I just replaced my hot energy hog 32" Plasma ($150+/year) with a 40" LED ($15/year). The Plasma has worked well but it was only a monitor and the screen would be 120+ degrees. I went with the LED because it was only 1 1/2" thick so I was able to mount it on the face of the cabnet. The LED ends up being the temp of the area around the windshield and only uses 1 watt when turned off.
Here is a recent post with pictures of the install.
This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

If you are at all worried about weight or power then LED is the way to go, hands down. We just switched our TV to LED for power savings (we dry-camp quite alot). HUGE difference...we're saving ~100 Amp hours over a 10 hour period. The new TV is significantly lighter too.

I wonder how the new OLED TV's will be for RV applications. They are extremely thin,
just wonder about fragility. In a couple of years they should be cheap enough to consider.

OLED's are still too high in price.
Since Fulltiming, we've had CRT (factory installed), plasma (factory installed), LCD (ditto) and LED-LCD (we replaced LCD's a 26" & 3D-46"). The LED is by far the clearer picture, with DirecTV. Now that we switched the DVR's to HD, they are even better.
Best Buy or even Wal-mart, you can see side-by-side comparisons.

All comments made about the Plasma so far, are old and outdated. The new generation Plasma is nowhere near the power hog or heat generator of the older models. We just bought a large Plasma for the S & B after much research. It is far and away the best choice for TV aficionados. Also, it is NOT as fragile as some make it out to be.

I think I might qualify as a TV aficionado and I agree plasma is the best choice on almost all levels to compare. Depressed pricing just makes it even sweeter. However I still wouldn't put one in a RV if only based on weight and consumption.

LED and LCD are the same just back or side lighted. When comparing against Plasma same $$ for $$ tv the plasma will win hands down every time for picture quality. If you like the look of soap operas and cartoons led or LCD is for you. If you like a natural picture plasma is for you.

Yup, led. Size, power consumption and heat output. Hands down a very good choice.

My LED Vizio is not as deep or heavy as its counterpart LCD 26" TV.
But, LED unit has the speakers on the front of the TV. Since the TV is thinner, the speakers get smaller and sometimes exit the bottom or backside of the TV frame.
The smaller speaker affects sound quality, no surprise there.
The exit area may affect how you mount the TV. On a wall, no problem. In a box, the sound may disappear.
