hello -
we are thinking about buying an rv, but wanted to rent one first and wanted some suggestions on where to go for several days in the next month or so.
we live near roanoke,va and i think we will be renting an rv from a facility there. i was thinking of renting a big C with 1 or 2 slides.(i had thought of that style because we are looking at super C or a truck conversion and thought that would be a more similar experience than a pusher would be) we will not be bringing a toad with us.
i thought we would go somewhere on the coast of NC or SC. i dont want to make this a trip where we have to cook all the meals - but rather have a place that has dining facilities on-site or within walking distance.
we have koa book, but being total novices, all it seems like all they have pictures of swimming pools and kids playing.
i think we would be looking more at an "RV resort" vs a campground situation -- i think.
would greatly appreciate any input on where we can go that would leave a lasting impression.
tks,
gil

For me part of the fun of cooking is getting a grill going for hamburgers or steaks. Arrange for cooking of some meals on the trip. Hopefully someone who lives in the area can help you with a cg that will allow you to enjoy eating out around the cg. We did the sane thing that you are going to do but we live in South Florida so we took the rented class c to Disney World cg. Do not need another vehicle there.

You're not too far from Hungry Mother State Park in Marion, VA. The campgrounds start opening in March but the restaurant doesn't open for awhile after that. Not sure when.
They have several campgrounds ranging from very basic to full hookup, wifi and laundry. Lots of trails, beach and boat rentals.

I can't think of anything right off hand within walking distance to numerous restaurants. Koa's typically have some sort of food. The Kia in myrtle beach is actually within walking distance to some now that I think about it. Lakewood in myrtle beach has a place that delivers to your site, plus they normally have vendors inside selling. Bq and seafood. I thi k there is a child fil a trailer there too. You can always rent a car there or anywhere for a it $20/day.

Pirateland, Lakewood, Myrtle Beach Travel park, and Ocean Lakes ALL have grills in the campground. Apache has one on the pier. Also pizza can be delivered. Those are the only ones I know of with any type of food services.
However in all honesty. Toy really enjoy all of the perks that come with Rving in the Carolinas. you would need a vehicle to drive around.
You may want to look at renting a car to go and do some really fun things.

I was going to suggest Myrtle Beach or Charleston. They are within a 5-6 hr drive and they sure have lots of places to eat and lots to do.

I would go to Pigeon Forge TN. They have a GREAT trolley system there to get around.

For Charleston -- James Island County Park might be a possibility. There are no restaurants nearby, but they have a shuttle bus to/from the historic district. Which has LOTS of restaurants. But I believe there's a $10 per person round-trip fare. It wouldn't be much more expensive to rent a car.
As stated, most of the campgrounds at Myrtle Beach have on-site food, at least during the peak season. I wouldn't assume w/o checking that they'll all have food on-site in the next month or so. But I think you probably wouldn't have much of a problem finding restaurants that deliver (and not just pizza).
Truthfully in your shoes and only going a few hours' drive? Assuming there's someone else coming along with a driver's license, I'd have them follow along in a car. Or plan on renting one when you get to your destination. There are good reasons most RV'ers pull a car.
