Some regulations that affect RV travel:

The most noticable is city after county after in some cases states prohibiting overnight parking of an RV anywhere other than a licensed RV park. These ill conceived laws do not really cost us much (if anything) but do cause us to have to drive, often on narrow roads, when tired, to find parking, and this ... Can be VERY expensive.

True story: I once checked out a truck stop for overnight.. Did not like the lot so tried a RV park a few blocks distant I could actually see from the drive of the Truck Stop.. now, we had our evening and morning meals in the RV park, from stocks we had in the RV, perhaps 10 dollars worth of food likely less, Plus 20.00 for parking oh, I had 50 amps all night so no generator use.

I'd have spent at least 30 just eating in the restaurant at the truck stop. Plus generator fuel. The RV park was less expensive.

Another set of laws that may affect some of us are these new "Distracted Driving Laws" again they tend to be poorly written. But the wording on many of them would prohibit FRS, CB and Ham Radio as well as texting (Driver's texting should be a hanging offense as far as I'm concerned) and cell phone use. Some even prohibit HANDS FREE cell use.

With Ham Radio operators I don't know how the states can justify such regulation being as we are federally licensed and are considered part of Homeland Security... But Try to prevent us from using a radio they do.

(Usually they do re-word the law before it gets signed.. I'd love to see the look on the politician's face when the state appeals to it's amateur radio operators in a time of emergency and the EC's (Emergence Cordornators) respond "Sorry, can't help you, it's against YOUR law". On the other hand I'd hate to see the situation where that could happen).

Another area of regulation is fuel taxes.. I recall some years ago seeing a sticker advising how much per gallon I was paying in taxes.... I recall buying gasoline for roughly 1/4 that amount when I was younger.

And yet another area is emmissions/economy regulations.. You do know why GM no longer builds the 8.1L Vortec VH (A very good engine if mine is any guide) for RV use right.. Because Uncle Sam regulated it out of existence.

The moral of this post: Keep a close eye on your legislature, and when there is some scandal in the news, Some nice juicy "Who's sleeping in who's bed" or "Who's check was made of the finest rubber" keep even a closer eye on 'em becuse that's when they really push through legislation that belongs in the black tank.

I'd like to hear more on the subject. I know they are trying to sneak about a .25 gal tax or EPA Tier Three on us and that RV and all Mortgage Deductions for second home are on the table, or are they?

There is legislation on the table to eliminate the ability to claim the interest on RV's. Currently this works much like second homes and boats. They are talking of doing away with it.

Well Sir,
They've talked about that a few zillion times before. But, the issue is, it will elmininate the deduction for ALL OF THEM TOO! That is, if they have M/Hs, Yachts, and the like, and they're writing off the interest, I and a few zillion other folks in the U.S. don't think they'll elminate their ability to deduct it.

There are many sin taxes in the works or already on the table. Regulations concerning diesel has already (over the last 10 years) spiked Diesel fuel cost well above gas. For those that have heavy rigs and who tow big 5ers there is a little of it. In addition states are in need of cash so raising licence fees are a way to get some of it. The costs of traveling over bridges and turnpikes are increasing year after year. Regulation of gas mileage has already claimed the GM 8.1 how long can Ford hang in with the V-10. The politicians can certainly take away 2nd home mortgage deductions and don't worry about them they can also give themselves a raise or just make it apply to everyone but them self. Can't be done you say well guess whose not worried about Obamacare. And guess who will never go to jail for insider trading. Guess who is not worried about Social Security. Think about it there is alot on the books now and I bet more to come. We are not in a panic about it and that is just where they want us.

My thoughts exactly and I hope you are correct. One other thing I did hear was mandating manufacturers to better EPA and mileage guidelines?? Anyone??
