Already expensive, so what's $5.00 more? Hard to agree with that statement. It would all be so much easier if they would just set the price and not mention the additional charges, that is what usually gets people upset. We don't want to pay for the playground or dog walk, that should be part of what sets the RV site rates. Keep it simple.
It's $5.00 a night, what's the big deal and two KOA's I've been to a few times don't hide it they told me when I made my reservations. Once again it's $5.00, if that ruffles your feathers you do need to move on to Walmart, pretty sure there are no swings, pools, arcades in the parking lot. I'll gladly pay the $5.00 and enjoy everything they have to offer. Maybe you could design your own cg and for every activity there would be a different color wristband, me and my kids would have an arm full!

KOA is always pushing their discount card. Is the discount card good for 10% off the resort fee?

No, it isn't. We used to stay at KOA's all the time. I have seen serious decline in many of them but certainly not all of them. I kind of wondered if it was due to the economy.

The Astoria Oregon one mentioned early in this thread was an absolute pit. They added on fees for a resort fee, dog fee, extra car fee, extra person fee (there were 4 of us and we had to pay extra for 2) and they put us next to the dumpster. When all said and done they charged over $80 for one night. They also added a 13% tax, even to the items that are not taxable in Oregon. The rest rooms were disgusting, the pancake breakfast was not edible, and the trash compactor was working late into the night and before 7 in the morning- right next to our site.

It was summer and a weekend night so we didn't have options that night, but rather than stay for the week as we had planned, we got the heck out of there the next morning. By the way, we were quoted $50 a night when we made the reservation, but when they got done adding on it was more than $80.

Management didn't care and neither did the corporate office. That was the straw that broke the camels back. We traveled across country and stayed at several KOA's, some were good, some were just ok, but the Astoria one was the only one that we felt totally ripped off.

A resort fee is just a way to charge more, there isn't anything they offer that other campgrounds don't offer.

Rant over....

We will never stay in one again. Last one we stayed at after checking in we were informed the pool was closed because of a private party, so couldn't use the pool, but were charged full price for the site. The cable connection was horrible and the truck noise from the hiway was so bad we could have been parked at a truck stop. Overpiced for what you get. The one we stayed at before the last one had sites that were so uneven we couldn't get level and the place was not well maintained at all. No KOA for us anymore!

your post would be more beneficial if you would identify the two KOAs you had issue with. then we could evaluate your complaints and avoid them if we are in agreement. I have checked thru my campground database before and found that the overwhelming majority that I have stayed at I give a positive review to. but I am not the type that would pull into a truck stop and try to sleep next to idling diesels.

We've stayed in several KOA's. We enjoyed them all. We have a child and we took advantage of the pool, the playground, bouncy pillow, movies, free popcorn, arts and crafts, and etc. Most campgrounds don't offer as much for kids as many KOA's do. The only additional fee that we have encountered at the KOA's we have stayed at, was a pet fee. While KOA's are generally higher priced than others, they do offer a lot. The great thing is that this is a free country and you don't have to stay in any of them!

Hi All.

Well, we don't know what to tell you. But we have been RV'ers for 45 years now, and so far we have never, ever, stayed in a "KOA Campground", and never plan on it, either. Just to many "Horror Stories" over the years to suit us. If you read it, and didn't like it, move on to some where else, that deosn't have weird charges. Campgrounds can and do charge what ever they feel like, but as RV'ers, we sure don't have to pay it, if we don't like it. Thats the Beauty of Owning a Self-Contained RV in the first place. Don't like a place, move on to some where else. We have never had a problem in all of these years finding a place to park for the night, and most of that has been for free. We also hardly ever make Reservations either. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

4 KOA`s here! Billings and Butte MT, Rochester/Marion MN and Chattanooga West KOA. out of those 4 I would maybe stay at 2 Chattanooga west and Rochester/marion. not very good percentages IMO. on the other hand....we stay at alot of Yogi`s and there has not been one I wouldn`t return to.....that would be 9. and a bunch of other stand alone campgrounds, all of which were good to excellent with the exception of Crazy Horse in WI.

I forgot to plug my local KOA ( Fredericksburg, Va. ) very nice place to stay.... nothing fancy but the staff is very friendly and the cg is well kept. Small fishing pond and playground, we always have a good time here.

Currently a KOA member, however if the $5 "resort fee becomes commonplace, I will not renew. When I stay at a KOA, I have never used anyhting but the campsite. IMO, better option is for them to charge those that are using the additional amenities otherwise it is a rate increase in disguise.
