Some DP that have a middle door can and do have a slide between the passenger seat and the side door. It's just that the slide can't be as large. I know that you order a 2012 Newell with a mid-ship door and it has four slides.
Having the door in the front gives the best use of space inside. I bet if manufactures offered mid-ship doors again it probably would sell well.

There are a number of motor homes with two slides on the passenger side and a door in the middle. On my floor plan, for example, if the slide was moved forward, there would be enough room at the rear of it to put the door. Why? Then my door would actually open up on the patio, it would be covered by the big awning, I could carry groceries and outdoor cooking directly into the kitchen, and my DW would have a view not obstructed by the screen. But for some reason, MH manufacturers think most RVers want the front door.

My wife and I have owned 4 class A's over the years. The last two had additional drivers doors which were nice for access while fueling up and dumping.
Our current DP has a front access door which we prefer. As said in other posts, the furniture options are greater, the window views were better, more cupboard space, and more storage underneath. Also, there is less chance of a late night tumble after a couple of "wobbly pop's".
While travelling, our DP has an air operated slide the covers the step and leaves a flat floor for the passenger.

It's not just wall space, it's usable FLOOR space.

Some like front door and some like middle door. Our last motor home had mid door, our current one front door. As far as my thinking it is six of one and half a dozen of the other.

Frame configuration on DP's necessitate front doors. Mid doors also interfere with storage space on raised rail chassis.

We prefer the door be up front for some of the reasons other posters have mentioned. Also, with the door up front, we can place a picnic table under the awning without blocking the entrance to the MH. In my opinion, the models with 2 slides on the curb side virtually make having a patio awning useless.

There have been entry doors in slide rooms? I have never seen that and would love to see a pic.
