RE: Faxing on the Road

How many pages is her timesheet? If less than 5 pages, then one option is to use a free service such as FaxOrama.com. Just scan and save her timesheet(s) in one of the supported graphic formats, I prefer .PNG because it uses lossless compression. Once you attach the timesheet file, it's then converted and faxed to the recipient. The Free service limits you to a maximum of two faxes sent per day. You might want to give it a test try.

RE: Using an Internet Stick ???

What do you mean by an "internet stick"? Is this a Wireless Data(i.e. 3G) and which carrier, or a WiFi USB adapter? Have you tried doing a basic line quality and speed test at Pingtest.net and Speedtest.net

RE: Multi-use gadget: Backup mirror/radio/engine analyzer

You may want to take a look at the Navion 5000 which combines CD/iPOD entertainment center, rear/side view camera system, engine data, gps, and tire pressure monitoring. American Coach uses them.

RE: using firefox on PC

I find the e-mail program not as sophisticated as AOL's but certainly suitable.
Just curious as to which email program in Firefox? :h If referring to Mozilla Thunderbird(TB), I would handedly disagree. I've been using TB for more than five years, and few if any email client can match it's versatility including Outlook. I use TB to manage all my email accounts including biz domain name, and free email accounts from GMail, AOL, and Yahoo. Using TB's Lightning Calendar and contact extensions, I have all my computers auto. sync/backup with multiple calendars and contacts including with my iPOD Touch using free Google Sync services. I actually use a separate calendar for tasks such as for bills, which overcomes Google's current task sync limitations. This also allows "synced" tasks to be displayed within one calendar itself, in a different color for instance. Google currently will only sync one calendar per account, so you basically open another free GMail account and share that calendar you need synced. You can also sync multiple calendars, tasks, and contacts in one account by using Dropbox to keep TB profiles in sync between different computers. This also backups/syncs your emails automatically. And best of all, these apps and services are free!

RE: Craig's list. Best site to store pix so I can make a link?

Another option that may not be so obvious for hosting photos online is using a free Dropbox account. Basically, Dropbox is an online file sync/backup storage site that has a "public" folder which allows direct links to content with no file type, size, or set bandwidth limits. The free account gives you a minimum of 2GB of FREE online storage space, more than a free Photobucket account, and all uploads to Dropbox servers are sent via SSL.
The most convenient way to upload content to Dropbox servers is to install their app on each computer you want access to your photos. Dropbox creates a folder on your computer that is automatically kept in sync with its servers. And you can easily access the Dropbox folder anytime by clicking the icon located in your lower task bar.
To upload photos for use on Craigslist, you just drag and drop them individually or create a separate folder containing your photos into your computer's Dropbox "Public" folder. You now have a local copy of your photos which can be accessed whether you have a net connection or not, plus a copy which was auto. uploaded to Dropbox. All your other computers with the Dropbox app will also have the same photos available both locally and remotely once allowed to sync.
To get your photos direct url link for use in Craigslist or on any website, just right-click the specific file in the Dropbox Public folder, select "Dropbox," and click "Copy Public Link," and it will be auto. copied into your computer's clipboard. To remove any photo from Dropbox's servers, just delete them or move them off the Public folder locally. Just one caveat, make sure to use the "Public" folder and not the "Photo" folder in Dropbox which is intended to generate a photo gallery, and does not provide individual url links to photos within that folder. :)

RE: using firefox on PC

Firefox has been my favorite browser now for many years. It has well over 4,000 addon extensions which makes it the most versatile browser available. I've actually set Chrome as my default OS browser, only because my install of Firefox is setup to prompt for a password at startup, so a minor delay in accessing the web from startup. Chrome is quicker to load when opening an ad link in an email for instance, but I generally have both Firefox and Chrome running simultaneously. BTW, most IE compatibility issues with websites can be addressed by installing an extension in Firefox, which displays IE content in a separate tab, so no need to fire up IE in most cases.

RE: Best personal webpage host/creator?

From what you have described, I would also recommend a blog. You don't really have to worry about the design aspects with most blog sites, that is unless you want to, and can concentrate on the content. As mentioned, I would also recommend looking at Blogger.com for a free blog site. If you already have a GMail account, you already have an unlimited no. of blogs, with no set bandwidth limitations. Just log into Blogger with your GMail account, name your blog(i.e. yourname.blogspot.com), select a template and make any layout changes to it, add any features or widgets you like, and your ready to go. You can literally be up and running in as little as a few minutes.
Blogger.com has also made some improvements over the past months, including adding new templates along with an improved template designer, and the ability to backup your blog locally(export). You can even use a custom domain name(i.e. yourname.com), by making a few configuration changes with your registry account to point to your blogger site. I've done this for some blogger.com sites I've setup, and it works quite well. I've also noticed that Google's search engine picks up on the custom domain fairly quickly in search results. People can still access your blog from your old blogger name, as it's merely redirected to your domain name(i.e. yourname.blogspot.com --> yourname.com).

