I fell New Yrs Eve and fractured my right Femur in 3 places and had surgery New Yrs Day. Came home from the rehab hospital yesterday and am still on non wt. bearing status. I am wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if so, how long did it take you to recover so where you could travel again. I am looking at a few more wks of OP Physical Therapy I am sure. We had recently bought a house in Cocoa Beach and really looking forward to getting down there and start some remodeling. Keep me in your prayers for continued success.

You can figure four to six months if you follow the Doctors orders. And are in otherwise good physical condition.

Sorry for your medical problems. Hopefully you will be out there camping in a very short time. Good luck

Follow their directions.....don't let up on the PT....and they can probably tell you better (knowing exactly how bad it was) estimate on your recovery and when you will be able to do certain things.

We'll be thinking of you, an hope that things speed along for you.

Your age will make a difference. If old, longer, if young, not quite so long. (Usually)

In my younger days, working in the ER of a local hospital, I was able to watch the "repair" of a broken femur. WOW. Young guy on a snow tube hit a tree. It was an amazing operation. Did they put a rod thru the center of the bone??

This young man was laid on his side. The knee was pulled to align the bone. A long metal rod was hammered (really was, with a metal mallet) into the center of the bone from the hip, up thru the break. Was my first witness to such a major operation.

Wish you a speedy recovery. Very major break.

Maybe you can get someone to drive you to Cocoa and do your outpatient there.

Hope things heal nicely....just take one day at a time. Ask the docs what the recovery time should be. You could do as one poster said, go to your new home, hire a handyman and sit back and relax and heal...

Wow. thanks for that visual. I think I'm going to be sick now.

OP, you just broke the strongest bone in your body. It takes a long time for it to heal properly and you're going to have to be patient with the process. My youngest son(16) fractured his femur last year and even at his young age, it was months of recovery. I imagine for an adult it might take a long time to fully recover. Hope you can get down to Cocoa Beach soon.I'm sure they have PT down there too. A change of scenery might do you good.
