I think they may have developed a ritual that makes it too much trouble. I did that, dealing with remote storage, prepping the RV each time it went into storage as if it would be there a long time, and the wife would move a third of her kitchen into the RV and shop for half a week's meals.

The work would be enough that if I wanted to go camping by myself, I would throw the tent, stove, lantern and a well stocked cooler into the back of my truck, and just go camping. It was less work than RVing the way we were doing it, stocking and furnishing a house to take with us.

It is worth the work to prepare the RV as our mobile hotel for an extended trip, but that is a different thing from camping.

One of the main reasons we RV is so the fur kids can come along. It is also nice being "home" away from home.

I actually first got into camping for the "love" of a dog. I hated going on vacation and leaving her. Many years later, and that dog has long since passed on to rainbow bridge, I am still an avid camper. I can thank that little dog for even more than just wonderful companionship, she introduced me to a life long hobby.

RVing isn't for everyone and I'd NEVER be critical of someone just because they chose NOT to go RVing. People are all different and for that I'm thankful.

Glad to hear it!

The fewer people go camping means more room in the woods for me. Life is too short to sit in judgement of other people.

One of the couples in our group has a 32' Fifth-wheel, but have decided not to go since the cabins are all booked. They say camping is "just too much trouble". During the discussion, two other couples joined in saying they had RV's in the past but agreed that getting them packed and ready, towing them to a destination, etc. "wasn't worth it". What is it with these people?

Maybe it's cuz they bought the wrong type of RV. We'd feel that way, too, if we'd made the mistake of buying one of those monsters we see on the road.

A Class B or 23-24 Class C can be parked at many personal residences, kept loaded, and almost ready to go at the drop of a hat. We have a 24 foot Class C in the back yard and just fill the fresh water tank, the refrigerator, and the cupboards. We keep the grey/black water tanks empty, the propane tank full, and the gas tank full. (There's another reason to keep an RV ready to go - but this is not a TEOTWAWKI survivalist forum. )

Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know much, and are all the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom.

Our friends have said that before, too. They store their popup 40 miles from home. Their first time out last summer they arrived with groceries to find mice had set up a hotel, eaten wiring, and they had two flat tires. I dont think they have used it since!

I talked to a semi-aquaintence last year at our local Camping World who was looking to buy a TT because "everybody is doin' it". Like a lot of folks he wanted to save some money on vacations. He had not discussed it with his family. I asked him if he really thought it through. He said "Gotta do what I gotta do to save a buck." I told him that using an RV as an excuse for a cheap vacation may bite him in the ***. You gotta check it and see if you like it first. He said that wasn't a financial option for him. It was either camping or no vacation.

Sadly, I drove by his house the other day, and sure enough there's a FOR SALE sign on the camper. I hear he and his wife are now separated. I recon camping isn't for everyone. Personally, I camp for the relaxation and to get away from all the BS. The DW loves it also. If she didn't, we wouldn't be doing it. You have to actually like the camping lifestyle to reap its rewards. If you are doing it as an excuse to be cheap, I doubt if you will really enjoy it. I say think about it before you do it. It'll leave more room in the parks for those of us who actually 'want' to be there.

It would be interesting to know if they use their RV to go places on their own. Maybe they're just tired of "group outings".
Many years ago, a group of 20 of us guys used to go to Myrtle Beach for a golf trip. 7 days of golf. Nothing was organized but the golf. Everyone was allowed to do whatever they chose during the rest of each day and night.
The annual golf outing finally ended after about 12 years, when we were down to just 8 golfers. For some, it was physically impossible to play for 7 days. For others, it was family obligations or the expense. Others just plain lost interest. For some, I suspect that the trip itself just turned recreation into a "job". Nothing lasts forever.

Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

People (and couples) age different. Some get old in their minds way sooner then their bodies do. When that happens, lot's of things become "too much trouble."

I can understand their position, RV'ing does take effort. The real question is are they replacing it with something else to keep active, or just sitting in the house and taking naps out of boredom.