RE: American Chopper TV Show is finished

I like the show until vince left and I beleive it really took a turn south when Jr and Sr could not focus on what brought them the fame. I still like the custom bikes they built for the fireman and Airmen and appreciate their desire to honor each. While we could always have a negative perspective on why the show is off the air, there were a few times when the show focused on others that they got along the most.
I also stopped watching when Vinnie left the show, and didn't know about all the recent drama involving Paul Jr. firing, Paul Sr. lawsuit, show cancellation, and new Jr. vs. Sr. show. But that's why TLC produced the show in the first place and what attracted its' audience, the drama involving the characters, not actually the bikes itself. And also likely the reason TLC cancelled the original series, as it was losing its' drama factor with most of the principle cast gone. I doubt Paul Sr. had anything to do with the cancellation, as he also likely needs the show, as does Paul Jr. It is about free advertising, but also about their share of the revenue generated from the show itself. These types of shows generate a lot of revenue from worldwide licensing and syndication rights, and it wouldn't surprise me that the American Chopper principles share in those revenues to a certain degree. It was reported that the late Steve Irwin "Crocodile Hunter" made close to $200 Million from worldwide licensing of his shows. And also likely the reason both Paul Sr. and Paul Jr. agreed to participate together in the new show, unless this is all some type of elaborate publicity stunt, is that in the end, it is about the money.

RE: Those horrible blue Booby Traps in Postings

ADBlock Plus(ABP) is currently my favorite for blocking text link ads. You can also use it to block Forum/Blog popups by adding custom filters here. You'll need to install the ABP extension or its' variations on each browser. That's one advantage that modifying a Host file has for sending third party ads to a "black hole." It will work with any browser, but since its' domain based, it can't be used to block the Forum's popups as you would also be blocking access to the Forums itself. At least, I haven't found a method using Host files to block these specific popups.

RE: "Don't Be a Lurker"

I have ADP. That's OK blocking outside ad's, but not this.
I wrote two custom filters for AdBlock Plus(ABP) for both Firefox and Chrome which will block the Forum and Blog popups. Just go into Firefox's ABP Preferences, click the "Add Filter..." button, and add these filters in bold(copy and paste):
For Forum's "Lurker" Popup:*/SharedCode/javascript/*
For Blogs "Sign Up" Popup:*/lightpop/scripts/lightbox.js
You should no longer see those popups.

RE: Need PDF Editor

What do you mean by editing the PDF form? I would think it would be just as easy to edit a document using whatever application you want, then saving it in PDF format. You may also want to take a look at the freeware Bullzip PDF Printer. Besides PDF, it will also save documents in other graphic formats. I save many of my receipts in PNG format as it uses lossless compression and can be displayed by any web browser. Plus, it doesn't require a separate reader or browser plugin.
If you just need the ability to add notes, comments, or add text in a PDF form not designed to be fillable, then the freeware reader PDF-XChange Viewer will do that. It's the free PDF reader I recommend on my websites. Another online PDF editor that you may want to look at is pdfescape.com. The site is also useful if you want to turn any existing PDF document "form fillable" by any reader such as Adobe, Foxit, or PDF X-Change Viewer. This type of feature is generally only made available in paid versions of PDF writers/editors. It does place a 2MB max file size limit.

A Simple Way to Avoid the Forum/Blog Popups!

And it works with all the major browsers such as IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera, with no special addon extensions needed! Plus, you don't need to be logged in or be concerned whether your browser cookies are still set not to bring up the popups. Just follow a simple one-time procedure when you visit the Forums/Blogs:
When you "first" visit any Forum page or Blog page, just use the keyboard combo CTRL+R on a PC immediately after the "first" page finishes loading in your browser. All this does is "reloads" the current page, but because of the way the Forums/Blogs popup's are designed to work, the "check" cookie has been already been set, so you won't see the popups on your current or any other page! You can also use the CTRL+R trick if the popup already appears, such as the Blog's Sign Up popup which appears fairly quickly after a Blog page loads for the first time. Saves from using your mouse to physically close the popup. You only need to do this on the first page you visit on the Forums or the Blogs.
There are of course other methods including member's logging in to their account as soon as you first visit the Forum's. Or otherwise, using a specific browser addon extensions with filters to block these popups, but this is another simple method that can be used by anyone. I though I'd share this info. as I was asked about this not too long ago, and the subject of the popups have been brought up in several very vocal posts in the past.

You can also upload your photos to sites like TinyPic.com (owned by Photobucket) or ImageShack.us without having to open an account and without bandwidth limits per se.
