Does anyone out there know where to get a mounting for a spare tire under the tongue of the trailer. I don't want to mount mine to the rear bumper. I have seen some from a distance but not up close. How do you get the spare up and down?

You can get a mounting for under the tongue, at any salvage yard.
(Fancy term for 'Junk Yard)
That is the mounting most often used these days under Pick-up trucks.

I'm considering moving mine under the tongue, I measured and it wouldn't hang lower than my stabilizers or tongue jack.

I've seen one such that had the hole in the pin enlarged and a small
padlock installed to prevent theft or loss of tire.

Jayco 29 LGT jayfeather, mounted under the a frame tongue, behind the bottles. No pics as the rig is in storage. No clearance issues, but then again I dont offraod with a 30 foot trailer.

Hinged to drop down, with a pin/bracket to hold up. Not a chance the pin could get knocked out on this one.

Our Jayco JayFeather 29Y is mounted the same way. It's simple, and it works.

If you do mount it under the tongue of the trailer you need some type of cover, as your tow vehicle will splash everything from the back wheels during inclement5 weather.

Why? Does the dirty water somehow hurt the spare more than the other eight tires on the ground?

I've got about 4000 miles towing on my TT with the tire mounted under the tongue. I just lowered it last week while tinkering around with my hitch. Suprisingly the tire was very clean. And really how hard would it be to just lower it down when you wash the TT and give it a rinse?

Thanks for the input. I decided to mount the tire under the tongue rather than carry it loose in my truk bed. Either way it is weight on the truck. Just don't like having it in the way in the bed.

I do believe that most TH have the spares mounted inbetween the frame rails, behind the tongue section.
I know the DF series are mounted this way, using the same winch system as most PU have.
