drive to the end of the road. It gets pretty rough, but I wouldn't call it a 4X4 road. Just take it slow. Watch for the waterfall sign. A short hike up the hill along the trail will reward you with one of the prettiest waterfalls I have seen in Colorado.
I guess I should tell you how to find it and quit rambling. If you are towing I would suggest approaching from the Cimarron side (dump station in Cimarron). About 2.5 mile east of Cimarron on Highway 50 (runs between Gunnison and Montrose) take forest service road 858 to the south for about 21 miles and you are there. It is clearly marked. You will pass Beaver Lake campground on the way up.
Oh I almost forgot. If you continue on Rd. 858 you will go over Owl Creek Pass. Look closely at some of the rock formations and you are likely to recognize some of them from the movie "True Grit" staring John Wayne. Some of the movie was filmed in the area!!!
One last thing. Patti and I just recently found out that we will be hosting one of the loops at Silverjack for the summer.
Come up and see us!

RE: Direct TV receiver

I see you are from Colorado. Our locals are the Denver channels. We can get the locals as far away as Moab, UT. That's about 400 miles driving. Don't really know how far as a bird flies. So if they are Denver locals you should get them a little farther than 150 miles.

Most do, but some don't. Case in point, Dead Horse Point State Park in Utah. No water available. It would be worth checking prior to going.

RE: Satellite TV Dish

I put together a tripod stand using a surveyors transit tripod very similar to TV4RV's. The tripod cost me about $60.00 as I recall. I used a chain link fence pole and had a friend weld it to a flat metal plate to mount on the tripod. I have used it for years.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/cimriver/satellite-stand.gif
I use one of these to tie down the dish. We've been in some pretty hard winds and never a problem.
I take a receiver from home. I have never had a problem getting it to work.

RE: Mobile DirecTV HD Satellite

Roof mounts are fine for some, but I didn't ask about a roof mount. I asked about the possibility of a dish smaller than the slimline.

Mobile DirecTV HD Satellite

I know this topic has been repeatedly addressed on this forum, but my searching doesn't come up with answers to some of the specific questions I have. So here we go again.
I currently have a portable dish that I use while we are out in the RV. It is set up for SD reception only. SD has been fine for the shorter RV trips we have made in the past. We will be hosting a Forest Service Campground this coming summer and will be using our portable setup for at least 4 months, so would like to have HD reception as well as DVR capabilities. Currently I take my SD reciever for use in the RV. I would like to take my HD DVR. I have become quite adept at aligning the satellite for our SD setup.
I understand that I will need to use a slimline dish like the one installed at our stick home.
Here are my questions:
Are there any other options than the rather heavy slimline dish?
Is there a lighter dish that I can use?
My current HD DVR has two cables coming from the dish with a rectangular box installed right before the connections on the DVR. (What are these things?)
How difficult is aligning the slimline? I use an align-a-site currently and would move it over to the slimline.
Thanks in advance for your help!

RE: Tankless water heaters

Yeah I can't comment on how well they work either as I have never used one. You might want to do search on them as there have been many threads on the subject.
I would be concerned about having to always use propane even though you have an electrical hookup. I go through propane fast enough.

I think you are going to have trouble getting your rig in that site. Some of those pull-thrus are pretty tight. Reserve America lists it as less than 30 feet long.

We saw several of the Kodiak models at the RV show in Denver a few weeks ago. They seemed like real nic units. We are very happy with the Dutchmen Komfort fifth wheel we have.

RE: Heartland Elkridge QSQB

Don't have that model, but had the 34QSRL. Beautiful interior, but I fel Heartland needs to work on their quality control a bit. Traded it for a Dutchmen Komfort last summer.
You might consider checking the Heartland Owners forum here to see what other Heartland owners are saying.

RE: Portable generators

I have the Honda 2000 and the Yamaha 2800. I have had the Honda for several years, but couldn't run the Microwave or the Convection oven in our new fifth-wheel so bought the Yamaha last summer. They are both great generators.
