RE: Adapting fifth wheel to single full-timing

Yes, The Cat is 15 and cranky. Having to use a leash and litter box again is not his cup of tea.
No question, Jim. Just sharing. Sorry I disturbed you.

Adapting fifth wheel to single full-timing

I'll be working in Show Low Arizona for 3 years, alone. DH is staying in Kino Bay, Mexico. (Yes, there'll be conjugal visits, it's only 12 hours away...)
SO much more room in here without HIS stuff! I'm a crafter, and my supplies and projects are no longer relegated to tubs in the basement. Plus the normal shared cubbies, shelves, spaces are ALL MINE!
ALL my shoes!
Hanging clothes uncrowded!
We left one of the recliners in the casita in Mexico, and I wanted a desk there instead. Now the table can be Craft Central permanently. This desk, chair, AND lamp were $40 at a used furniture store. And the window in front of my little notebook is 4 feet away from the apple tree and bird feeder.

RE: Dog food coming north into the US

I know the OP's looking for a concrete published directive on this, but like Moisheh said, it's a ****shoot.
They've taken our pet food every single time at Nogales, bar none. HOWEVER, they've allowed us to keep enough to feed them that night.
Maybe you could have some mailed to General Delivery at the Nogales post office, so it's waiting there for you?

RE: Caravan on the go...

We're expecting a caravan of 7 Class A's tomorrow at Western Horizons Kino Bay, escorted from Nogales by the Fairweathers. Starting to look like an RV park finally.

RE: Confiscation at the border

This week was the first time ever we've gotten a red light coming south at KM 21. Just the truck, we'd been to Tucson for a VA appt. The man looked into the cooler in the back (2 spiral hams and iced down beer) and then into the back seat (piles of Walmart shopping bags) and he asked "Comida?" (Food) We said "Si" and he said "Go!". Total conversation.

RE: Exchange rate

I think Pemex diesel was around 7 pesos per liter in 2005, and I'm paying nearly 10 now.

Our friends came through Nogales yesterday with their 1988 Class A and toad. No TIP to Bahia de Kino, just the 10 year sticker.

RE: Border Crossing for Sonora Free Zone

We just came home to Kino after a few months in Show Low, AZ. Truck only, no stop at KM21, and the Hermo airport detour was exactly as described in a post I saw elsewhere here: turn right on the mine road, left at the electrical station, right at the Famsa, left where it tees off, then watch for the sign to turn right "Bahia Kino and Airport". It's only a few blocks on that.

RE: Hiring a Housekeeper

Try your local Craigslist under "Services". I often see "No job too small" etc.

RE: Lets talk Alcoholic Drinks

Mojitos in Kino Bay Mexico
Fresh-squeezed lime juice, full shot (or more)
8 fresh mint leaves
Smash those up together in cocktail shaker. I use the handle of my fat wooden spoon.
Add a full shot of simple syrup (boil equal parts sugar and water 5 minutes, keeps forever in fridge)
Add two shots Bacardi.
Shake well and strain over tumbler filled with ice.
Top off with club soda and stir. If you're making a large batch, I like a ratio of 1/2 glass "concoction" and 1/2 glass club soda. Light and refreshing.
Hard to find fresh mint. Grocery stores often have tiny flats of fresh herbs in the produce aisle, but they become pricey after a while. My plants don't produce as fast as I decimate them...I have used both mint extract and dried mint (tied into a coffee filter and allowed to steep in rum overnight) but neither is as good as fresh. Plus I have to beware of getting SPEARmint instead of regular mint.
Another nuance to Mojitos concerns the sugar: some swear by raw cane sugar, but I prefer the simple syrup.
My family seems resentful that I can't/won't put the same effort into cooking food that I do mixing drinks...

RE: RV'ers on dialysis

I'm a dialysis nurse (for 34 years) and taught PD for a lot of those. All I know about generators (ours) is they run out of fuel unless you know how much you're using and fill it back up ahead of time. If you do run out, the cycler will keep your data and resume your program when you get'er running again. I cannot think of other reasons why cyclers and generators would be a bad mix.

And the best food on the planet. I personally am online at least 4 hours daily, and never miss an episode of anything I like thanks to HughesNet and DirecTV with East/West Coast feeds and TiVo. Hermosillo and great shopping is an hour away.
What's not to like? No See-Ums. Rattlers. Scorpions. Tarantulas. Stingrays. Wind. Too much sun. Of course, that's Mexico for you...
