Difficult decisions all around for you. We sold our 29' 5W for a 31' Class C. I also didn't want to tow. I have no trouble driving our class C. We sold privately and bought privately. Both are 2004's. I'm darn glad we sold the 5W. Class C is much easier. I think the motor home is a step down on some issues but still I like it. It has a sofa, bed over cab, shower used for storage, queen bed in back, slide in living room area. Just right.

This was written on January 15th in response to a similar question.
Although we are not both retired, we sold our 34 foot Jayco Designer 5th wheel and purchased a Winnebago 29 foot Minnie Winnie and are very pleased. Significant other feels much more comfortable in the C and I must say that it is neat to be able to run the generator while traveling, make popcorn, coffee, bathroom break without stopping. While the pups did not travel with us in the fifth wheel (two of them were not yet with us), I know they are comfortable in the C.
My trip from Arizona to home in Texas, while long was enjoyable. I was amazed at how easy it drove.
This forum was tremendously helpful in gathering information that resulted in our decision. Good luck. Write me as needed.

As is logical, once you are on the open road, size matters only with cross winds and other such influences. But, the smaller the motor home, the easier they are to maneuver around on side roads, urban areas, parks and camp grounds.
The original poster is used to 3 slides and a fireplace, so how small of a motor home can she get before she says "It's just too small to work for us dear". We own the 24 foot B+ in my signature, finding it to be plenty comfortable for us (with some exception to getting in and out from bed), but going that small is not for most people who are used to much bigger accomodations.
