A generator running 20 feet from my rig set off my damn LP detector, when we were boondocking a couple years ago and had all the windows open.

1. Rubber hoses are used in all RV's INSIDE, especially in a LP appliances in a slide out.
2. DO NOT use a handheld BUTANE/LP type lighter to test your LP detector. THAT will ruin the sensor. Most LP detectors instructions state this.
3. I fail to see how a freshly filled LP cylinder would cause an INTERAL hose to somehow leak.
4. I fail to see how a freshly filled LP cylinder would cause the connecting rubber hose at the tank to leak.
5. LP cylinders are mounted in a storage OUTSIDE and are usually sealed very well, but ALL that I have seen have open air bottoms. LP is heavier than air and any leak at the cylinder compartment would float straight down and then get diluted by outside air. It would still smell but not be flammable. Or migrate inside, at least not in sufficient quantity to harm occupants.
6. I have seen quite a few RV'ers store extra DOT tanks inside the storage compartments which is a big NO NO. IF it leaks, then there is no where for the LP to go but inside.
7. Last, Check your pigtail hoses at the tank and IF the have a copper looking crimp ring band securing the pigtail ends, replace them with the newest type that have regular Hi pressure swedge type connections. The crimp ring band type will leak after a few years. Doug

Seems very odd the alarm never went off.At times our cats dander gets ours to beep.I check ours about every 6 months or so with a propane torch, not lit of course.Never trust the test button.Same with the smoke detectors, just use a smoking match.

Like I said, I'll try to get more info over the next day or two. The little I heard so far was the leak happened in a hose and after changing over (presumably from an empty) to a full tank, and involved a leaking hose.

How do you think LP gas gets into a fridge or stove that's in a slide out if not for a rubber or other type flexible hose. Did the 5er have these appliances in a slide out ?

The LPD supply on a slide-out with a fridge is flexible, but only on the outside of the slide. All supply pipes within the cabin area SHOULD be hard-piped.

This story does point out the need to periodicly check our installed detectors. The next time I am in my fiver I am going to realistically check all of the detectors, not just press the "button". Thanks for letting us know.

If it happened after a change over as described, it is outside and should have vented outside as well. If it was okay prior to the change over it appears to be associated with the valve not the tubing.

There are no rubber hoses inside my coach. Even the stove and fridge in the slide out transitions from rubber hose to hard pipe once it goes inside the slide.
I don't think I have ever seen LP flex hose "inside" the coach, not even "inside" the belly.
