Some areas of Big Meadows and Loft Mountain in Shenandoah National Park - VA
Many sites in Shenandoah River State Park - VA
Bayside sites in Assateague National Seashore - MD
Sites in Point Lookout State Park (the ones with full hookups or the ones right on the water) - MD
Many sites in Rocky Gap State Park - MD
Many sites at Mirror Lake State Park - WI
Sites at Teddy Roosevelt National Park - ND
A few sites at Hunting Island State Park - SC

Those are the ones I remember as being really large - larger than turning my camper sideways.

Actually I've found very FEW "campgrounds" that don't have sites quite a bit LARGER than you describe. My fist GUESS would be that you're confusing campgrounds with RV parks. Stop by just about any government operated campground and you'll see what I mean.

We have stayed at many, many state campgrounds and yes, you are right about the site sizes. I guess I should have clarified just RV parks!

The biggest sites we've seen, and maybe the fanciest, were at Crown Villa RV Resort in Bend, OR.

Beat me to it. I was just getting ready to get up to look in my Trailer Life Directory for Crown Villa. Stayed there in Bend several years ago but couldn't remember the name of the CG. You're right on the size, think I could set my 1,600 sq ft house on the sites.

Most sites at Maumee Bay State Park (just east of Toledo, on Lake Erie) are 50' wide by 60-70 long. Some sites next to walkways to showers are wider than that and have pine trees along the walk for a bit more privacy and shade. The sites themselves don't have large trees, but there are some along the back.

Skidaway Island State Park, GA. Not all the sites are this big, but most of the full hookup sites are large.

There is enough space in the above site for half a dozen KOA sized sites.
