Last summer, one of my kids had good intentions and sprayed OFF insect repellant all around/on the door to our coach. I'm not sure how to describe what it looks like after he did this, but it is VERY noticeable and looks like a bunch of oily stuff that you would think could be wiped off with a bit of soap and water.
It is the plexi-glass/plastic little sliding window part where the discoloration/staining/spotting is very noticeable. We tried scrubbing it with soap and water and couldn't seem to make any progress on it. Not sure if there is something about the ingredients of OFF that would chemically react with the plexi-glass or not.
I guess I'm wondering if any of you guys have ever run across this sort of thing? We aren't too bothered by it, but it is VERY noticeable and I would think there ought to be something that would clean it up.
Any similar experiences? Thoughts anyone?

Off! contains heavy oils that attacked the Plexiglas surface. That's why the stuff is greasy on your skin. (For me, it's a love/hate relationship - the mosquitoes are worse than the greasy Off!, so it wins)
The best bet would be Gel Gloss and a buffing wheel on a drill. It will be some work, and the surface erosion might be too deep. If it is, then it's time to have a glass place make a new piece of plexi for the door. It isn't that expensive, but might be a PITA to get the door apart to swap the plexi pane out.

Replacement screen door slides only cost around $10 or so. It might be simpler to just replace it.

I sprayed a portable battery powered lamp used on the picnic table while camping.
It just sort of melted the surface of the plastic lens. No fix'in that.

Yup. We had a battery powered florescent lantern that was covered with bugs. The easy solution was to spray it with a shot of Off. It ruined the clear plastic piece that goes around the bulb. Lesson learned.

Buff it with toothpaste! Yep, toothpaste has has polishing compounds in it that is great for motorcycle windshields, headlamps, and compact discs, or anything else that is plastic and supposed to be transparent.

Do you think something like Armor All, which makes plastics shiny (and slippery) would mask it ??

Buy a new one. You can even get different colors or clear. But make sure you get the right size!

Ace hardware here sells a compound called amaze. it is used to clean glass of hard water and other tough stains. it is not expensive and It sure took the hard water stains off my TT windows. you will have to use a little elbow grease, but it worked for me. it might just work on the off spray. Oh yes, DW used it in shower stall for soap build up too.

We added Lexan sheets to our screen door to use AC without leaving the door closed all the time. Accidently sprayed insect repellant on it , and had the same effect. We have tried averything except the buffing compound with no success yet. However, its not that bad, and replacing it is pretty cheap. One of these days...
