Has anyone been to Bayou Segnette State Park just outside of New Orleans? We're in South Texas now and thinking of detouring to the East on the way home. Is it a worthwhile stop or is there a different park you'd recommend for the N.O. area. TIA

Bayou Segnette is a very nice park. Big sites; full hookups. TV reception on antenna is excellent. Just down and across river bridge from French Quarter, or you can ride Algiers ferry for free to French Quarter landing and other tour opportunities. Costs a few bucks to park car when you take ferry.

I was at Fairview-Riverside SP very nearby a couple years ago. Nice park, especially the Riverside loop. The bad news is that loop is prone to flooding. You want the other one if there's a lot of rain on the way.
(Early morning hurry up move to the other loop through 6 inches of rising water isn't cool.)

We were there a year or so ago during the summer. They were quite busy. Need to make reservations.
As stated earlier post large sites, quiet, close to New Orleans. Close to shopping.
There were many birds and other wild animals in park.

We stay at Bayou Segnette when in that area. Not only are the sites nice and the TV reception in good, they have WIFI that you can pick up any place in the park.
I think it is the best place to stay for that area.

We spent about a week at the park this past summer. The Army Corp of Engineers was doing a lot of construction on that massive levee project so entrance into the park was a bit of a mess. I'm not sure if they have completed that portion but the access road into the park was torn up pretty good. Once in the park, no problems. The sites are nice and spacious and the amenities are very good. The only hassle is no dump hookup at each site, but it has a well thought out central dump station. If you are planning to spend most of your time in New Orleans and you don't want to drive in and out of the city every day, the French Quarter RV Resort is a nice alternative since it is right on the edge of the French Quarter.

I would give it a 7/10 to 8/10. It is so "swampy" feeling in south Louisiana! Not the state park's fault.
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

It was very nice and quiet when we stayed there a couple of years ago, they do accept the Golden Age Passport, or they did then.

Beautiful park. They had free washers and dryers when we were there a couple of years ago.
