RE: Microsoft Security Essentials say's im not validated

This is not an issue with MSE. You have an unregistered version of the Windows 7 operating system. That means you either forgot to register it and you may have a bootlegged copy. If you have a valid key for Windows 7, open a command prompt (Start->Run->cmd.exe) and type "slui 3". It will then ask you to enter the key. There is a space between slui and 3.

RE: Does reciprocity apply to total length?

Each state has their own regulations for equipment without reciprocity. In MD you are required to stop at the weigh stations with any vehicle over 5 ton GVW. I checked with the state DOT and they said that is the law but it is not enforced for RVs. The max length in MD is also only 55 feet; again, that is not enforced.
Like others have said; be courteous and avoid being stopped by the LEO and you will not have any problems.

RE: Nominate the worst highways for Motorhomes

I lived in SoCal for 27 years. The roads in the east are much worse. But I may be just bragging.
I am surprised that no one has mentioned I95 in South Carolina. I keep thinking they are going to repair it, but not the last time we drove up the coast.

RE: Our first tow with the Honda Fit

Did that ONCE. Left two nice trenches down the gravel driveway. Luckily I looked in the rear view mirror and noticed the damage to the driveway.
I was once on the DC beltway when I noticed a MH going the other way towing a nice SUV. Heavy smoke coming off of all four wheels on the SUV. Don't know the reason but my guess is something with the break-away cable.

RE: "Thermo Pane Windows" -- To Buy or Not to Buy ??

I have them in our MH and would not be without them. In southern AZ you could get into temps over 100 degrees. You should have insulated and tinted windows installed. Otherwise you will be pushing the capabilities of your AC.
The gas in the insulated windows does not do much for the R factor but may help with the fogging inside of the two panes. We do have one windows in the MH that has broken the seal. I have yet to get it replaced. It is flat glass so I should be able to go to any glass shop. They can custom make just about any flat window using the existing window as a pattern. I used to work in the glass industry that made insulated glass.

RE: iPad compatible printer

Search the net for "airprint server". You will get some hits with instructions on making your Windows machine an Airprint server for your iPad. You should then be able to use all of your existing printers.

RE: Need advice on RV magazive article

There are some gross misconceptions in the article. It is assumed that the limiting factor in towing with the minivan was the engine and transmission. The other factor is the frame (or lack of). It is a unibody frame that can only take so much weight bolted to it with a hitch. It is almost all sheet metal, not a strong boxed frame. That has not changed since the minivan came out.
There is also a misconception that a bullet shape means much less drag when towing. Only partially true. When you push (or pull) something through the air you must displace the amount of air equal to the square footage of the front of the vehicle. This does not change no matter what the shape of the front end. The shape does make it smoother while moving through the air and helps with the drag coefficient. But most of the drag is due to the air you have to move out of the way.
Bottom line - don't do it. It is very unsafe to tow something that large and that overweight.

RE: Upgrade Brakes?

I put new rotors and ceramic pads on one of my cars. The ceramic pads take a little more pressure to stop but do not put out any dust. I don't know if I would recommend them for a truck pulling some weight. But the rotors are much better. The OEM rotors warped within 20K miles. The new rotors (from TireRack) are much smoother and are not showing any signs of wear.

RE: Cracker Barrel parking?? Safe?

We only have had one bad experience. We went to the CB in Williamsburg, VA, for lunch. In broad daylight someone busted the lock on the MH and stole some luggage and electronic equipment.
I have to admit that I think I would be safer at a CB parking lot than at a WalMart. WalMart is not bad, just a lot of people hanging around at night. Not many people in the CB parking lot after they close.

RE: MH dropped off wrecker truck

Had a wreck in the car two years ago. Other persons fault. Our insurance company handled everything. To be honest, I was not happy with the results and got rid of our insurance company after it was settled. ($14k repairs on a car worth $12K).
IMPO, You should consider getting a lawyer involved. There are too many parties involved. Your insurance company, the tow trucks insurance, maybe auto club, and could even include home owners insurance. Then there is the chassis damage versus the carriage damage. This could get complicated, bring in a pro.

RE: Up date on gas tank replacement

I was waiting in a Costco line, so the owner could fill his Prius with 7 or 8 gallons of fuel, saving about $0.25 per gallon ($2 total saved) over going to another gas station with no lines down the street. Thinking what a waste of time to save $2.If the owner of the Prius was not interested in saving money, why would they drive a Prius?
BTW, we drive a Prius. I still look for the lowest price even though it costs me less than half what other people are paying to travel. We average about 52MPG (for real) and I will bet the national average is less than 25. But we make it up when we drive the MH. :(
You were just upset that you had to wait behind them. :B

RE: Dolly towing new Prius

We have a 2011 Prius but we have not tried to dolly tow it yet. We did have almost the same problem with a Saturn Vue towing 4 down. I left on the parking brake and skid the rear wheels down our driveway. Luckily the driveway is gravel. Got the same "check engine" light and error code. Wheels were spinning at different speeds!

RE: Towing Accident -- Titan/Hensley/Airstream Combo

We were once towing a 30' trailer that weighed about 8,000 pounds with a Dodge 2500 CTD and had a serious sway problem. It had sway control but not Hensley. The issue that caused the sway was a sudden dip in the road on only one side. The TT was all over the road, DW was driving and almost lost it. I had not trained her on how and why to use the trailer brakes. From the description of the accident, the same thing MAY have happened to the driver when he pulled off of the main road. The shoulder could have been lower than the pavement causing the trailer to suddenly sway. We had the whole road to recover, he had a gaurd rail in his way.
Accidents happen, the main concern is the safety of the people. I am glad they were safe.

RE: Sig won't show up when I post, only if I start a thread.....

I think they have the site programmed so that your signature only shows up once per page. It will show up on the first post but not the third. This saves screen space and bandwidth.

RE: Tundra Towing ability...or lack thereof?

We used to tow a 30' with the 4.7L Tundra. You will have no problems with the two TTs you have listed. I do not remember the weight of our trailer but it was over 6,500. With the 5.7 and the larger Tundra, you can handle a fair sized rig.

RE: IPAD2 VS Samsung(Verizon) +WIFI 3G or the rest.....

We have had an IPad 2 for about 2 weeks. I am a geek but I was getting tired of my Android phone needing to be rebooted so we are giving Apple a chance. So far it is very nice. We have the WiFi only version. I have read that I can tether that to my cell phone for Internet access but I have not tried it yet.
Pros: Bullet proof apps, easy interface, large selection of apps, great screen
Cons: Expensive, poor cameras, WiFi only does not include a GPS receiver.

RE: super singles

There was a DP in the park for a few days that had 4 Super Singles in place of the 4 sets of duals in the rear. Did'nt get name. Gotta be a chore to find a replacement for a blown one out in the boonies.
Fronts were normal sized for the rig.If the rig was set up with dualies, the rear would have two axles with two tires on each. I have not seen any MHs with that set up but that does not mean they don't exist. The tag axle is almost always one tire on each side. Using two super singles on each side would give more carrying capacity than a normal three tires on each side. Interesting configuration.

RE: Virginia to add Tolls on I-95

Two Questions:
What percentage of the toll goes to the collection of the fee? In other words, is it more expensive to collect tolls than a gas tax?Is it in writing where the funds will go?General Funds for the StateRoad Funds for the stateFund for I95 only This could make a difference on whether the Interstate is kept maintained or not. The article was not clear on this subject, just mentions their intents.
