If we keep the conversation about the gun part cordial and linked to RV'ing, the thread will likely remain open. I am betting that the Moderator is a busy guy deleting comments that are not contributing to longevity.

Hate to break it to the "loud pipes save lives crowd" but the noise you create to "ride safer" is something that gets there after you do. There is zero evidence that being a nuisance, and creating irritating noise, is beneficial to your safety in any way.

Right you are! Well said.

If it's your dream to haul a hog to AK and ride then let er rip. In 99.9999% of the state there won't be no one around to hear it or care about the noise anyway.
Personally I'd replace that with a dual sport bike, quad or utv to experience Alaska.
As far as packin across the border, that's been beat to death, but I can tell you there are people who do it every day. Weigh the risk vs the perceived need. If you do, hide it well!

My neighbor is a complete Harley freak. If it doesn't say Harley he doesn't have it and of course he has straight pipes (so everyone will know he's on his Harley). He too a trip last year of about 600 miles one way and on the way back he left his ear plugs in the motel. When he got home he could barely hear so naturally I started talking real low to him. I tried to convince him to put the mufflers back on, to no avail. He got a new set of ear plugs now and carries a spare but still has the straight pipes! You just can't fix stupid!!

Oh God, yes...bring it into Canada and hide it really really well. Makes my day, reading about another idiot that figured to fool the CBP folks. Then they cry and cry..."I forgot"...funny tho..no one ever says the clowns on RV.Net told me I should just 'hide it'. Maybe, if I am patient and live long enough, I'll read that, too.

And if reading what I typed makes your blood boil...why? People smuggling stuff into the US is okay, right?
