RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Went inside to see what I have to do for the FMCA Vancouver Islanders Rally this weekend and found a new Sirius Radio still in the box lying on the dash. I suspect that DW will want me to install it!

RE: Dinette screws stripped out - fixable?

I don't see any reason why you can't rotate the base to find firm wood.
If you go the toothpick and glue route note that some toothpicks have a waxy surface and glue won't adhere well. I have also found that white carpenters glue doesn't work well for this purpose as it's not gap filling. Use epoxy as someone mentioned.
You could also epoxy a piece of solid wood to the particle board and screw into that. It would of course raise the table a small amount.

RE: Planning on staying in Mexico for 18 months vice 6

Lew,
. . . . . . .
ICBC will Deliver the Tags to You wherever You can receive Mail.. . . . . .. . . . .
Rob, has ICBC recently changed the rules?
Unless something has changed with ICBC in the last couple of years that is NOT true. Three years ago ICBC would only send our decals and papers to our home address in Canada. They DID e-mail a copy of the documents, but they refused to send the decal. We drove home with out dated tags!
Our Mexican vehicle insurance is only good for a total of 180 days in Mexico per year, (In and out permitted, but a max of 18o days). As Rob said, it does require that you have coverage at home when you cross the border into Mexico.
MSP allows you to be out of the province for up to two years(I think the max is 24 months) every 5 years. It can be done by phone. We did this a few years ago for a 10 month trip. (You have to maintain the premiums of course.)
Re FM3, FM2 (or what ever they call them now!)
We have a friend who for the past 5 years or so has lived full time in Zihuatanejo in her motorhome and uses the campground address. Her site has its own (government) electric meter but the account is in the property owners name. She gets copies of that and covering letter from the property owner.
Glad to hear you are better Lew. Hope to run into you sometime!

RE: Wrecked my 96 Dynasty, need advice!

Tom...be careful what you post about the incident on a public forum. As an example, you opening statement makes it sound like it was your fault. Until all the facts are in, someone could take advantage of what you have to say. Get with your own insurance agent and discuss the situation. Take pictures of both the damage and if possible where the accident occurred. Work with your own insurance company for advice. Just my opinion.
Ditto! Especially about contacting your own insurance company--they will likely go to bat for you as they don't want pay a claim if it was not your fault.

RE: Windshields for older Class A's

Welcome to the RV World. May your "RV Moments" all be good ones! For a look at ours, see our blog at http://jacksonsjourneys.blogspot.com
The postings start at most recent and work backwards, but you can go back earlier postings to read it in chronological order. Most of our postings are from October through March or April as we winter in Mexico.
Start your own blog, it makes a good record for yourself too, and there will likely be lots of "Blog Fodder" along the way!

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Took all batteries out and cleaned and painted battery tray. Had to charge coach batteries. Still trying to figure that out.
Chassis or house batteries? Many rigs don't charge the chassis batteries from shore power or generator--only from the engine alternator. We took care of that with a Xantrex Echo Charger . Now they even charge from solar.
IF it's the house batteries, there must be a draw there somewhere.

RE: Rewiring Camper

The first thing that you have to figure out: whether this is 120 volt AC (Alternating Current, not Air Conditioning!) as in your house, or is it 12 Volt DC (Direct Current) as from a battery, or a combination?
As other have said above, we need to know a lot more, fuse panels, etc. If the unit is original 1956 vintage there won't likely be a lot of circuits, probably just a few lights. Our ham radio club had an early 60s trailer with two 120 volt outlets and a couple of 12 volt lights. The systems have to be kept separate!
It sounds like a fun project, but electrical circuits can be dangerous--even 12 volts. BUT don't be afraid to tackle it if you want to. There is lots of advise and support available on this board.
How about a photo or two of the interior and exterior? It would help us to get our heads around what you have to work with.

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Installed the parts required to repair the Velvac mirror that had been removed by a bus in Puerto Vallarta.
(details on blog pages PV to Maz and Mazatlan entries)
Then I discovered that somehow I had wired it incorrectly; the up-down-left-right were all mixed up! I thought I had spliced the wires correctly but a check on the internet showed that for some reason Velvac has the yellow and blue wires spliced to the black, the black to the white, and the white to the brown! I had simply attached like color to like, except the single brown to the yellow and blue that we already paired. :h
Tomorrow take it apart, cut and splice again. I really hope I left enough slack so I don't have to take the whole thing off and re-splice new wire in like I had to do today.

RE: Feliz Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in a fairly big way in the city of Puebla, where the battle occurred. For the most part, in the rest of Mexico it's not a big deal.

RE: ICBC rebates for BC Residents

Paul - I take to my insurance agent only the following - the Banjercito entry and exit receipts for the TIP's for the truck & trailer. They take copies and submit them to ICBC and the private insurance companies we use for more than basic coverage and they send us refunds. I know they can be done by mailing, but this is much simpler if your agent will do it. RYV
We do the same. The agents know us well now! For the Motorhome they use the paperwork for the tow car. We also try (not always possible) to have a campground and or fuel receipts each side of the border on the day we cross. ie a load of diesel in Eagle pass one day and a campground receipt in Saltillo the next.
It is very easy using the agent as we have ICBC and private insurance. The cool thing this year, the agent was able to directly apply the refund from the private insurance to a new vehicle we bought just after our return!

RE: What is wrong with this Scenario?

Here I am on Friday 13 April, storing away my fans and bringing out my electric heaters! Looking at a part of the Pacific Ocean , realizing that the shorts and sleevless teeshirts will stay stowed under the bed until I hit around Mazatlan next Oct-- God willing!
I know a lot of snowbirds go back to a shoulder season and hit good temps in Jul Aug. But few realize that the Victoria area has no outdoor pools! and you do not need to ask why!!
Anyway, I am here locked into BC med problems which by the way are being solved with no complaints. I have locked myself into summers on Vancouver Island when I should be going to the interior!!
If and or when I survive my Radical Prostectomy next Friday I am going to have to look at a FM3 with Mex med insurance later.
I cannot afford, financially and mentally to continue living in the country where I was born and defended under arms for 37 yrs when I have the option of wonderful MEXICO!!
Hey Lew, send us a PM. Maybe we can get together with a few other displaced part time Mexicans and have a few Coronas!

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Yesterday: Finally parked it in our stick house driveway after our 5 1/2 month winter escape to Mexico. Cool/ cold and rain all the way from LA north so we were well acclimatized by the time we got here!. Although surprised this morning when we woke to clear and sunny skies! Likely not for long though.
Now to prepare it for our trip south in the fall!

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Yesterday, cleaned the front windshield by driving it up the 101 through the rain in Northern California. Today: More of the same in Oregon on the way to Albany. Why won't the rain clean the rest of the rig? Not going to mention the Jeep.
We miss Zihuatanejo!

RE: Pros and Cons of double towing

Most states and provinces do not allow it. Those that do almost all if not all jurisdictions specify that the middle unit must be a 5th wheel trailer.
