Hi again,
My shower drain is having issues..lol. I noticed it's backing up, and after reading someone post about backups being caused by a full tank, I made sure to empty the tank before I showered. But...no luck. The drain is still not draining properly and it takes forever to go down, leaving me with a soapy mess that I have rinse, and rerinse.
I looked down the drain it is looks all white and gunky (I know, gross!). Is there something I can use to clean it? I think liquid plummer is probably out of the question because of the harsh chemicals, so what are some other options?
Thanks.

Zipit drain cleaner tool......most any hardware store sells them.
Then after pulling out the hair/gunk with zipit tool dump very hot water down drain.
You can use drain cleaners.....just like in your home. BUT you will want to flush/rinse/drain lines & tank ASAP after using them. The drain cleaners will NOT hurt your plumbing lines or waste tank BUT could cause deterioration of drain valve seals. As long as you fill/flush/dilute no problem.
OR if you have easy access to shower 'p' trap you could remove it and clean it out. Clogged 'P' traps are typically the reason for slow draining.

I might be wrong but isn't draino and all these chemicals claim their product is ok for septic tanks and plastic drains. read the label, if it is true, Then I would use it to clean out the gunk. on another edit not, I just went into the bath room and looked at my bottle of draino, it says "safe on metal and plastic pipe. call the drain experts, 1-800-558-5252". hope this helps

On top of above suggestions you may want to switch to a soap that has less grease in its make up. We found the liquid body washes do not do that plus feel very refreshing. We used to use popular bar soaps & they commonly did this so we found what we feel is a better alternative. And as stated above Hot water works quite well if the hair isn't the culprit JMHO jb

Holding tanks are not septic tanks. RV holding tanks have seals we need to wary of. I know I was using a lot bleach in the 'gray' tank and it did eat the seals around the blade. RV repair guy enjoyed pointing that fact out to me! He said using non-rv chemicals in the tanks and down the toilet is the number one reason seals fail.

My shower drain cover unscrews and then it is pretty easy to clean out the drain with a bent coat hanger. Double check yours and I'm sure you will see that it either has a screw in the middle to remove the screen, or the whole top can be unscrewed and separated from the bottom portion. If your whole top portion unscrews, be sure to put plumber's putty under the cover when you re-install it.

We have used a regular plunger for years on several different styles of drain. Since they are not vented with an overflow the plunger works great. No chemicals and it cost a couple dollars and lasts for years. You don not take anything apart or poke anything in a drain.

You should have an access door to get at the P-trap under the shower. I would recommend taking the drain and trap out and cleaning them rather than using chemicals.

A good drain cleaner is equal parts of baking soda and white vinegar, followed by lots of very hot water.
Put the baking soda in the drain, follow with the vinegar, use your fingers to make sure all of the baking soda gets down in the drain as you are pouring in the vinegar and then add the hot water. The foaming action of the soda/vinegar clean a lot of gunk out and the hot water will take care of more.
Repeat as often as needed, Cleans the drains, doesn't hurt the pipes and is cheap. If you have a lot of hair in the drain, I would use the zip-it and then follow with the above mixture.
Good luck
