Anyone traveling to Alaska in 2014? We ,my wife and I, are planning a trip and was wondering if anyone is planning on going in 2014 also.
Would go this year, except we have two weddings to go to in MI, one in late June the other in early August.
So next year we are planning to leave home in NC in mid July, we plan a 2 month trip. We were there in 2004, only that time we were with paid RV tour. Loved it, and would take another paid tour in a 'heart beat', but the cost is now too much.
The reason for the mid July date is looking at the 2013 Alaska postings the wx, road conditions and insects are at their worst. Later in the season all three are better. Plus I want to travel back on the Cassiar Hwy in Sept is supposed to be the best time of the year on the Cassiar, plus less travelers.
Finally, money is an issue with us. So we will 'boon dock', stay at
free or low cost CG's, rest areas, etc. when ever possible.

Hope you all have a great trip and hope to see you some where along the way.

Sounds great. Driving to Alaska has been a dream of mine since I was a teenager; I'm now retired, so it's about time. My wife and I did a quick one week trip three years ago that just built up our appetite.

What are your plans, as of now? We are in Little Rock, AR. I've been following a walk-about group starting in Banff on June 1, planning on 2.5 months to slowly make the trip.

We are the proud owners of a new (to us) 94 Falcon class B on a Dodge. It's in great shape, and will be in better shape by this time next year.

Hi - I have mapped out a 2 month trip. That is from home - Alaska - back home. We live in NC. Since money is an issue with us, we plan to 'boondock' and stay in state, county, provincial campgrounds as much as possible. I have checked with a couple of RV campgrounds and their overnite rates are $40 +-. Our route is basically up the Alaska hiway and back down the Cassiar hwy.
I know that 2014 is a long time away and way too many things can happen before then and all plans can change. I guess that is why they are called 'plans'.
Thanks for your reply and good luck to you on your trip.

Hi-Money will be an issue with us, too. I'm sure gas will be the big expense. I haven't boondocked in a long time, and my wife never has. But, to save money, we will adapt.
I've been thinking more in the line of three months, but my wife is now saying that's too long.
Thanks for getting back, and good luck to you too on your trip. Maybe we can work something out over the next 13 months.

We have thought of the trip also. Our daughter has since moved to Alaska with the military, and thought about making the trip north. We are in Michigan. There made the drive there in April during there transfer. Took 9 days without more then a 1 night stop.

Hello - well we will be in Alpena for our grandson's wedding in late June and then again in early August for our grand daughters wedding. As you have probably read we are planning a trip for next year. Way to far out to make any definite plans. The only thing for sure is that money is an issue with us, so we will try to cut back expenses by boon docking (Wal-mart, rest areas, etc) and using state/fed campgrounds where ever possible. Fuel of course will be the biggest expense.
Good luck to you on your trip, maybe we can get together.

We are also planning to be in Alaska next summer. We hope to cross near Vancouver around May 15 and cross back near Glacier National Park around August 31. We plan on boondocking as much as possible. Due to our different timing, we may not be able to caravan with you, but maybe we will run into each other a time or two.
