Zinni optical is OK if you can settle for acrilic lenses. I have several pairs and I'm far sighted and can see right past the scratches.

DW is legally blind and needs high-index (clearer) lenses and found them at eyebuydirect.com She's a little disappointed 'cause they didn't carry the ultra thin lenses and with her prescription they're pretty thick.

I decided I wanted only one pair of sunglasses. Polycarbonate & polarized with a curved lense were my only requirements. I couldn't find them online. So I shopped my DW's opthemologist, Walmart, EyeWorld, & Sears. They were comparable in cost at around $400.

If you want anything above acrilic lenses you'll have to go somewhere like those places. If you want or need the following give up on finding cheap glasses. I gave up.

Polycarbonate lenses (UV protection, scratch resistance, shatterproof, & sometimes anti glare)
high index lenses (high definition ultra clear lenses)
transition lenses (change fron light to dark)
lightweight thin or ultra thin lenses (lighter & reduces the "bug eye" effect of thick prescriptions)

I've wasted a lot of money on cheap glasses that just don't do the job.
I go to my county dentist in Ohio. The same guy who treats welfare patients. Prices are set by the county so he's reasonable.

I'm as frugal as anyone I know. Some things you can cut corners on. Some it just isn't worth it.

I don't see where anyone said "don't" go to Los Algodones for glasses....I do see where several folks chimed in with what works for them, but offered nothing regarding the OP's question about "who" to use in Los Algodones.
Thousands of people seem to to be satisfied with their experience in Los Algodones, for glasses, dental work, legal drugs, and liquor....and let's not forget the shrimp tacos.

I got Wall Mart glasses and so far have been satisfied. I also found that there is two type of Wall Mart stores, Company stores and contracted stores. Best way is to ask questions. The company store is the way to go as they will be able to help you all across USA. Where if you use a contractor you mite have a problem. Hope this helps.

The wife and I just picked up our glasses this morning from Best Optical in Algodones. 2 pair of womens progressive with frames and 2 pair of mens progressive with frames sunglasses. $210.00 total.
We had our own prescription. If we had to have an eye exam that would have been $10 each extra.
Quality is very good and accurate fill. We've used the same Optical place for the last 5 or 6 years with confidence.

"$210.00 total".....for 4 pairs of glasses with progressive lenses and frames ?

Your experience does not mirror my experience at Algodones Optical, where in '09 we spent $450 for 2 pairs with progressive and good quality frames, with 2 exams. Time for us to check out Best Optical !

I just picked up 2 pair today from Algodones Optical - progressive, regular and sun- in their most expensive Titanium frames for $280 total. Couldn't be happier. I think you are safe in just about any optometrist down there.
Good luck
