RE: BLM fire restrictions read if you are going to the desert

Seems to me they would want to burn off all those nasty invasive grasses.....just sayin'. Shouldn't have kicked all the bands of sheep off the desert, then it wouldn't have been a problem.
So have you heard the best one? They (feds) are shooting Crows, a protected species, for eating the desert tortises, a protected species. But you better not touch either one........

RE: Rally on the Rocks - Moab

Closest is OK Corral, you're right there. KOA is not offroad friendly, Spanish Trail is acrossed the highway close if your thinking of the Rally. I personally like Archview 9 miles north of town. You can ride out of there, they have gas, and shade. Ken's Lake to the south of town is doable also.

RE: Rally on the Rocks - Moab

At the Rally, they have escorts (PD) to most of the trails to get you through town. Kane Creek and Fins and Things/Hells Revenge come to mind. There are other trails that are listed that you will need to trailer. Behind the Rocks and 7 Mile Rim would need a trailer, but there is a plethora of trails you can hit without a trailer. If you haven't ever been, it's worth it to ride with a bunch of different folks from different areas, the vendor row, the dinner, and the raffle are all great.

RE: Campground within 4 hours or so of San Diego

OK, are you tenting it, do you want paved bike paths, and being in the forest to camp or within driving distance? You may want to think Bishop/ Owens Valley area with lots of lakes, streams, high desert or forest, small rv parks, but the bike path thing, other than dirt trails may be a stretch. It would be worth the trip, but may be a little more than 4 hrs. Or somewhere up around Big Bear/ Lake Arrowhead by San Bernardino.

RE: Bridgeport area

I must have followed you today. The river side open areas are just north of Hwy. 89 turnoff. One CG and one day use area next to the river were open, but I didn't see the CG gate on the other side of the highway open. Lots of fly fishermen out today! What did you think of the 5$ fuel prices in Bridgeport? Cheaper gas at the ARCO in Minden, only 3.77 for reg.

RE: Bridgeport area

I have stayed in a large gravel lot overnight on the northwest end of town across from the Shell station and next to a grocery store. Big lot, trucks a few times, froze the plumbing in May one time, but for just a sleep and get on down the road, it's okay. Breakfast at the Bridgeport Inn used to be good, park on the side street next to the Inn. Also, along the Walker River where it runs right next to 395, there are some nice wide pullouts okay to overnight in. That would be south of Walker and north of Bridgeport.

RE: Who to contact in an emergency

If you are staying on Forest Service land, just google the forest name and it should have the ranger unit office phone numbers for the one closest to where you are camping. That's the one thing that the SPOT locator has on a cell phone. According to their info, they will contact the closest 911 responder for you, and it is satellite, as opposed to cell phone towers. www.findmespot.com
Never have had to use mine, but it is always with me, and you can push the "I'm Okay" button every once in awhile, and the contacts you hasve entered on your info will be sent a text or email, with your GPS location noted on google earth. Cheap check-in and you don't need cell service.

RE: looking for Mammoth dry camping

Nobody should bother you. Least ways, I have never heard of any problems. Deadman's campground may be closed, but there is all kinds of dispersed camping around there. As late as winter is running, it may still have some snow on the trails though.

RE: Durango Colorado

Fly Boy, I would drive in with your trailer from the s/w, Flagstaff up thru Kayenta into Cortez and over to Durango. We did not stay in Durango, but met a bunch in Silverton to ride the Alpine Loop. The road from Durango to Silverton is not bad, just watch your speed for curves and hills. Silverton in town, is not UTV/ATV friendly at all, but on the north end of town is a rv park ( it has changed names and don't know the new one)that I was told this year, you can ride out the last mile of pavement to hit the dirt and go thru Eureka (dry camping) and on up to Animas Forks and from there over to Lake City or all the passes. Google Engineers Pass, Poughkeepsie Gulch, Alpine Loop, Black Bear Pass. I fit the 40' in there before they "improved it" so your's should fit. And as Dave said, do the train, the kids will love it.

RE: Good CG around Parker AZ w/ Hookups

Blue Water RV Park in Parker, next to the Casino is quiet and well kept, close to Wally World and town. La Paz County Park 7 miles north on AZ 95 is right on river on the AZ. side, we've watered and dumped there a few times, and it looks decent.
