Has anyone else received the below-quoted "mass mailing" sounding advertisement (aka SPAM) in their P.M. inbox????
This is to register my very strong objection to what I perceive to be a breach of the Site's rules against using the Forums (including the P.M. system) for sending unsolicited commercial advertising.
The below-quoted "Private Message" isn't relevant to any discussion I'm currently involved in. It's clearly only intended to garner "hits" at the sender's website, presumably for the purpose of increasing traffic and attract revenue-producing advertising.
The sender has only publicly posted here ten times since joining two years ago, and the more recent posts are promotional of his/her website.
The rules certainly permit us to post links to our Blogs in our signatures. They also permit business owning members to discuss their business within the context of a thread subject, and to communicate with members that express an interest in their business(es).
BUT:
Using the Private Message system for the sole purpose of randomly soliciting "visitors" should, in my opinion, fall within the Prohibition against Commercial Advertising.`
Not to mention any prohibition against "Spam" in the Forums.
Here's the "Private Message", as received (please note the "subject"):

I got this spam from them as well. They are a commercial venture promoting their site. I added them to my block list so they can't spam me anymore! They should be banned from the forums IMO.

It does appear the majority of this member's posts so far have been oriented toward publicizing their website. Obviously, this is not the way to go about it. I would contact an appropriate MOD or ADMIN, but this thread should have the same effect.
In any case, thanks for the heads up. Also, now on my block list.

Calling them spammers is a bit harsh. If they had contacted every member by PM you might have a point but they have not. If they are proud of their website and work they have put in and want others to enjoy it too I am not willing to call them spammers even if some of their motive was generating hits. Heck I want folks to look at my pics link and I get a lot of pleasure in the nearly 500,000 views it has generated.

They sent you a "Private Message" identical to the one they sent me.
I think that cinches it- Spammers send identical messages to everyone on their Prospective Patsy Lists.

Private messages should not be posted in the forum without the permission of both parties.
As a general rule, we do not get involved in private messages; we have no access to them. If you want to complain about a private message, you can contact a moderator. We do take note and if we see a pattern of abuse, administration will become involved.
For the situation of the thread, I will send a private message to the sender.
