RE: Fuel Price Gouging

If you are traveling I-81 avoid buying gas in West Virginia. The station are always 20 Cents higher than the neighboring states of Maryland, Virginia, Pennslyvania. Currently (from Gas Buddy): PA (Greencastle/Chambersburg) $3.539 to $3.659 MD (Hagerstown) $3.559 to $3.599 WV (Martinsburg) $3.759 (stations stay in lock step - if one changes they all change. Always 20 cents higher than the higher of MD or VA) VA (Winchester) $3.459 to $3.499 (Harrisonburg) $3.089 to $3.359 The difference in price can not be accounted for by taxes as the rates are as follows: From Gas Price Watch (state taxes plus fees, plus the 18.4 cents-per-gallon (cpg) federal excise tax) PA $0.507 MD $0.419 WV $0.518 VA $0.386 Even though I live in this area, I try to buy all my gas in the neighboring states. I believ in supporting local bussinesses, but the local gas staions have been takening advantage for years.

RE: Overwhelmed by Backroads Mapbook -- need advice

I had not heard of Backroads Mapbooks before your post and after looking at there site they do seem to offer a good product though a bit expensive. I can not offer you any alternative other that Google Maps/Earth but wanted to pass on info on another product that may come in handy if you intend to hike much. National Geographic “Adventure Paper” Waterproof, Tear-tesistant, abrasion-tough, folds easily. Works with any inkjet printer and does not require any special inks. Adventure Paper

RE: Great price on Replacement CO Detector

The store site did not list specifications for the detector but I found them at another vendors site: Operating Environment: -40° F to +151° F; 15% to 95% RH (previous discussions concerning CO Alarms on this forum state that this alarm has the widest/highest operating temp. range) CO Sensitivity: Below 30 ppm no alarm 70 ppm alarm in 60-240 minutes 150 ppm alarm in 10-50 minutes 400 ppm alarm in 4-15 minutes (I have not research CO sensitivity) Golden_HVAC, thanks for pasting the link to the hardwired version.

Great price on Replacement CO Detector

First off, I am in no way affiliated with the manufacture, marketing, or sale of the following product or vendors. I am only offering info on an exceptional deal I found while looking for a replacement. Near the end of last season the Costar 9RV Carbon Monoxide Detector in our trailer began chirping occasionally. Replacing the 9V battery did not correct the problem. After researching the problem I came to the conclusion that the detector had failed and need to be replaced. A quick search with Google revealed that I was looking at at a $70 plus replacement cost. I temporarily replaced the unit with the corded CO Detector (with battery backup) from the house. This morning I resumed my search for a replacement detector and found prices from the mid 50s to over 100 for the detector. A last search turned up the manufacturer's store website where it is on-sale for $24. A replacement is now on order for a total of $29.30 with shipping and I felt that I should share this find with the other members of the forum. RE: 6 yr old desktop, should I add RAM, or buy a new computer

Make and model info on your current PC would help. This will help with determinaing maximum memory and available/type of expansion slots. 256 Meg is the bare minimum for that OS and I am suprised you haven't upgraded before now. I am guessing you are running XP and since you have only used 12 GB of 33 GB of harddrive space, it is used mainly for web/email and some document (word/excel) work. I would recommend the following: Backup any data files you have. Upgrade the memory to at least 1 GB. 2 GB if you can get a good price on it. Make sure all OS updates have been installed. If you are using Mcafee or Norton antivirus uninstall them and install Avast Freeand perform a full scan of the computer. (Avast is what I currently recommend, others may disagree) Download the free Glary Utilities and run everything under "1-Click Maintenance" except for "Track Eraser". Under the "Modules" tab, choose "Optimize and Improve" and run the "Startup Manager" You will have to make some choices here as to what actually needs to be in your startup. Generally the more red the less it is needed. If you right click each item you can search google for it and decide. At this point it will feel like you already have a new computer. Optional: Install a USB 3.0 card for around $25 (make sure it has drivers for your OS) You may reply or PM me if you have any questions. *** This post created on a Pentium 4, 2.8GHz with 2.0 GB of Ram (Homebuilt in 2003) ***

RE: Travel radius

I don't know of any one tool that will give you what you want. But How Far Can I Travel will give you an idea of what your range is. You can then open another Google Maps window, partially zoom in on say Dallas, type campgrounds in the search box and get view of all the campgrounds in the area. You will then have to research each campground till you find one you are happy with. The How Far Can I Travel url does not contain an identifier for kph/mph. After you open the page, you need to change it to miles, then click Search again.

RE: Best Route to Canaan Valley Resort

Unfortunately there is no route yet that does not involve some of West Virginia best curvy roads. When Corridor H is finished is will be much better. Rt. 50 to 93 is the shortest, fastest and flatest of the routes available. You can avoid some of the worst of 50 by taking 522 North from Winchester to 127 to 29. This will bring you out about 2 miles short of Augusta. This route has very few curves. The 219 route is considerable longer (hour +), you cross many more mountains, and sections of it could be compared to Rt. 50. You could take Rt. 50 to Gore then 259 to Wardensville and pick up the new Corridor H and take it all the way to it's current end at Knobley Road (County road, may not have lines) follow it for approximately 3 miles South to Route 42 then pick up 93 in Scherr. Which ever route you choose just take your time be careful. You can PM me if you have any questions.

RE: Lost River Campground, WV

I don't believe Lost River State park has a campground. It's day use and cabins only. You could stay at Trout Pond Recreation Area nearby. It's about a half hour drive to Lost River.

RE: Attaching lead to spark plug wire on hour meter

I believe I removed the back and left panels from the generator in order to access the spark plug wire. Here is a picture of where I mounted the meter on the front panel. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-9axm2W5M658/TfISmBgDqtI/AAAAAAAAALM/T5jPHOUeMR8/s144/100_0102.JPG width=640
