RE: Our first cross country rv trip

I use tons of online sources to research CG's and MS Streets & Trips to plot my route.
I plan travel days to be around 300 to 400 miles.
I like reservations ahead of time even if it's only a day or two in advance to ease my mind knowing I have a place to park when I've reached my "goal" for the day.
Reservations can be very important if you want hook ups at very popular destinations such as Yellowstone.
You mention "make fast time" to and from CT. How much time do you have for this vacation? For me, anything less than 3 full weeks would be far too compressed to drive from CT - Yellowstone - Grand Canyon and back to CT.

RE: Driving in Big Cities

From your accounting, you've made 10 trips through major cities and not reported any problems. Seems you should be offering advice on big city driving to others.....

RE: Motorhome Fire kills 3

This is the second tire blowout accident in the past few days that resulted in death. Very sad indeed. The cause of death was clear on the earlier accident (impact). This one has me asking a few questions of curiosity.
How did the tire blow out lead to a fire?
Was there an impact that occurred after the blowout?
Did the right front tire disable the door?
Did the emergency window not work?
Any other windows large enough to get out?
Not looking for blame here. Just wondering about the cause of the fire beyond the tire blowout and solutions to survive such an incident.

RE: Class C vs Class B+

Seems like the modern interpretation of a B+ should really be a C -.
Rambling thoughts....
A C rig minus the cabover = C -
A B rig plus popped up roof = B +
A C rig with monster chassis and diesel = C +

RE: Sea eagle boats

Call me crazy, but isnt this forum for truck campers?
The OP has a truck camper. We all know many of the TC forum members are not very fond of outsiders. Many of the TC posts could easily fit into many of the other general RV'g categories.
True I do agree, but just because a person has a truck camper does not mean that you should post whatever you want in the forum. I would assume most people going thru this forum are looking for information having to do with truck campers, or something related to TC's or their P/U that is hauling the TC, or towing something with a TC installed. Not something about what a person thinks about a boat. I could understand if you were asking a question about towing a boat with a truck camper.
Many of us just use the Newest posting. Many of us non TC owners where owners, have a half dozen friends with TC's, or even lived in one for a few months. So we do have some valid knowledge of TC's. Most of my family and friends are RV'rs, my neighbors are RV'rs. DP's, 5'rs, C's, B's, TT, TC's, and pups are all represented. There are many great TC posts that have nothing to do with TC's specifically that can be applied to many other types. TC'rs write great trip reports that many of us enjoy greatly. Lots of good boondocking ideas.
Back to the subject....
Sea Eagle boats are highly rated. Was on the fence for awhile on a Sea Eagle canoe but went with a ridgid one. I have a class II inflatable raft for river floating that goes on the RV roof.

RE: To join or not to join...that is the question

The newish Zone Pass annual system from TT appears to be a reasonable option with no long term membership lock in. If I could camp more frequently to justify the expense, I'd give the zone pass a go just to check out new CG's and areas.

RE: Ford F-150 eco-boost MPG

The non-towing MPG and HP / torque ratings are impressive for the EB engine in a full size truck. I'm still a little skeptical about engine longevity when towing 10K over hill and dale. only time will settle my skeptical leanings. It does appear to be reliable out of the gate at least. It's one expensive truck though.

RE: How long is too long? re: length of TT

We somehow survived 10 years with a 22 foot non slide unit with no dedicated kid spaces, tv, or game system. The more comfortable and convenient the TT is, the less likely they will be spending time outside. I just can't imagine the "need" for 34 foot TT used only a handful of times a year. If your family had to live in a TT, then I could see how a huge TT would be useful.

RE: North Cascades HWY 20 vs Hwy 2

Both are great scenic roads. I'd take 20.
Make short stops at:
Winthrop

Take the short path for some amazing views from the Washington Pass rest area

Hike down to Ross Lake Dam. Trail is about 1 mile each way and moderately steep.

RE: Snow on slides OK?

Will you be living in the trailer all winter? If not, I'd bring the slides in just to reduce the exposure to the elements.

We picked one up at WalMart on Maui for less than $20 a few years ago. Should be able to find some available in a popular beach town.

RE: Campgrounds in Island Park, Idaho

While I'm sure Island Park is a fine area for camping, You'll be driving a huge amount. 60 miles each day just to get to West Yellowstone and back each day.
Island Park to West Entrance 29 miles
Island Park to Old Faithful 60 miles
Island Park to Mammoth 75 miles
just for comparison sake.
Fishing Bridge to Old Faithful 41 miles
Fishing Bridge to Mammoth 47 miles

RE: Cross-Country Trip - What do I need to know?

By the way, this is a brand new trailer. So less than 250 miles on it.
Thanks!
It's the "brand new" ones that usually have the most problems.
You can't really plan perfectly for a trip like that...what comes up along the way is part of the adventure.
My brand new trailer was on a tow truck back to the factory after a serious electrical failure on the way home during it's second trip (about 400 miles traveled). Sign up for sevevice like AAA plus RV, Good Sam, etc. as towing a trailer is mighty darn expensive.

I would recommend Diamond Lake RV Park but the north entrance road is still closed as of this mornings road report. Next best options would be along hiway 62. Maybe Lost Creek Lake
