DW and I were driving our mini MH today on I-75S, from Macon to I-10. Wall to wall snowbirds. We saw 4 or 5 trailers pulled over with blowouts. One was a horse trailer, one was a smallish utility/ car hauler behind a MH, and two or maybe three fivers. One of the fivers had passed us a while before. We were going 65, he was probably a bit over 70. The man was out looking at the tire. His wife was a couple hundred yards ahead walking on the shoulder, with no exit ahead for miles. I didn't see her in time to stop and offer assistance. DW said maybe she was just walking instead of arguing about how she told him to buy tires this year. [emoticon]

I felt bad for all of them. Maxxis should be printing money, but I don't think they realize the opportunity they have.

Yep.......

DW "Honey should we get tires before this trip?"
DH "Don't need no tires for this trip they only have 5000 miles on them"
DW "Yeah I know but I heard if they are over 5 yrs. old they could be bad"
DH "OH..something you read on that forum....HAW!"

DH "OH shoot....dang tire blew"
DW "I'm going for a walk....let me know when you get that spare on. Never mind that spare is older. I'll see if I can find a place we can get new tires"
DH "Mumble, mumble, mumble..........."

Oh yeah..this is going to be a good trip [emoticon]

And of course, the fact that he was going over 70 MPH (if that is indeed a fact) have nothing to do with his blowout.

Maybe, maybe not. Would only be a guess. Some tires are rated at 75mph such as XPS Ribs for instance.

TPMS only catch about 50 percent of the tire problems before it is to late. The other fifth percent is just an alarm that the tire is in a million pieces.

I never see anybody checking tire pressures at camp grounds. My guess is that a lot of us don't check them at home either.

I check mine before I ever hook up even if I'm just driving around the block. Tires are something I absolutely do not ignore and they are replaced when they age out, which for me is no more than 5 years. Currently running my 5'er on 4 brand new G614's installed May 2013.

My brother in law thinks I'm crazy for replacing tires "with all that tread left". Of course he is the one who sent his wife off in their Suburban on a 2,000 mile trip a few years ago with the steel cord showing on one tire. "But it had plenty of tread and it was holding air".

I had to convince my wife that we needed to replace the 5 year old Marabombs (by the date stamps) on our new/old Monty by showing her all the horror stories posted on several forums. She still wasn't happy about it, but after 5k trouble free miles on LTs, I sure am.
