I stayed at a campground for a week. Got the weekly rate.

A couple days before leaving a new neighbor showed up and said something about being charged for electricty on the weekly rate.

No one, at any time, said anything about an additional charge for electricity. And didn't read anything in the paper work about the charge.

I now see on my credit card an additional charge for $31. Haven't called them yet.

Is it right for them to have charged me without my consent?

Yep, actually drove to all of these places---in the last eight years. Missed Rhode Island and New Jersey.

If you didn't agree to it then I would dispute it with the CC company.
Besides, thats the first time I've ever heard of being charged extra for power with only a one week stay. It certainly is not customary.

What's the name of the campground? Did it have a meter on the power pedestal?. And that seems like a lot for just 1 week.

What was the name of the rv park, and what did the check-in or reservation form say? What does the website say? $31 seems a lot for one week of electricity.

Was it on the bill when you signed or OK'd the credit card receipt?

The park is a very nice park in southern California.

I got three things with my name on it. A credit card receipt, a computer generated form with dates and sites number for the RV window, and a small hand written card for the vehicle window. No "registration" form.

I read through the rules--no mention of it. No mention on the website.

Yes, there was a meter. And I probably did use quite a bit of electricity.

The neighbor said they were told to expect a charge of probably less than $20.

If there was a meter, how are you to know what it was when you first got there? It seems that they didn't give you any numbers for the start of the meter use, or even later, but rather just picked a number to charge you. Quite underhanded if you ask me.

I would make a note of it with RVParkReviews.com. I'd also write to the CG owner, and explain how you felt that you were wronged. It may not do much, but maybe they will do a better job of making folks aware. Often those little index card size signs that they have posted on the back wall, or under the counter glass, don't get read.

At the very least, they should have something on their website.

Contest it with your CC company.

Several folks asked what CG this was, and I guess you don't want to say bad things about them....and name them too Saying it's a very nice CG, but then complaining about it, doesn't make sense. You can still say that they were well maintained, etc....but this was an issue....and I would hope that many of these CGs read these forums, to help improve their places......so why not post the name?

Yep. Call the credit card company. Tell then you did not authorise the charge.
