I-77, Exit 36, Mooresville,NC has a Cracker Barrel on the west side of the exit with RV parking spots and there is a Wal-Mart on the east side of that exit and south of the cross highway.

I have stopped in both over the years when making our many flying trips from PA to somewhere in the south. Usually just a few hours of sleep and back on the road, but try to use the restaurant or the store for meals or supplies.

Leaving this exit and heading further south is better if you do so early before the commuter traffic picks up so you can buzz right through Charlotte.

We stayed at a WM once, nice, quiet, clean. Next morning DW said "the store is almost empty, I'll only be a minute." $147.00 later we were back on the road. Last overnight at WM.

We use campgrounds when we camp. We stay at state, national, private and federal.

No parking lots for us.

Is it OK to deploy your slides while staying overnight at WalMart?
Just wondering.

IF I can park on an edge, I will deploy the slides on the edge - IF it is a level parking lot

SO - sometimes yes and sometimes no

VFW? That would seem to be out of line.

Sorry to be a little off topic, but what are the rules to stopping in a Walmart or Kmart parking lot? Can one stop at any? Being new to the RV world I just started to hear about this.

Alegedly the original founder of WM was an RVer so he allowed or encouraged travelers to park overnight,,good busines decision imho

My wife and I have done about 180,000 miles back and forth across the country staying mostly in Walmart lots hundreds of times over 16 years. We have been booted exactly once in all that time, from Homestead, Fl. Their security guard apologized and gave us directions to a nearby Publix that allowed overnight parking.

One other time a Las Vegas area Walmart security guard suggested that we move to a different store ten miles away because his store "had a lot of crime".

We love Walmart!!

If I remember correctly the Walmart in Elkins is about 12 miles west of I77. It is very hilly to get there. We stayed there one night. They have you park at the other end of the parking lot away from the store. There are a couple places to eat also.
