RE: Is the used RV market really that soft?

When researching for comparable prices. Note how long the units have been on the market. Most likely they are the ones not selling.
My TV & TT did not garner any interest at what appeared to be a “competitive” price. After weeks I dropped the price of each by several thousand and they sold with in a week.

RE: Planning very first trip to Alaska, need advice...

I started my trip May 9, 2006. As I recall the first day or two out of Dawson Creek were not that bad. It took me five days to get from Dawson Creek to Tok, AK. I was driving a F250 pulling a heavy TT. I am sure you will want to go slower.
Reviewing my pictures of the trip, the last of those five days from Destruction Bay to Tok are numbered with “hell road” after the number, fwiw.
Buy fuel when ever you can. The Mile Post may say the next station is not that far up the road. But it may be closed or out of business. The frost heave flags on the side of the road are your friends, heed them.
If I do the trip again I would take I90 to I15. Faster and cheaper than going up to Winnipeg like I did. Many years ago I found I94 very tiring to drive.
Have a fun safe trip.

RE: Goping solo

Don, I am sorry for your two losses. I know some of your pain. My wife died after thirty six years of marriage and it was all hard. After several years I started to RV travel with my dog all over.
I have found my hound “Kate” is the best greeter when on the road. There is always something missing for awhile. But there are so many wonderful people to meet out there the any trip is worth it.

RE: Newbie Question about Water

The one time you go to a campground and the water smells and looks bad you will wish you had more or a full tank of fresh water.

RE: fizzy water

I have seen that at campgrounds when filling the dog’s water bowl from the campground spigot. The air bubbles disappear fairly fast. Never worried about it. If it stayed cloudy that would concern me very much.

RE: What was your biggest challenge?

OP, glad you are having fun here.
My biggest challenge was a wrong turn on “Yellow Head” highway in Canada. I had to make a turn around via a farmer’s stock walk. This is MILES from anyone.

RE: Weber Smokey Joe Gold?

Hum, my old Smokey Joe has no vents in the bottom. It does have a handle to lift it up when hot that also locks the lid for storage.
So it must be the current “Gold”.
It is the best for one or two people traveling. You can bake an acorn squash or grill corn and tatter on it and then do your meat of preference after ten or so minutes of heat up with the lid off.
What I really like is after cooking, you lock the lid on it. Close the side vents and you can put it back into the truck bed in about an hour. The un-used coals can be lifted out on the bottom grate the next time you use it and the ashes are easily dumped into a fire pit.
Also, fire hazard is minimal. There is nothing getting blown out of the bottom.
The epitome of the KISS principal.

RE: Newbie question- Possibly buying a 2007 Fun Finder X 189FBR

I had a 2005 189FBR (first TT). The only problem I had was the linoleum floor buckled during the first winter. Well we do get real cold up here in Wisconsin. The buckle was at a seam of the sub floors.
Other than that a great little trailer. The gaucho gave you so much room in the galley area. I needed more bathroom area so I traded up.

RE: To Do List Before Leaving

After disconnecting everything. The last thing I do is check that the turn signal lights are working on the TT. That forces me around the TT one more time. As I travel alone, I can not test the brake lights but knowing the turn signals are working gives a sense of confidence.
I have learned to check the steps and antenna several times.
Inside I always make sure the fridge has switched to LP and the water pump and the LP switch on the water heater are off.

RE: Propane detector going off

Last fall I had this problem and took the unit apart. I cleaned off the dead spider and some other stuff on the circuit board. Put it back together and all is well. I will test it somehow before I go out this year.
I am thinking ham & beans….:)

RE: My plans re. City water at a campsite.

I never hook up to city water. I travel with a full fresh water tank. I filter the water going into it. The pump is turned on when I need water.
The few times the dog would not drink the local water after traveling six hours. I just filled the tank at the next CG.
This works for me.

RE: New Trailer & Squeaky components

Driving straight down the road with a greased hitch ball and greased WD torsion bar sockets there really should be no noise from the hitch. Now with a friction sway bar you will get noise turning at low speeds and that is good. Just remember to back off the sway bar brake when entering campgrounds so you do not get funny looks as you turn, been there, done that. :R

RE: POTLUCKS

Campin’Deb, right on! But try adding a thin sliced onion plus a pealed and cored thin sliced apple instead of sugar. Oh, also a FULL can of beer! :) One can use seared but not cooked brats instead of Kielbasa also.
Ya hey der!

RE: East Coast Fall Tour ME to CT

I did that trip in 2006. I started the trip in mid September.
Spend a couple of days in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. Sampson SP made a nice base camp but they were the only place I have been too that asked for proof of rabies shots. Lots of things to see in the region.
I travel without an itinerary and stop when there is something of interest to see or do. Acadia NP held my attention for a whole week. Lots of campgrounds in the area. Someday I will see the rest of the park & Maine. Oh, a second vote for Trents Lobster Pound, lobster as good as it gets.
Coming home I found fewer and fewer private campgrounds open as October approached.

RE: Water hose question

Grayghost03
Thank you, you put in perspective. Water running through a garden hose is safe as long as you run enough water through the hose before you put it to other uses. The same is true for campground spigots sticking out of the ground. In the summer, if the water coming out is warm, keep the spigot open till the water is cold.
If that does not happen move to another place.

RE: Newbie Q: How Do I Plan My Day

As was suggested, camp in the driveway if at all possible. I would suggest a good first place for you to “camp” may be Paul Wolff Campground close to Elgin. Take the car and drive through the place. I use it as my base when visiting the kids.
