RE: Mailing address question

Been using Good Sam's Mail Service for a year even though we are just now getting ready to full-time. Their service is great - if you are somewhere for 4 or 5 days, you get on the website and fill out the form for one time mailing. They have a PO Box address and a street address you can use. It is Homeland Security compliant and there was something about the form you fill out for the Post Office that gives you address verification. I don't remember that part... they are very helpful when you call.

RE: satellite tv for fulltimers

DirecTv with a Wineguard dome.. great signal strength unless there is a tree in the way. If there is, we added a carry-out dome.
Any info on changing from a home based DirecTV account to an RV based account?
Thanks.

RE: **** Jury duty *****

In Dade County Florida, county jury summons are picked randomly from driver licenses. I am not sure about the rest of the state. There is a place on the back to respond and send back. The one to watch is Federal Grand Jury - that one requires a response. If you get picked for a Federal Grand Jury, it is once a week for 18-24 months, with probable extensions.

RE: Low Bridges - Avoidance!

I use a Garmin Nuvi 465. I programmed our heigth, weight, and length. In 10 months of use it has been great. Kept us out of a traffic circle in MD that would have been a disaster. Warned us about a low bridge that tunrned out to only be low in the break down lane.
It also give us a choice of car, truck alone and truck with trailer. I did not do any comparative research on the Rand McNally one. Garmin offered us $75 off a new model because our Street Pilot was no longer being supported.
Good luck..

RE: Used Toy haulers what should I avoid?

Don't count on factory support unless you research the company and make sure it is the same company that manufactured the 5th wheel. A number of manufacturers went out of business, but a new owner picked up the name and line. As a result the new owner is not providing warranty service to any models prior to the switch.

RE: KZ Inferno

Very happy with KZ.. on our second, thinking about a third. The factory is excellent. We have been there a number of times because we wanted to. Had them go over it, they found and repaired a leak on the bedroom slide. We are 3 years out of warranty but they did us right.
If you buy it, make sure you go by the factory and take the tour.

RE: Clean glass shower doors

Spray it with the cleaner stuff that turns blue.. scrubbing bubbles with oxy something in it. Comes in a spray can with a green top.

RE: Cyclone 3950 or Road Warrior 395?

We just looked at a 2012 CY300C in Florida, they want $58,900 loaded with w/d, satellite, etc etc with the Titanium nose. Mainly we went to see if we can tow it with a hauler, the answer is yes. There is about 12-15" between that upper nose and our headache bar. The paperwork says there is only r7 in the walls, anyone taken one north during the late fall or early winter? We just had our New Vision in Michigan and Wisconsin in November. 30 degrees was OK, 20's and below it struggled but with two electric heaters we got 5 days out of a tank of propane. Another thing I noticed is the storage underneath is almost non-existant. There is a little pass through that is about 18" wide. I would have to work to coil my 50amp cord that tight...
If you are interested in it, IM me I will give you the dealer info. They have it on consignment, the owner bought it, towed it once, had a disasterous trip, now wants rid of it. sad...

RE: If you were going on a factory tour..

I love factory tours!! Go to other factories so you can compare... If you are still in Indiana, go to KZ. The tours are on Tuesdays, given by the sales rep for your region. I did not ask if I could take pictures, forgot the camera. We went through after the line was shut down. The tour guide was frank, up front, answered all questions and did not push us through.
THEN go talk to the warranty service folks. See what they say.. which units come back more, which they never see.
good luck!

What RV do tall people have?

I am helping my cousin look for an RV, preferably one of the lighter tow-behinds, but he is 6'7" so he needs a bit more interior height. He fit nicely in my 5er but was hunched over in the bedroom section. Any suggestions??
Thanks.

RE: RV use during winter

I read all the posts on cold weather camping I could find before we left Florida for the frozen arctic north of PA, MI and WI. So far, the lowest temp we have survived is 18 degrees one night. Here are a couple of things we added to our stuff... we do have an arctic package, but I would call it a cold package - heat ducts to the tanks, single pane windows and double (as opposed to triple) insulation:
100 lb propane tank when we can, gas company or Lowes will help with the hose
heated water hose (drinking water certified) from Gemplers Supply
double layer of bubble wrap inside the windows (saw that on a post)
2 electric heaters
3 outdoor extension cords (gotta plug the truck in too)
Saw folks in Illinois took foam board, (roofing insulation board?) and wrapped the RV in it, from the ground to the bottom of the RV, including boxes for the drain hose and water hose.
When we don't have the 100 lb tank, we can make the 30 lb tanks last 5 days.
It has not been as bad as I thought it would be... good luck!

RE: Oh What to buy?

KZ RV is going to debut the Stone Ridge Toyhauler at the January RV show in Tampa - it is really nice - lots of gadgets, spacious, double payne windows, upped the r-factor in the insulation, but I think it is only a 12' garage. I think the price is in your range.

RE: Battery Replacement Question

5 years on a battery? You should buy a lottery ticket! I only got 3 years on an Optima - that is another story. What is your secret to such long battery life?

RE: Voltage 6 point leveling

Quadra has Big Foot Leveling System with 4 jacks. Each jack has its own hydralic motor. Remove 5er from truck, push auto button - done. It drops the rear jacks and levels out. You can also raise it high enough to get the wheels off the ground for repairs.

Get a 5er with double payne windows, and double insulation in the arctic package. I regret not getting that...

RE: dish alignment

You all are much smarter than I, I could not ever find the satellite. I spent the extra money at Camping World and got the push button model. We stop, unhook, level, hit button and magic machine finds the satellite.

RE: What to do about address change

We are on the verge of full-timing. Signed up with the Good Sam Mail forwarding service. The post office will forward my mail to Good Sam, but good old USPS does not forward everything, only certain classes of mail. Lovely, eh?
Good Sam has a PO Box and a street address. The PO box for everything and the street address for stuff that will not let you use a PO Box. They are pretty inexpensive too...
